@melissa cason yes madam indeed money is now a very needed necessity, even tho I'm young I wanted to train myself to live a sustainable life, I took up electrical engineering so I can just run on renewable energy, I would probably live not to far and not to near the cityscapes so that whenever I want I could still access the convinience of commercial goods, but also I want to experience independence far from capitalists. The serendipity and calmness nature could give is what we needed the most in times like this. I hope you are doing great right now madam especially this time of pandemic. And also it is very wise to save money first before living a life like this so you got yourself covered, if bad things happen. 😄
This is literally my dream. It must be so amazing to have a partner that not only understands, but helps and creates a beautiful life with you. Simply amazing.
@@emiliogomez2623 honestly you must be sad to think that lmao. This is a beautiful way of living. Not just building. Everything. Especially in Canada. A result of the socialistic mindset. Without the government to lord over every aspect of life, most people would be out of a job. Then what?
Right and I feel if they really wanted to teach you like skills why not teach building as a fundamental basic but like you Said they’ve mystified it for profit and are doing the same with fruits and veggies this is why they are so taken with seedless fruits because they can’t be reproduced
It definitely appears to me that several folks out there discovering alternate homes have a high degree of intelligence, common sense and general knowledge of the world. Congratulations to the couple were making a fine contribution to this earth.

Peter, so well spoken! Such truth reverberates in your words. I especially relate to when you say "Allowing them to grow spiritually as well as academically instead of becoming part of the corporate conveyor belt for the benefit of the greedy"...this foreshadows a new earth that is blossoming, a new earth where the anachronistic "body-mind" construct of an independent "me" is dissolved and the oneness of all existence is revealed, embraced and loved....Bless you....

I wish I knew and understood this kind of living when I was younger so that I could have planned my goals accordingly. Being bound to city life is really indeed a prison like life.
I love the idea of sustainable living. This becomes more convincing when I see live examples like this one. You might be surprised but most of the older houses in Kazakhstan were built using clay, straw and manure. They may last forever but require yearly maintenance. Nevertheless this is a realistic way to reach sense of independence. Thank you for sharing.
Honestly, your home isn't "lasting forever" if you are maintaining it every year. Hell...a home made of 2×4's will last forever too, with yearly maintenance
"Basically, anything we need can be brought to us"- I think this is a key component that is often not spoken about, and I am glad they mention it. It is much easier to live off grid and create this situation if you can get deliveries from the city, plugging into the system as you need it. This is not to criticise, but to point out I am glad for the honesty.
I find it funny because it sounds like much of what they buy (groceries) are not produced in a city. Cities are great for distribution but not great at production
Cob houses and off grid living are our way of life here in Africa (I'm from Swaziland). It's great seeing other continents trying them out. Personally, I wish I'd live off grid again but technology has made life a lot easier for us. Beautiful home you guys 💕💕
easier isn't always better, that is the trap the west fell into, now see where we are ;-) less free, and those wanting to be free are shamed and criminalized
@DanielB if you think freedom is to sit lazily in a couch watching tv then you are wrong ;-) freedom is being able to provide for yourself without anyone stealing half your productivity in "taxes" so you can feed and shelter yourself and your family

