- 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport review by The Straight Pipes. The Subaru Crosstrek Sport / Outdoor is pumping out 182hp and 176 lb-ft tq from a 2.5L 4 cylinder boxer engine. Sitting at $31,795 CAD, would this be your pick over the Mazda CX-30, Toyota CHR, Honda HRV, Hyundai Kona?

i maybe choose the crosstrek
CX30 👌
Cx30 turbo
kona and crosstrek
I wish y'all would review normal cars instead of insane aspirational dream cars like this one. Smh.
😂
🤣🤣 that’s a good one
Lol!
9:26 my man Jason prefers his Crosstrek with a manual so no 2.5 for him unfortunately
This is a normal car
“Sorry for being Canadian” is the most Canadian thing you can say.
lol - was about to post this.
Sorry for what? Unfu****g grateful! We are worse off now after people voted against Trump and Biden cancelled the keystone pipeline which Trump intended to make USA energy independent,
@@valentinorossi7771 u probably live in alberta
@@mclovin5199 Never been to Canada. Never need to go there. Everything is available here in Oklahoma. Eat your heart dude.
Most hypocritical thing to say. There's nothing wrong to be Canadian. Fuck the political correctness bs
My Ukrainian and Polish friends love Yuri's and Jakub's intro for the above Subaru Crosstrek review! Вітаю! / Gratulacje!
I couldnt agree more! Thats such a nice little thing but it made my day. Thanks!
Much love from Poland
Sweet -- The Outdoor Edition -- looking forward to the Indoor Edition to safely get me to the bathroom, kitchen or,...anywhere else I'll need to go in my house.
Subaru Hoverboard AWD, all two wheels powered by a rubberband transmission.
It should have been named the Offroad Edition. Not the Indoor edition!😁
Thats called the acorn stairlift with the deluxe mobility package.
We have a 2018 Crosstrek Limited and I had this “new” model for a loaner for a day. Wow, the upgraded engine is SO much better suited for it than the 2.0. SO MUCH better! And I agree, the seats are more comfortable. The shape hasn’t changed, but maybe it’s because the leather in ours is so stiff and the SofTex material is more forgiving. Hate the Plasma Yellow.
They got rid of Sunshine Orange for that plasma baby poo yellow. I was going to trade in my 2019 Touring but changed my mind because of this. I'm not a fan of what they did with the squared off and extra chonky plastic cladding.
I love the intro! This is the only N.A. automotive channel on UA-cam where the hosts can do that. Highlight the Skillz.
Cool effect with the Price disappearing "behind" the tree!
It’s at 14:33 for anyone who wants to see it.
I actually appreciate the manual hand brake for the rear. As someone who lived in the frosty Dakotas for years, the hand brake is key to maintaining control on ice, slush, and mud. Couple that with the AWD and traction control systems and you've got yourself a vehicle that will tackle the worst winter roads with the grace of an Olympic figure skater.
I’m super excited for the Impreza review. I have a 2017 sport and I’ve been waiting for these guys to review one for a while now ❤️
Waking up for coffee and straightpipes. Good way to start the weekend.
Intro "... and we're driving to Siberia." [ drone shot of driving across endless snow field ]
*Borat theme song starts playing*
What
@@TheStraightPipes You’re going to Brazil
I bought the 2014 Sport (Manual) as a daily commuter. Zero complaints. Great on gas. Great in the snow. Ground clearance for going "off road". Subaru crushed it as the perfect snow-country commuter. I wish they'd give you the 2.5L in a manual. [and yes... I smash through snow banks all the time]
Hats off gentlemen, I like seeing affordable vehicles tested and extra points for vehicles that are functional and practical. Sorry I didn't post these comments for the CX30 review.
Love the vids! Thanks for making life a little bit more fun🌝
A as fan from Australia i appreciate you guys putting in the KW numbers also!! Love your vids
Just bought my outdoor at the end of December! Same color and everything. I love it!
I've have the Sport edition (American equivalent to Outdoor) since August 2020 and the auto start/stop was super rough until 3,000 miles in. Now it does it smoothly.
I have always dug the look of these. Not really the color you have, but the styling in general. Glad they finally added more power.
OH WOW thank you guys I'm from Cape Town South Africa and we really don't understand horsepower we do KW so thank you sooooo much for adding it with your new style, that is all subscriber friendly awesome man keep up the good content you guys rock
Unironically refreshing to see a car maker not afraid of using a 2.5 instead of a 1.6 turbo
Love the color and thanks for making quarantine life way better!
