Possibly the most honest game trailer ever released. - Entirely in-engine, which is refreshing in a world where games are often shown off as entirely pre-rendered cutscenes designed to look as epic as possible with no semblance of gameplay whatsoever. - Contains almost an entire minute of just panning over wide landscapes while playing ambient sounds and the odd piano note, which is very much representative of the atmosphere of the final game. - Much of the trailer is spent just going over basic gameplay features that will end up being mundane mechanics you'll see for the entire game - eg. magnesis, stasis, cooking, the ability to climb anything, etc. - A huge portion of the footage is just from the great plateau. - Trailer is in 720p, which is actually a lower resolution than the final Switch version, which is what most people will end up playing. This is pretty much the opposite of what developers typically do to hype a game up, but somehow Nintendo managed to show off this game in the most basic and honest possible way and it was still enough to hype people up for it. It's nice to see a game that stands on its own two feet based on its own merits and not some pre-rendered cutscene designed to hype people up as much as possible with a bunch of empty promises.

Indeed good sir and I can confirm I love Link more then any video game character I have ever played before that man is infinitely timeless I love BoTw so much to because of the princess mononoke inspiration ❤️ but the hero of time is my all time favorite Link 🔥
To this day this trailer gives me literal chills. I was so excited for BoTW to come out because of how different it was from the rest of the series. Makes me wish I could go back to 2017
I played this game during the pandemic lockdown, it used to be so depressing staying put at home away from the world for months. I generally didn't enjoy open-world games due to their non-linear story, and I had never played any Zelda game before, but I decided to give this a shot nonetheless. The first few hours were okay, but before I knew it I didn't even realize how hooked I was to its beautiful world. Literally, there are so many secrets, so much to do, so many little villages that legit felt like home, the warm music around certain parts, and the joy of finding the tents of travelers at unexpected places. I cannot tell you how this game saved me from depression during the lockdown, and how I still haven't found a replacement to this epic.
Try other Zelda games, none of them are nearly as open as this one, but the puzzles, dungeons, bosses and story are much better in them in my opinion, plus they have a pretty big focus on exploration too. They might fill the void left behind by finishing this game. I recommend links awakening, ocarina of time, a link between worlds, and any hyrule warriors game. There's also twilight princess, skyward sword, majora's mask, wind waker, a link to the past, and minish cap. Some are on switch like skyward sword and links awakening. There are some that are multiplayer like the four swords games and cadence of hyrule crypt of the necromancer featuring the legend of Zelda. Sorry for rambling on about Zelda games lol
You HAVE to try Ocarina Of Time. That is my all time favorite Zelda game. I have played through it probably more than a dozen times. The open world and different things you can do and all the different villages you can visit are just amazing.
@@adampowell8804 the open world doesn't hold up to today's standards, since it's just a large field with sub areas, but everything else you just said is incredibly true.
I know! I don't mind too much, I thinking it will be like Wind-Waker, but more side quests like Majora's Mask, plus instead of lots of plain old waves and water, everything will be detailed. I just hope there is the green tunic! I haven't seen proof of it yet.
I think we can expect a story of some sort, like a corrupted hyrule in need of a hero, since the "Guardians" are corrupted, and it seems that the Hyrule castle has been corrupted two, with the surrounding veil.