Carolyn... I can so see you in a sweet woodsy, home base like this. Ask the Universe to reveal your "Hearts Home" location to you. I remember driving down our road some 40 years ago, searching away.... when suddenly I yelled "STOP the car!". Seriously...it was right out of "Miracle on 34th St." LOL. I jumped out of the car and just started running around in this woodland. I just KNEW I was where I was meant to be. Not that there were not some challenges.. but in time each barrier fell away. Many times what SEEMED like a 'problem' ended up being a gift in disguise. You are such an Amazing Soul.. a gift to the world.... AND You are loved more than you can possibly imagine. 😇 NH Faith
I am a single mother of three young boys and I have been doing tons of research around a sustainable lifestyle. I plan on investing in an RV trailer this year to begin my journey. I love seeing how much this could change our lives forever, thank you for sharing Misty and Bryce !
Are you planning on staying put? Only because I’ve watched and saw the effects of RV living on the road on kids. One family has a teenage daughter recently diagnosed with anorexia and always talks about when she can “move away” and a lot of these kids on these videos miss the stability of friends and being close to conventional things, like knowing their own home town, the same people around and the biggest complaint from all the kids was space and privacy. I think sustainable living and this way of life can be rewarding. But beware of bringing children and minors with no say into this. There could be a lot of resentment and Issues arise later on in life.
Any update? Been living off grid here in Northern Japan for 14 years now, and I am from Sweden. One thing I would recommend is pile as much hard cash as you can while you're in transition to something like this. Be prepared for the worse and savor the beatiful life as much as you can. It is totally worth it. Goodluck!
I am certain that you have put a lot of research and thought into your journey. An environment that includes nature produces creativity in children and provides mental and emotional stability. I lived in the Catskill mountains in a small cabin for three months and it was a wonderful experience. As a child, my siblings and I were not allowed to interact with children who were raised with different values. We ended up naive to the atrocities of life, but we had pure hearts. One of my siblings and our mom have lived in a rural town for 40 plus years and they are happy and content. Never have I resented my childhood. In fact, my heart is still pure and full of love. I have embraced a sustainable way of life along with zero waste. Planning and flexibility are required for a natural way of life. Don't panic from your challenges . Be willing to learn. Budget your finances. Don't involve too many people in your lifestyle and you and the boys will do very well.
It’s crazy because back in my home country in Guatemala there are literally villages full of these homes where people live in, made entirely of mud clay with hay. Only thing is they don’t have any type of electric sources.
This is fantastic you have done an amazing job and a great thing for your children. I built a 12 by 12 mud-brick shack in the 80s on my own, sorry with the help of my 5 yr old daughter and kids of the owners of the 600-acre property. All up it cost me around $100. Took me a few months that's waiting for all the bricks to dry. I understand about the hassles with permits etc I almost got dragged into a battle over doing this as a single mother it was frowned upon no idea why, my daughter learnt so much and completely enjoyed living communally, there were 3 houses spread apart. Windows doors cupboards were all donated from neighbours. This is becoming more enticing esp now during covid, its quite obvious now they are doing this for control so I'm selling up and heading off grid again Good luck for the future, a beautiful house and a beautiful family.
This is such a beautiful house. I applaud Bryce and Misty on talking and walking the walk of harmony with the earth. How fortunate their children are to be growing up in this environment.
Most of what news pushes is propaganda and lies designed to put people into fear so they will comply with their fake "solution". Better to learn about off grid living and get away from that illusion, they never show the amount of recoveries or good news, so much of it is fake and agenda based
Government is conflicted because families like these don’t contribute to society since they’re self sufficient and therefore don’t have to work as much as others - yet they still have access to government funded infrastructure, welfare checks, etc. Government can’t sustain itself if too many people decide to live off the grid - they need people to work as much as possible and pay as much tax as possible, because otherwise government can’t afford prestige projects and have to file for bankruptcy.
@@Thomas-lk5cu government is a leech, it takes from all, and only provides enough for those who need it to buy their votes, and gives the rest to their friends.
@@Thomas-lk5cu You're correct, but it's important that we still try and push back. The Canadian government is terrible when it comes to closing tax loopholes and going after the super rich. People could be allowed to live like this, but it won't happen without a fight. As more and more people push back against the astronomically high cost of housing across Canada, the more the government feels the need to crush people who could be seen as setting an example.

That's not it, Misty had it right, we need to change the codes to not apply to homes not intended for resale. The codes have a good intention, to not allow cheap bastards to build cruddy houses and sell them to unsuspecting people, particularly houses that are bloody dangerous and risk collapsing. So fix that problem, come up with a methodology that allows you to build your house where you are guaranteed to be the only risk taker and if you ever do sell it you retroactively have to take on all the code responsibility. Bryce and Misty's house is perfectly safe because they did their research and intend it for themselves and their children so we just need a system that takes that into account. In short, stop designing regulations targeted at the lowest common denominator.

There are actually teeny off-grid washers that look like cranked buckets for about $60! They're on Amazon, and if you aren't an Amazon person you can look at their website
If everyone lived like this using wood to cook, we wouldn't have any trees left. The problem of food shortages in many African countries is that they cut down all the trees and now the soil can't hold water.

