There’s absolutely no difference with the new 770’s other than looks and tech selling jargon. You won’t benefit from the previous version . The previous model felt fine but don’t pretend any of these feel quite as nice as blades but I know a golfer off +5 using 770’s so don’t be drawn into nonsense. The faces on the clubs don’t last anything like as long as they did and with the ridiculous prices of clubs these days it’s pricing the normal working class people out of golf . Takomo CB’s feel and look as good as anything and are probably less than half the price of the new or even the previous 770’s . Maltby are making incredible irons to suit all golfers and all feel incredible but all under £500
Ordered my dad a 4 and 5 irons new p770 to go with the set of 2023 p770s I gave him 6-pw and I truly think the 2023 ones look better. They should of made them look like p790 if they were going to change them.
Thank you James. I'm Not in the market for new irons. But if I was. It would be a hard pick between these new P770's and the Srixon ZX5's. I'd enjoy your review of the feel of both of those irons. Thanks again for your reviews. Cheers!
They look nice but the Ping Blueprint T irons are the best looking irons I’ve ever seen in my opinion. These are undoubtedly more gameable, but the Blueprint T’s are stunning.
James, I have the 101T irons from Takomo. These new 770s look like they came off the same production line as the Takomo or caley irons. I’m getting more and more disillusioned with the majors. From a new driver model that doesn’t change the average golfer’s performance every year, to stamped out cartoon strong lofted clunky irons, that have been the same. I’ve learned to look at what has worked. Love your reviews.
Think they look amazing but for £1250 for 5-pw I would never buy them prices are getting ridiculous I've got some ping i230 an won't change them for a long time now and if I do swap them will look at takomo now
@@HemiNole Takomo lists the 101t as a “player distance iron!” That’s the eqivelent to the P790! And Takomo lists the 201 as a “players iron!” Taylormade lists the 770 as a modern player iron! There is a significant difference in player vs player distance, cavity or not!
@@HemiNole Plus I actually own the 201s, and they are player irons! Love them, and highly suggest them especially for the price! I have compared them to the previous P770s, so I actually have a point of reference!
Yes, beautiful clubs, but don't you find the SpeedFoam plug a bit of an eyesore? The Mizuno Pro 245 doesn't have this problem, of course. I think these TaylorMades are above my level (I'm a 16 handicap, but a relatively good iron player). I'm just getting used to my brand new JPX 923 Forged, which look beautiful and feel great.
Wish reviewers would say what handicap level the clubs they are reviewing would suit. I play off 15 and I've got no idea if these would help me or hinder me.
I strongly advise you to try several different models and get properly fitted for an ideal shaft and head combination (I went to Precision Golf in West Byfleet, other fitting centres are available). It's not a free service, but they give great advice, and it stops you from making an expensive mistake. You can see full iron fittings on UA-cam. For what it's worth, I'm a 16 handicap, and even though my iron play is a strong part of my game, I think these P770s are beyond me. I got fitted for JPX 923 Forged with a KBS Tour Lite shaft (95 grammes, regular flex - I have an average swing speed).
I’m just Joe Nobody, but I don’t know if handicap is a reliable gauge of whether or not these are good irons for you or not. I play with scratch golfers who use game improvement irons. Albeit, they’re generally a bit older and do so for the distance, however they still manage to work them left or right when needed. I just recently bought a combo set of these and the 7CBs. My primary miss is toe or low. The 770s do a fantastic job of maintaining efficiency on both of those misses. AskGolfNut has a video where he shows the drop off in efficiency for a variety of misses, and to me, it seems these irons could be played by anyone. I’d guess that most high handicappers are where they are because of a variety of issues including face control, chunks and thins, etc, and really, no club is going to fix those issues. In addition, they seem to have a really good launch from my experience so far, so even those with low club head speed or those who deloft a lot will still get these in the air due to the progressive CG as the clubs get longer. I’d say give them a try if I were you. I’m loving mine so far.
TaylorMade produced hollow-bodied irons back in the 90s, long before the P-Series or PXGs came out. I think some lesser-known companies have also done hollow body irons in the past.
These clubs look very pleasing to the eye, but knowing they have just accused Costco for copying the p790 in the Kirklands, these look remarkably like the old version of titleist t100s. Just saying
@@cuonghong1986 i was suggesting, having not heard about a release other than the day before that did they push the new irons to get the jump on Callaway who have dated their release for the 12th of Aug
Well, this is probably the best example of a video where the claim is absolutely not true. I hit these today and lost 20-25% of my distance with my current irons. Very frustrated at all these videos claiming how good they are yet you go and hit them and it's simply not true. They are players irons, period.
What irons did you play before. There’s a lot more that goes into it than just the heads my guy. Shaft, loft etc. gotta give more info before you crap on the clubs.
As usual the title is dumb and doesn't make sense. Of course the 770's aren't "The best forgiving irons ever made." They are literally a players iron. There are hundreds upon hundreds of other players, and players distance irons that are more forgiving.
I got my set. They're absolutely stunning. And the feel off the face, from a Long time mizuno irons player... feels like a mizuno....
I have the P770 2021 Edition and they are the best clubs I have ever played.
What shafts are you using?
N.S. Pro, 1150GH, Tour, S
KBS extra stiff shaft and best feeling clubs I’ve ever played with too can’t fault them

So you’re okay giving up 20 yards off the tee?
Hi could you tell me how much has tech development come on between these and the old burner 09 irons I’d be interested in your thoughts

Love the new design, looking forward to seeing them in person
Fantastic review James and the look 🔥

Love the look of these.
I’d love to have a set I just won’t pay $1400 for a set of irons when I can get 90-95% of the performance and looks for $500-$600.
More like 99.5%
Buy the previous version not a chance are they any different
Exactly. Some of the older irons feel better to me.
I know TM made some hollow-bodied irons in the 90s, but I'd say PXG is the OG of what we know today to be a HB iron.
I had a TM set from the 80’s that were hollow.
Nice irons but I'm looking forward to the P-7 CB review, which are the best looking irons I've seen in a while.
What range of handicap golfers are the P770 aimed to, would you say?
The type with 1500 to spend.

Do these launch like rockets like the p790. Just less offset and better feel?
Do these also have a satin finish
They look stunning but price will be the talking point 😊

Takomo 101t custom $618.00 for the win
That wouldn’t be apples to apples. The 201s would be a better comparison! Regardless they’re to overpriced! 1500 for irons is Ludacris!
@DMKFACTOR the 101T's are the perfect comparison as they are hollow body like the 770's. 201's are cavity back.

Hollow body since the 90s

I think they look like the Kirkland signatures a great value set of clubs😂😂
Must have been a price increase you didn't say what the new cost was. Sticker shock. Well done though Bobbie.
They look hard to hit if you are hitting toes and heels what chance would I have as a high handicapper.
None. Now go to your room.
They look strikingly like takomos which are less than have the price and just as much a quality club.
I’ll never pay $1400 for a set of irons, when I can get some Maltby TS1 IM for $600

I'd like them too if I got them free.
Not a fan of that bar going across. Gives it a weird look imo.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like “forgiving” is a stretch, when most of the people watching this likely can’t break 90…….

Stick to my Wilson’s as good for half the price