All the people complaining about graphics is just Wind Waker repeating itself. I know Sony and Microsoft are pushing great graphics but Nintendo's philosophy has mainly been: Gameplay > Graphics
Its not suppose to look mega realistic, like the other consoles are trying hard to push, its a fun cartoon game that's real entertainment is its fun adventure, open world, and puzzles. Not these basic shooters that have been coming out lately
I have been, and I have over 1,100 hours logged on the Wii U version of the game. I am also working on Let's Plays of the Normal and Master Modes of the game. Breath of the Wild Wii U has taken over my life x3
Honestly I think no company will ever come even remotely close to the masterpieces that Nintendo creates. Their (major) games are consistently fun or amazing. I believe that gameplay and music > graphics in every case.
I think Naughty Dog is right up there with them, but they're very different companies so I won't say anything is necessarily better about either one. Nintendo is definitely one of the greats, no doubt about that, it's just not the only one imo.
Therealchris929 Lol I’m a huge Nintendo fan but I would really like to play those games. Owning more than one console is expensive though. I had playstation 1&2 but never an Xbox.
Therealchris929 Lol That sounds like a pretty good deal especially from gamestop. Switch is a great system. But I wish I could play old school playstation games. Twisted metal, bloody roar, and marvel vs capcom were pretty good games.
The "Open Your Eyes" still sends chills down my spine. Incredible memories playing this for the first time on my brand new Switch in my upstairs bedroom loft, alone and happy and lost in adventure.
Except…it doesn’t, really. I can’t say there was a single time when I felt genuinely scared, sad, or concerned for a character. These might sound like strange emotions to want to feel, but games like twilight Princess and Majoras mask cover the full spectrum of emotions so much better.
@@im_Spade_ i got it the day it came out but didn't really get into the game until 2 years after. its my second favorite zelda game. My first is Ocarina of Time but probably just bc of nostalgia
@@Galaxia_EX I totally agree. Breath of the Wild is a really good game, but not good enough to make #1 on like every best games list. All "characters" are more or less cardboard cutouts.
Its weird going back to early trailers after pouring a couple hundred hours into the final game. You notice the subtle differences here and there, and you get those weird memories of being exited for the day you finally get to play it. You recall all the weird speculation that was floating around at the time. Its just fun to remember and think about.
TheMothMonster It is indeed. I remember watching the all the trailers the night before release. Then I woke up at like 9 and hunted for switches until 12. It was like a scavenger hunt. I finally found one at Walmart. Then I got some donuts for “breakfast”. I was literally shaking and felt nauseous while eating. I rushed home and played it all day. It was great.
This trailer is special, it is calm, slow, beautiful and suddenly it is epic, with so much new things going on. I think it perfectly describes the game. Just by watching it you can tell how well the world is crafted, every hills and and every puddles, nothing is here without a reason.
I’ve never played a Zelda game in my life before and this game was an amazing start to it if you’re having second thoughts erase them and buy it especially at this time then you’ll be able to play the sequel as well. Trust me it’s definitely worth it.
@@pokejourneys8919 i have to take breaks in between gameplay because YES its sooooo MASSIVE that it becomes overwhelming....which in a paradox way thats what makes this game phenomenal because of the work and effort that was put into this. Fun fact: the switch stops tracking hours after 1,000. All mine says is “played for more than 1,000 hours” and after more than 1,000 hours, more than 6 entire play throughs, and 5 years, I still see things I’ve never seen before, and find shrines I’ve never done.