I believe my dad bought the second crosstrek sport sold in the U.S. lol. It's a great car for everyday driving, especially in the snow.
Just saying my 4 year old outback has a crankshaft seal oil leak already and its a 2017. Has the same engine and all the maintenance is done so look for oil leaks so it gets fixed under warranty if it happens to you
@@Hallowsaw man ur kidding me this quality of cars now is pathetic. My brothers Chevy equinox had a seat belt sensor issue within 10k miles😭 I really see now that people don’t care about quality. I’m only 18 but my 05 civic ex special edition coupe has a little leak from the oil pan gasket but nothing major my valve cover gasket has to be replaced but it’s like 0° here but for a 16 year old car I’m very pleased rubber always will wear out over time so 16 years of redlining at 7-8k def held up.
I would argue that the crosstrek isn’t the most fun car, but it is the best bang-for-your buck and it will get you anywhere you need to go on and off road. Also, it has great mpg, space, and safety features.
That look on Jakob's face during the acceleration: priceless.
FINALLY I’ve been waiting for this.
Finally! So happy to see your pride and using your mother tongue.
Had my Crosstrek sport for a couple months now. Pretty good review, I feel a lot about what you said is true to the car. The cvt is the big killer to the whole car. Other than that, it is a great adventure vehicle.
Love my Crosstrek! I've got a 2018 6-Speed base model and it is amazing when we get snow and ice, AWD is great!
Picked up one of these a couple of weeks ago. Swapped my wife's 2018 Audi Q3. Frankly it does everything well, great value, room for 4 easily and my large dog in the blackening, engine enough for around the crappy winter streets in Calgary. Other than not having 4 rings on the front it is just better at half the price.
Front end looks like it’s stuck in the late 90s or early 2000s. It’s cute
If it was truly a 90's retro design, it wouldn't have a grill opening above the bumper line. I blame Audi for the trend of making the fake oversized grills that run above and below the bumperline. The actual cooling intake area doesn't need to be as big as the gapping mouth of a Mazda CX-30 makes it out to be.
Halogen reflector headlights on a 2021 non-base model car.... This would be a safety harzard
Rear end reminded me once of a Dodge Caliber and since then I can't unsee.
I don’t know what “cute” means for a car.
@Ethan Pae um my Alfa Romeo has functional vents and grills.
For a crosstrek 2.5 is perfect and I’m glad I waited for the extra 30hp. The power leather seats and the led steering responsive headlights were the deciding factor for picking a limited over the sport/outdoor. Also the us doesn’t have a front camera...
Overall cons from owning the car for 5 months is there’s no ac vents in the back. Then hatch light barely lights up anything. The cup holder do fit most cup but it’s too big they will just wobble around.
I have been driving my 2021 crosstrek limited for almost 6 months and I love it! Originally I was picking CX-30 and Crosstrek, but when I sat on CX-30, the driver seat was so much cramp than crosstrek, almost gave me a claustrophobic...The crosstrek limited has everything that you pointed out lacking in the outdoor trim, it has LED lamp, electric driver seat, dual zone climate control and a better sound system as well. So I think that's a better buy than the outdoor trim if you want these
CX-30: cramped AND blind spots rear left and right = no thanks.
i was so confused at the beginning cause i was on another tab......
I have been saying for a few years now, that they should truly STi the Crosstrek. Have the 245 HP motor from the WRX, tuned suspension, dual clutch and manual, and a front bash plate. Perhaps even a .5 -1 inch lift over stock. I would definitely love to have that.
Thats a spitting image of my car. I absolutely love it.
Everyone break out the flaming pitch forks for the CVT.
Cvt sucks
If you like cars then.. well yeah. You aren't going to like a CVT.
As a previous owner of a Subaru Outback, I can attest to how bad Subaru CVT's really are. Combined with the loud valve train noise coming from the flat 4.
I don't mind my Hondas CVT at all, I mean I wish it weren't but at the same time it's fine.
Cvt sucks. Maybe Subaru can change it in the next generation
Ahh yes the outdoor edition implying the indoor edition exists.
I’m so glad you’ve now started putting nm and kw conversions up. Now I understand lol
I’m glad you admit the brands always give the higher trims. Most people don’t get the highest trim of cars
It would be nice to include the 0-100 times in these reviews if you're timing them. Keep up the great work!
