In Canada we get a 2021 'Outdoor' edition with the 2.5L and a front camera in the 6.5" display as well as dual x-mode, yellow stitching and yellow metal steering wheel accents... and a few other perks. I just pre-ordered one so will let you know what I think after moving down to 182hp from a 335hp AWD! But the clearance and looks have always appealed to me, as well as the savings in fuel. I appreciate your video and glad you are a fan as well!
I actually believe Subaru releases new generations on the sixth year of production so I would expect the next gen Crosstrek for the model year 2023. The new 2021 model is still considered the same generation as the 2020 in your video. In other words, 1st Generation Crosstreks: 2013-2018. 2nd Generation Crosstrek: 2018-2023. Hey, I could be completely wrong, though. Also, I know you weren't sure but you can only get the 2.5L in the Sport and Limited models. The only choice of engine in the Base and Premium models is the 2.0L. Anyway, thanks for posting this! I've watched several of your videos and enjoy the content.
You are correct. I get my generation refreshes confused across all the brands I make videos on! The 4th year of production for Subaru is an exterior refresh and interior revisions, so this is update is inline.... just wish they would’ve pushed the interior revisions a bit more.
These are great cars that sell on their own, especially in New England, North western States, Canada. In the province of Quebec, there is a 3 month wait for a Crosstrek....says something positive about the brand! The plug in Hybrid Crosstrek coming soon, already has several orders!
For the difference in price between a premium and a limited or sport model you would be better off buying an Outback premium. As an owner of a 2021 Crosstrek with the two liter I can say I'm pleasantly surprised and happy with the power that it has.
I’ve been wanting Subaru to do a touring model in the crosstreck. That would be awesome for those who don’t need the forester space but want the premium accessories. Maybe if more of us request it they’ll hear us.
Great review! I am waiting for a 2022 Limited in the Kool Gray Khaki. I appreciate the side by side comparison. It's easy to see the subtle differences. Is it my imagination or does the 2021 look higher in the front? All o here in Canada we have silver accent door handles and we don't get the auto dimming mirror with homelink. Add on. We do get dual zone climate control as well. So many little differences for the US and Canada. Thanks for the review. I enjoyed it! Cheers
Excellent commentary... the engine difference is significant. Very fair and efficient comparison. Hmmm seems like the HP increase is worth it. Thanks for the UA-cam post 👍
If only Subaru would do a turbo Crosstrek. It could be a mild tune with 200hp and around 220 tq which would be a godsend to Crosstrek lovers, yet no threat to WRX sales. I mean do you know even one WRX owner who considered getting a Crosstrek instead? That wouldnt change even with a turbo model...we would still be talking about a 7.5 sec 0-60 with 200hp, but it would be great help to those who drive in the moutains/hills either daily or during their weekend adventures. Oh well, I'm sure some modders will go ahead and turbo their Crosstrek, but it would be nice coming from the factory with a warranty.
Yes 2021 front bumper is way different than the 2020 as far as the clading I'm trying to find chrome fog light cover and all I can find is the 20 one and they don't fit the 21.
I am still debating between the Kona 2020 or the Crosstrek 2020. I heard the crosstrek is way more expensive to service than the Kona and the Kona has a longer warranty than the Crosstrek.

I really like the Crosstrek and see myself buying one sometime. I'm just not a fan of the grille on any of them. Fortunately, though there seem to be a few after-market grilles that look better.
Not a big fan of the additional plastic cladding added to the front. The 2020 had a perfect amount of cladding. Now Subaru's just adding way too much cladding, just look at the darn new Outback.

I would say its a sensible informative comparison.. just wanted to know (as you own this car) if 2L engine is under powered or 2.5l would be the good choice??

Hmmmm, ordering and driving a '21 Limited must mean I have limited oil consumption. I don't seem to have that issue, or maybe the information someone else posted is not correct. My gut tells me #2 is misinformed about something they don't own. 🤣🤣
Gotta get the right exterior color to compliment the Orange Stitching inside. I ordered a loaded '21 Limited in Crystal White Pearl with the Gray/Black leather. It's killer honestly.
I want a part-time AWD manual 2.5 hybrid Crosstrek with eyesight (and yes it works on manuals, they have it overseas). It would be FWD 99% of the time to reduce driveline lash for smoother shifting and efficiency, but the electric motor could help motivate the rear tires whenever it detects slippage, to help get rolling for the start-stop system, and for regenerative braking. Subaru needs to hire me to the design team.
I like he BIGGER engine size, the everything inside is great as is:) JUST know the radio will freeze up when full of predetermined saved locations on tom tom= NEED to hold down power button until it resets, if it freezes up again, just delete a few saved locations, EASY peasy! Glad my email got through to subaru on increasing the front cladding to stop people from backing into the vehicle when parked!
Yes I agree. I have a 2019 premium and I bit my tongue at the 2.5 liter option when it came out for 2021. But the front end is starting to look like a big toy. I dont want the Crosstrek to turn into the Tranformer-esque aesthetic that is the most modern Forester Sport. Sorry to owners, but I dont like the look at all
