Nice video explaining everything but some of those questions I feel are people who don't watch the videos for sure. I know you did this as a members only video but you should let everyone see this. You guys are great and love all your videos!!! keep them coming
You have an awesome little place you have built there & off grid is what you like & it will only be as hard as you let it be, Good tips great video !👍👍
Hi there 😊👋🏻 the video was very informative, thank you. I think I asked about curtains once, but it was not to do with privacy but more to do with the cold coming through the glass. I’m in Australia and it doesn’t even snow where I live but in winter you can feel the cold coming from the windows, and I have curtains. I was always curious about the cold coming through. What drew me to keep coming back to watch your videos was your down to earth personalities. There’s no pretence with you both and you feel relatable. Please don’t ever change!! 😄 Cheers 👍🏻🇦🇺
Hi Jay & Jen, good Q & A you guys have come such a long way since 1st episode. I live in Vic Aust. It's very windy in southern Vic and wind farm projects are approved by the Govt as a more sustainable option for natural energy sources. Some people even make an income from having an approved wind turbine on their property's if its part of the project. (maybe you can tap into a near by project in your area.) The draw back is that if the turbine is close to your house it is noisy, and they are not aesthetically pleasing to look at if they are the large variety like we have down under. They still have to be maintained. 😊
You both are so handy and have built a lovely home, my husband and i would not survive off grid we can't even put a door handle in properly...lol. Love your videos
Loved this video even though I knew most of the answers to all the questions 😅 I 16:49 have been with you guys’s since the very beginning & it so great to see you guy’s thriving!🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
Thanks for another great video. You two make it so enjoyable to watch your videos. And your question and answer videos are just icing on the cake. Thanks so much!
Yup I paid $4800 in 2007 in Midland Michigan we only went 112'. After 120' it would have cost so much every 20' rod that went in. Here in Arizona it would be 50k for 400' so rain water is great. Living off the land you do what needs to be done. Nothing is ever done like living in the city.😂😂 Freedom!!❤❤
Love you two, you're so real and that's a rare thing these days. My only question is - how do you get internet service or cell service being so remote? Thx! Love the Q&A. Looking forward to your next project. 💛
Hi. We have a cabin in the mountains of Norway. The wind seems to blow all the time. A couple of neibours have wind turbines and they make a lot of noise. We decided in the end to up grade our sola system as the quite was something we set a great deal of store by. Love what you're doing though. 😄
I appreciate you telling me that Robert. I'm not a fan of noise either, so that is another big factor to consider. I have a decorative wind mill, the little 6 foot one, that sits here at the cabin and I have to take it down sometimes because it drives me crazy......and ruins the peacefulness of the videos too. Best wishes my friend
Hi guys. I just started following you guys and I'm also a yooper and hoping to buy land in the next month and I was wondering what country you delt with for building permits and did that county give you any problems while building?
Yooper here as well, and was wondering the same thing. Zoning and permits are required in most counties in Michigan and can be a nightmare. I was lucky to purchase a lake lot before land prices have went crazy and planning on building a small house, but the in zoning area tough. I my opinion, you should be able to build what you want, how you want, on your property. Good luck to you.
Really thorough explanations for all the questions. Everything really makes a lot of sense. The cabin staining is going to be a bear but the results will be beautiful. 😍🇨🇦
Great answers to the questions! It sounds like y’all almost know what you’re doing! Lol! You should have had a Bigfoot costume on when you were demonstrating the security camera, that would have been epic! I love your channel!
Oh I am happy someone brought up security , I've got to get me a couple of those if i can find em in Ontario or something similar . Excellent question 's and awesome answers . Love the job Jen has wish I could have done that. ( work from home). LOL Why no curtains . Obviously you dont need em. I love your cabin too, Id want to keep the other home as well better than renting a motel room, you have your own space , shit you could rent it out when your not there as an airbnb to make coin. Love this folks , Well done
I was curious if you felt the skirting helped. I'm glad it's working out. Also, the security camera review was great. We've used Ring, but the quality isn't as good as yours and costs me $130 a year. One question: Can I look back on my phone if I get an alert of some activity or is it just live viewing?
Thanks for the informative video, it was fun to watch and learn. I do have a question. With Jen working from the cabin and you guys doing the video's what do you sue for internet? I live in the country and use Starlink which works AWESOME.
We actually have a good cellular signal at the cabin, so Jen has a wifi hot spot unit she uses. We have considered starlink.....might have to go that way soon
We use our cellular service and can pair our computers to them. Verizon and AT&T. Having service was something we looked for, so we could work remotely at the cabin
Hummm.....you can adjust the video or footage quality on the app. If you meant 5g services then I'm confused as well, because we have weak 5g at the cabin and it still works good for us
UA-cam is just people being entertained by you. You don't have to please anyone but yourselves... Opinions are like certain body parts, everyone has one, but your own us all that matters. Back when we had old vehicles and jobs, we kept an even older spare in the driveway. We are retired now and have two vehicles, and our "spare" is an electric bike we can ride to the grocery store if needed, but not needing two vehicles, we still have a spare unless one of us is out of town visiting or camping.
i live off grids and bought a 400 wat wind turbine off amizon not worth the money its junk was a waist ov 400 dollars when it dose work only puts out 8 amps to the baterys and thats in a high wind
Thank you for the video. Good video. but I know for a fact I bring in Michigan you cannot use any rough form number on your Karen. It’s not legal. to use any rough sawn lumber. I’ll be careful what you say on the Internet about that just letting you know.
Thanks for looking out, appreciate it. I choose not to live in fear my friend. I hope others choose to do the same. Stamped lumber is for those looking to have a mortgage or take out a loan. None of which is welcome or a concern here. Best wishes
@@OffgridwithJayandJen yes, I understand that and I agree with it. I was just saying Rothon lumber is not legal to use in Michigan, so can make you tear your place down. I know I’m dealing with the permits in college right now Building Mike cabin they specifically told me no rough sawn lumber for real not be permitted and they will make you tear down