Ahhh now thats better! My morning poo and TheStraightPipes, its gonna be a good Friday!
💩
Same actually
Me too
WAS WAITING FOR THIS REVIEW FOR SO LONG BOIS
I test drove one a year ago and loved it! Wish I would have gotten one instead of my 2019 Rogue..
Wow I was literally just looking at these for my wife yesterday! Perfect timing 👌
Do it! Check my vids.
Try driving it at night in rural unlit roads with those horrible halgoen reflector headlights. You may think again, it could be a safety harzard
@@cococly I've put led aftermarket lights. AUXBEAM F-16 Plus. Works so great. Did the same thing to 2019 impreza. There's a nice clean cut. Not blinding on coming drivers.
I compared it to the factory led projectors from other trump and my led what better. My dad's limited on High beams is dimmer than mine without it. No need for led bars. 😉
That intro music is spot on! Is that a full track or something the guys whipped up for the vid?
I never really liked the Crosstrek, but I respect that it's honest about what it is
I love my Crosstrek Outdoor!! 🇨🇦
Love Your Videos.
I think it would be cool if Subaru gave their Outback the same exterior paint options. The Crosstrek has tons of fun colors that would look cool on their wagon!
its all gangster till the dudes start speaking enchantment table
Great intro, loved it.
I’m a big Subaru fan. Subaru’s in the snow...nothing is better IMO. This Plasma Yellow paint is epic. I love it.
An STI Crosstrek?!? Omg that would be awesome. TURBOOOOOO!!
Manual mode is more touchy, it may not be the fastest at shifting but you can really feel the power more in the turns and makes the car fun to have.
i think you did an awesome intro, just a suggestion do it for all the international languages every intro will be awesome and diffferent :D
Thank you for adding kw when showing the power outputs. 👍🏾
Halogens are still nice for melting ice or snow on the bulb, but I agree, they're definitely not bright
I think headlight technology needs to revert a few years am I the only one constantly being blinded by anything at night?
@@HyperSarcasticAvocado they aren’t that bad at all they’d be bright enough if everyone else wasn’t blinding you with leds
@@grievuspwn4g3 and now bmw has laser high beams which will be fantastic when the stuck up drivers leave them on!
Having a front facing camera allways on is superb. In a tall vehicle /including s minivan/ is just good. Or at least for low speeds of up to 30km/h.
Щиро дякуємо за інформативний огляд, хлопці. Ви кращі, як завжди!💪🏎
That price transition was CLEAAAAN how it faded behind the tree/ house
You guys should find someone with an offroad crosstrek setup and test drive it. Would definitely watch!
The wormy feeling looks like the tires flexing through turns. Big rubber big flex
My mom and dad own one of these and we love it
Appreciate for your video! Well made and lighten up my day ! Looking forward for this car, but just a doubt , actually how is the reliability of this car?
My wife owns the 2018 Top of the line Crosstrek with the 2.0 , It's a phenomenal car for the money especially with awd and all the safety features. I just wish it it had about 50percent more power.
In Sweden (and rest of Europe I guess) it is called XV and comes with active LED headlights etc. Looks abit more modern in that regard but the old engine was insanely slow. Tested one and passed because of that when I shopped for a new car last year.
I love your videos! I just have a question for Yuri. Where do you get your clothes? I love the floral/Hawaiian style shirts you wear.
Łoo Panie wypas! :))) Good work guys. Keep doing :))
How much more fun would this have been if there was a Sport variant with 205hp & 205 tq? Cause that would have made swayed me to get one as some freeways here drop you off in the fast lane when switching to it.
Love the content guys! Do you mind doing a Subaru Outback Onyx XT or perhaps the upcoming Subaru Outback Wilderness once that comes out?
Touch to lock/unlck inside the door handle is great, i love it...when it works. My 2018 f150 had very temperamental locks where it only locked the driver door and i couldnt check the passenger side door without unlocking the car... Crap build quality and dark tint made my first world problem very painful to live with
Awesome car, great review!
That intro 🎶 !!! 🙌🏼 🔥
This is my winter daily driver! I'm plowing through snow in my continental winter tires 😁
Try it with Nokian Hakkapeliitta 😉 Check my vids.