I cannot help but think of the children and what great things they will be able to teach others as they grow up. I think they are lucky. Some day they may not think that but when they are older, I’m certain they will appreciate all that you have done for them. I have three kids and they have no idea on how to survive off the land.
Yeah just hope the kids want to do what their parents want, don't have independent thought and want to become anything else like a doctor. Because their time and effort will be on living there, not education and working.
Besides the amazing things they learn - or don't - I mostly wonder about their social skills and their possibility to connect with kids of their own age. Humans are social animals. Having the possibility to connect with others is very much part of 'real life' in my opinion.

I was curious how many people would say something negative and I was so pleasantly surprised! I am currently living in my car, mostly by choice, and I have come considered upgrading to a van so that I can do this more comfortably and I do love the idea of living off the grid this way!
I also lived in my car through college (I chose a private school so it was expensive and I didn’t want any debt) and two years after so I had a down payment for the house we live in now. My mom was homeless (she wanted to be and had a cool “home” with a water filtration system) and my grandparents and great grandparents were all off grid ranchers (just because that’s how things used to be and they never changed). As for the washing machine convenience: There is the possibility to hook a bicycle to certain washing machine types and cycle for an hour or so. To get the water out, you could put it through a waltz which ordinarily flattens dough to make noodles. tried and tested ;).
I lived on a permaculture farm for 6 months, studying these building techniques as well as the organic farming and lifestyle that comes with it. We had a bike powered drying machine and no one used it! Hand wash and hang to dry. The idea works and is great, but with so much else to do during the day, it was just easier to hang dry. My grandmother had three large fire proof pots. on laundry day, three small fires were started in the front yard, near the water pump. The pots were filled and put to boil Clothes went into the first pot with boiling water, which, when it cooled was just right to add home made lye soap and a scrub board. Next, after being wrung out, the clothes went into the next two pots until rinsed, then the whole lot was hung to dry.

Hi Tamara, how is life???

I miss my old life and am trying to convince my husband to live off grid now. I’ve been researching a lot and it may be something within the next ten years.
@@vchafab Do You please have any suggestions for this type of living? I am all ears!!
@@krismitchell6533 well you definitely want to get a gym membership so you have a place to shower. I work in a gym so it was a pretty easy transition. I also do gig work like instacart and Doordash so it keeps me busy on my days off.
I have a Nissan Altima and I sleep in my front passenger seat. I actually bought a foam pad and cut it to fit to make it more comfortable and then put a black sheet over it so it blends with the black interior of my car. At night I just recline my seat and voila!
Yes I agree great way to find true peace and happiness just do some research first , learn from the mistakes of others . There's a few great videos of people in van on bikes all sorts of of grid options and it is a pleasure to see people achieving that freedom.
Never to late to start!
They make this life look attainable (unlike a lot of the other homes you’ve featured). Makes me excited to work more on our family’s transition to being off grid!
Good luck with that, I hope you can accomplish it
Nobody ever shows the people who barely use anything to make this stuff they make it out to be like you got to be rich damn near
@@jodynichols1510 this took them years
@@elizabethrios7759 and?
@@jodynichols1510 You’re mussing the point. They did this out of love- slowly, over many years of work, commitment and personal sacrifice to design and build the life they envisioned. They’re an inspiration to others that this kinf of life is not only possible, it is absolutely achieveable! They’re not rich ~ they made choices, nurtured the earth, and forged relationships with neighbors to obtain used unwanted items to build with. The only materials they purcheased was lumber as needed, and the few items they couldn’t obtain from the earth or other people directly. And of course their initial investment in their land.
It's amazing how peoples quality of life will improve with this movement growing everyday. We're going back to our roots as a responsible and mature species.Hope to one day have my own permaculture / sustainable home. Thanks for this video!
It's so exciting to see pioneers like these in my province. I really hope the government becomes more willing to have a conversation with you so that home owners have more options to build the lifestyles they want to live.
Hahaha its the government that are actively trying to stop it 😂
@@asscrackistan You'd be surprised. Yes the beauracracy is a hassle but various municipalities in Ontario have taken steps to listen to people wanting to living similar lifestyles, including launching urban chicken farm pilot projects and allowing for tiny homes as garden houses on established dwellings. It takes people being pro-active to drive the change.
This reminds me of when I was little and used to visit my grandmother in Mexico she lives kinda of like that except houses are made of tree branches and coconut leafs ceiling 😊
I wish I could live like this ,this was how we were meant to live.
Me too