So true
I soooo agree,,, I have a home in the woods and I don’t have any blinds/curtains!!!! Love it

Great update , I so wish we would have done what you guys are doing there , if I were your age again we would for sure , freedom is priceless

The noise would be very unfortunate for sure.
Thanks for sharing, What an interesting adventure. Trying to find a way to jump in and start my own off grid life.
Minimize expenses and save up some money......start figuring it out. It will take some time
You both are so handy and have built a lovely home, my husband and i would not survive off grid we can't even put a door handle in properly...lol. Love your videos

Lead battery was a good choice at the time!
Plus the cost of lithium batteries is coming down.
Thanks....I think so too. My hope was to just get by until the prices and technology got a bit better.....we are almost there
Thank you for answering both of my questions. You people are super nice.
Always fun to visit with you guys!! ;-) Thank you
I just found you guys on UA-cam recently and I’ve watched about 10 videos so far. Kudos to you, great job! Enjoy

It's a tough situation, can be dealt with, but no easy answer. Sorry my friend
Have you thought about putting Bubble foil around your skirting I did that in my cabin and it helped tremendously
Yes....that is what we did 😊
😂😂 I use to walk and mow my land naked. 😂😂 We had a pond too. Why block out the light with curtains. ❤
Beautiful Cabin for 2 great people!
i love all your videos keep up the great work dave s from ct

Our well was 250 ft deep and cost over $19, 000. That is a gamble. In our case, we had no choice.
Good afternoon! You two are inspiring! We are looking forward to buying our debt free acreage soon!
Best of luck!

👋, loved the video.
I was told a wind turbin overall isn't really worth the price point.
The reason we still don't have one
Hi Jay and Jen! 🙌☺️🙌
Hello hello
You guys are so funny!
😊😊
how much did the cabin cost to build?
Oh boy.....Jen and I are working on that video. We have an older version if you search it in our channel
Do you have any chilsren?
No children
How do you get internet service?
We use our cellular service and can pair our computers to them. Verizon and AT&T. Having service was something we looked for, so we could work remotely at the cabin
Ugh, I have to stain mine also this year.
Not going to be fun, lol
That’s what my space is..very tiny home