This game was truly worthy of the Game of the Year title. It has set the bar impossibly high for the sequel, but I believe the developers are capable of reaching that bar. I cannot wait until BOTW 2.
I hope Nintendo does this kind of trailer again for Tears of the Kingdom. This is one of the most beautiful trailers ever and I still love watching it five years after the game came out.

Second, Tears of the Kingdom will be a darker game, so I don't think it matches with this trailer. But I hope I'm wrong

And so we come to the saddest setting that any Zelda game has taken place. A world left in ruins. A wilderness to beheld. No sign of civilization, no people around save for a few traveling by. You see that there used to be the kingdom once known as Hyrule all around you. But it is long gone by this point, nothing more than stone half-buried by nature. Everything that you know about the Legend of the Zelda is almost a myth itself. Zelda, the Master Sword, the Hero's Clothes, the Triforce. Nowhere to be found. Even the villainous Ganon has become a myth of itself, no longer the ambitious warlock king of the Gerudo but now just an ancient force of evil that has no real name anymore. Where are those missing aspects, those long-cherished things that become the mythos of the Hyrule world? This game only offers you clues. It's up to you to take the breath of the wild world before and uncover.... *THE LEGEND OF ZELDA*
Pretty sure this will be a masterpiece. Focused on the gameplay, amazing atmosphere, huge world, plus a bit of the first NES Zelda game vibe. This is art. This is glorious. THIS is what all the real fans wanted.
So. It's been a year since this game came out. Words cannot describe what this game means to me. "This doesn't look like a Zelda game" People all complaining about that, but before this they complained about Nintendo always doing the same thing, no pleasing you people. I think this looks amazing, and I'm very excited to get my hands on it.
People clearly haven't play the original Zelda. This is way more what Zelda was meant to be, based on how the series started. I'm super excited for this game!
Well, I never thought that every Zelda game was similar to each other - but the other way round. For me, Nintendo always achieved to make each game of the series pretty unique and innovative, and that's why I'm a great fan of Zelda series. And this trailer pleases me a lot.
Whats absolutely incredible about this trailer/the game itself is that, in most trailers like this, they're just animations that aren't anything close to the actual gameplay. But in this trailer, everything, the sounds, the atmosphere, the lighting, the animals, the gameplay, the graphics, everything is footage pulled straight from the game. Even the music. And that, my friends, is what makes Breath of the Wild the greatest and most breathtaking video game in existence.
Played Breath of the Wild for less than a week, I think this is already my favorite game of all time. Breath of the Wild is truly amazing. Mario Odyssey will probably become my second favorite game of all time.

And now, it's 2022. BOTW 2 will be released this year, and I absolutely cannot wait to breathe in this wild world again.

(unenthusiastically) hurrah for amiibos. The bane of the wallet and the spoiling of the rich... (Congrats amiibo on pretty much partnering on Nintendo btw...)
Games don't need an impressive art style to be great. It's the music, the feels, the nostalgia, the love poured into it. Be glad that this game has been delayed, would you rather have it rushed out the door and be absolutely terrible? What made Zelda a great game? The characters and the depths of everything in the game. Remember Ocarina of Time. That moment when you first stepped onto Hyrule Field, the music that played when you took your first step into the giant world of Hyrule. The sense of exploration and freedom to choose, all you had to do was decide where to go. You created the legend yourself, you unfolded the tale of the Hero of Time in your own way. Look at Twilight Princess. That moment when you turned into a wolf. Not only was there a story to the human form of Link, but to his beast form. A bonding between you and the characters in the game. The showdown between Zant and who could forget that awesome Ganondorf battle? Right in the middle of Hyrule field. No magic, just the two of you and your swords, and the awesome music that played. "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad" - Shigeru Miyamoto.
thats not the point, the point is technology has reached a point where developers are given the tools to make games look good, good looking games doesnt mean a game is good but nintendo has taken way too long to catch up with sony and microsoft pus a good looking game is still very appealling ive never seen a good looking game recieve a horrible review maybe not the best but not horrible

It has been six years... And the game still holds up. Even with TOTK out, this game is still amazing
Hope this encourages you to play other Zelda games! I recommend Majora's Mask or Skyward Sword.
same here. I purchased BOTW during the first lockdown in my country. Second Zelda game I played in my life, after Twilight Princess

I love people saying that this isn't Zelda.
Zelda 1 was open world too, folks.
I know! I don't mind too much, I thinking it will be like Wind-Waker, but more side quests like Majora's Mask, plus instead of lots of plain old waves and water, everything will be detailed. I just hope there is the green tunic! I haven't seen proof of it yet.
+Bla Bla hope there's side quests but aside from collection & the shrine stuff it doesn't look like likely- only a couple of NPCs and no villages :(
From the begining they always wanted to have it be open world, but the console limitations prevented that. This is a true Legend of Zelda game.
Zelda OOT was pretty much open world, too. Just because it's open world doesn't mean it can't have story.