Those kids has the best upbringing. They are learning so much that they will carry with them forever. Lucky children!
Foreal. This should be the education all Americans should get as kids
Bravo, Bravo , Bravo... I'm an inner city dweller, it would be difficult to even attempt what you have done, but congratulations and my hopes that you win your struggle against your municipality...
As for the washing machine convenience: There is the possibility to hook a bicycle to certain washing machine types and cycle for an hour or so. To get the water out, you could put it through a waltz which ordinarily flattens dough to make noodles. tried and tested ;).
brilliant idea!
Totally different climate to Ontario however and would probably be useful in Canadian winters!
That is ingenious my friend
Never heard of a waltz tho but it basically sounds like the wringers they used before dryers were invented
Soooooo is nobody goin to talk about how awesome the interior looks?!! Omg the artwork is amazing! Is that a fountain or sculptures in the wall?! I'm totally doing that!!
This family is amazing!!! Thanks so much for sharing you story. I also can’t believe you build your home with only $1k, that’s incredible!
I absolutely love this couple! How lucky their daughters are to grow up there. Hope they can overcome the challenges their local government is throwing their way.
This is one of the most beautiful homes I've ever seen.
We can make an even better one together if you want, 😊
Thank you for this in-depth, detailed intro on cob, I love how you take the clay from your own property and say, “If you can take your clay and make a tube that holds that form, then you can build a house.” That’s very encouraging.
"we are in this era of information sharing and enlightenment which allows us to produce our own food, etc..."

The lifestyle this family has created is admirabe. Full of love, wisdom, knowledge, effort, self reliance, courage, patience... absolutely incredible! Inspiration!
full of love?! did we watch the same video?! 😧
This was an extraordinarily wonderful and inspiring video to watch. Their home has SO many useful, and BEAUTIFUL (!), features. Both of them are intelligent, knowledgeable, and very well-spoken - a delight to listen to. Yes, it is a LOT of hard work - but, look at what they've accomplished with their land over the years! Wow. I enjoyed every second of that video. Lucky little girls, too, to grow up and to be schooled on their land.
Beautiful home, beautiful family, beautiful souls. An inspiration. Fight hard and keep up the amazing lifestyle
I’ve got 3 children and sometimes it looks like my house is made of mud

I'm 💯 % supportive of this real lifestyle! I'm almost there, have the land, water well and a building to live in 💚
That is so awesome! How do you make money to survive and you have internet?
That’s all I want 😬. Land well blankets pillow skillet heat and a building. I’m going to try and start this dream next year some time.
What a brilliant couple making a sustainable lifestyle for their beautiful family! I believe it's becoming the way of the future, and getting back to our roots. Bravo for bringing your home to light and sharing with us, it's what I call a peaceful pod!😁✌👍
It's a miracle this place hasn't burnt down. I get it's cobb and all but there's alot of fire and flammables in there.
we need more of this, this is how we used to live a forgotten way of life, the government doesn't want us to do this because they would have less control.
And society would crumble if everyone started to live like this...
@@joeols90I do not believe that if all the people that were willing to put in the effort to live like this did so that society would crumble. BUT I'm no longer concerned about society at all. I would love to do something similar to create a more peaceful, balanced life for me & mine.

Change? Yes, absolutely. Crumble no. Remember, this was how we lived before electricity.

I'm impressed at how you have pulled this off in a harsh climate, where you're under snow half the year. I didn't know you could keep livestock in such cold winters.

Do you think ansestors lived without livestock in the 4-season climates? Do you think they survived on grains alone? Who do you think help the people PLOW the land in cold climates for centuries?

This home is so amazing and beautiful. I applaud Bryce and Misty on talking and walking the walk of harmony with the earth. How fortunate their children are to be growing up in this environment.
Not sure if I am the only one on the "envy" train, but I do really feel jealous I haven't been able to reach this level of enlightenment. And, opposite to what normally is thought, these aren't coocoo folks: never thought I was going to hear so well articulated people explaining their lifestyle in such an upfront and clear way. Bryce and Misty, kudos to you both... you're definitely a f@&$%ing inspiration!
Just a suggestion, be mindful of envy. When you celebrate what you cherish, it brings it into your life. Envy is evil. Be grateful for what they have and trust that you are where you are meant to be, and be grateful for what you have. This will bring you closer to happiness and to what you desire 🤍🙏🏼