When your eyesight wasn’t picking up the lanes it appeared you didn’t have the cruise control engaged. For it to go into lane centering the cruise has to be engaged, if it’s not then it’s more just like a lane keep assist and only goes “active” when you drift out of your lane. I have the 2021 sport and love it.
I thought you guys would flex and show us a Crosstrek with Manual Transmission
hey, I have a 2019 Crosstrek that I easily passed a Mercedes, Audi, some pick up trucks, and Mazda with lite acceleration. I drove it to work with no problem ever being late for the past 2 years so don't be saying they're slow cause they're not. it drives like your average car everyday car.
I agree. Vast majority of the people on here have no idea what they are talking about. Saying this as a '16 Crosstrek Limited owner, who traded it for a '19 Crosstrek Premium, and then upgraded it to the '21 Sport.
@@dannytse8767 yeah, and once they buy this new Crosstrek, they'll be saying it's too fast.
No waaaay, this was by far the best intro ever!!!
I’m Ukrainian too, lol
Limited trim with this engine is where it's at... have a '17 Impreza limited and love, but just needs a little more UMPH which this has (and more space!)
We love our Kona, but would now look more seriously at the Xtrek with the better HP than before.
Нарешті!!! Finally some "giddy up and go" from the ultimate cross country machine.
They were very generous with the looks of this Subaru. Of ALL the economy brands, subies are solid 2/5 in looks.
Crosstreks look better than most shitboxes
I have always dug the look of these.
I’ve driven mine since September and what I can tell you is:
• It’s a lot faster on intelligent mode and 3/4 foot down, it’s fake shifting 3500 to 4200 rpm 12 x in the best way
• Infotainment bugs once in a while, no radio, doesn’t hang up calls or no Apple Carplay
If you live somewhere that the roads are awful, this is perfect. It’s like a magic carpet.
If you want something dynamic and fun to drive, this isn’t it. This is my C0vid car, AKA I work from home so I just need something decent, comfy and not to expensive.
Yoooo the intro!
If there was an STI Crosstrek I would 100% want one. Especially if it were a Baja type setup!
I would watch a CX 30 vs Crosstrek comparison for sure!
So my wife has very specific car exterior tastes. She wants it boxy, but not too boxy. The Impreza wagon is too long and low, but this Crosstrek, with small lift, is ok. This Crosstrek is all America needs. That and the Outback.
You’re finally reviewing a 2009 Subaru Impreza, they day we’ve all been waiting for is coming!
Even the normal Subaru's sound good to me just because they have that boxer growl. Definitely sounds better than an inline 4. Subaru's doing good things these days for the most part but the lack of LED headlights across most of their lineup is a bummer.
Even though the CVT has "fake" gears, you can let off the gas as if you were manually shifting and control the "shift" for better acceleration instead of red lining by flooring it
Нарешті дочекалися! Я мало зі стільця не впав 😂
Я теж лул 😂
Got a CX30 non-turbo last year and I love it. Drove the 2020 Crosstrek and it was horrible when compared. I would love to see the 2021s cuz both got a significant boost.
Test drive both a cx-30 and a 2023 Crosstrek. Cx-30 was better on pavement. But completely lacks when it comes to anything but just that. The Crosstrek is waaaay better of an overall car. I drive on rough pavement and dirt roads often and the cx-30 felt like it was going to fall apart
@@alexandertourville5015 after having my 2020 cx30 for a few years and driving on dirt/gravel/logging roads for camping, kayaking, snowboarding, etc I've had zero issues with being able to access things unlike many other cars. It's the same experience as my previous Subarus (had an 1990 legacy as my first car and an 04 Impreza immediately before this) but with more creature features.
their names made so much sense with that intro😂
I'm curious how the INDOOR Edition looks like
A hotweels car?
Beat me to it lol
It’s called the BRZ
The same as the Outdoor version, but you have to be indoors when you're looking at it.
Covid style
I was like Damn i understand what they are saying, then i realized i was reading the subtitles mouhahaha AWESOME INTRO
I'd really like to see the comparison of them!! CX30 and crosstrek!!
Now, if only Subaru would offer the 2.5L engine in the Impreza Hatch. I love the way that car looks and it is just the right size but it has no power.
Is that a CD player in the infotainment system? Almost didn’t recognize it.
Subaru Canada. You need to modify the options on the models you offer there. The Crosstrek Limited in the USA has the 2.5 litre, LED's and Eyesight. The advantage the Canadian version has is the front camera and heated steering wheels.