I know Sony and Microsoft are pushing great graphics but Nintendo's philosophy has mainly been:
Gameplay > Graphics
Its not suppose to look mega realistic, like the other consoles are trying hard to push, its a fun cartoon game that's real entertainment is its fun adventure, open world, and puzzles. Not these basic shooters that have been coming out lately
+Tro Lol its not real raced yet so it can always improve
People these days only want boring realistic graphics and don't understand the concept of art style.
Wind Waker was a bloody amazing game!!!
I don't have a WiiU but I'll admit these cartoonish graphics work well

Honestly I think no company will ever come even remotely close to the masterpieces that Nintendo creates. Their (major) games are consistently fun or amazing. I believe that gameplay and music > graphics in every case.
I think Naughty Dog is right up there with them, but they're very different companies so I won't say anything is necessarily better about either one. Nintendo is definitely one of the greats, no doubt about that, it's just not the only one imo.

Except…it doesn’t, really. I can’t say there was a single time when I felt genuinely scared, sad, or concerned for a character. These might sound like strange emotions to want to feel, but games like twilight Princess and Majoras mask cover the full spectrum of emotions so much better.

Gotaro more dark then majoras mask?! IMPOSSIBLE lol
@@judgementkazzy4781 They said it its on ign
Every time I watch this trailer, it never fails to make me tear up. The music, scenery, story, mechanics, everything... out of all the LoZ I've played, or rather the games I've played in my entire life so far, this has been by far one of the best gaming experiences.
And now, it's 2022. BOTW 2 will be released this year, and I absolutely cannot wait to breathe in this wild world again.
Hehe
Man it's only been a year since this trailer dropped but golly I'm getting NOSTALGIC vibes from my mind being blown when I saw this for the first time.
Mattias I remember I was late for an event, and then I saw this trailer. I never really went to said event.
“Had the game for years, still gets excited watching the trailer” 😁
Same
Idem.
same
yeah I also get excited everytime I watch the BoTW 2 trailer even though it has been over a year and I watch it on a regular basis
And now the second one is coming... two years after this masterpiece. E3 has been nothing but a blessing
Gavi Marion It's crazy how it's already been two years! I remember when I first got my Switch with the game, and I actually cried. I couldn't believe it was actually happening! From the moment when I first opened up Breath of the Wild to now seeing E3 2019, I've never been disappointed with Nintendo.
Nope, it said that they just started DEVELOPING the second one, which means that it most likely won't be out before 2022/23
@PikaCinema where do you get that information from? The trailer says that developement started shortly.
nope, not likely at all
@PikaCinema And if you announce something for the first time and say "NOW in developement", it means that it couldn't have started long ago.
No more E3 this year sadly
Weird that seven years have passed....
Time is moving Too fast
Naw but why does it feel like it came out last month?
The Legend of Zelda: Death of the Wallet
The Legend of Zelda: Death of my Social Life
The legend of Zelda: Virgin for life
couldnt you say that about any game?
javo bean if you count all the dlc packs and ammibos
(unenthusiastically) hurrah for amiibos. The bane of the wallet and the spoiling of the rich...
(Congrats amiibo on pretty much partnering on Nintendo btw...)
If this doesn't win Game of the Year it better at least win Best Music because this music is liquid gold.
***** But those are movies not games.
***** True but I'm talking about the Game awards.
UltimateGeek isn't that coming out on ps4?
the music is kinda sparse but the theme is spot on
Josh LeBlanc actually the music is not great in this game
Unless you're Duke nuke 'em forever.
How's the graphics bad? It's an art style lol.
Nice. Thank you!
thats not the point, the point is technology has reached a point where developers are given the tools to make games look good, good looking games doesnt mean a game is good but nintendo has taken way too long to catch up with sony and microsoft pus a good looking game is still very appealling ive never seen a good looking game recieve a horrible review maybe not the best but not horrible
+sakic19rules watchdogs.
6 years later. I’ve beaten it 3 times. This trailer still gives me chills, and tears in my eyes. A masterpiece.
