When the form is bad but the farm vibes are good

- The weather is fairly broken at the moment and it's doing nothing for morale around the yard. But there's a few positive vibes hidden in places too. And there's an update on the milking cows plan.
Could recommend Alan Watts enough if you're ever wondering what it's all about: • Video
Love watching your vids. Straight out n no bullshit, it is what is..
The work very lovely work
Proud of you
Good job keep it up
Those "ferns" that are creeping out into your field are bracken, and the quicker and harder you knock those back, the better. They are invasive little swines.
Look after the swallows, numbers are way down, i have only one pair this year normally 8-10. Egyptians catching them and selling to china .
What part of Ireland do you live it is very nice and green it is winter here in Tasmania so just be pleased for small mercys it is very wet and cold here
Fair play its a big step. I thought they weren't taking on any more new ppl in to milk.
Will milk improve ur lifestyle a big change in life for u. If ur heart is in it go for it but u don't see to many dairy lads wit time to spare
Stick to what you are at Kieran and keep improving your stock, the good times in milk are well over
If you think its worthwhile go for it, id love to do it myself but a little bit differently, id like to go organic and supply glenisk milking 24 cows twice a day, i have this crazy plan in my head i think ive thought of everything, and covered every base just need the magic money now and its good to go
That’s what banks and Credit Unions are for 😂 Best of luck if you go for it. Keep us informed 👍
Always interesting to watch. 😊👍👍 How many cows would you have to milk to make it worthwhile?
That’s the big question. I could milk 50-60 on the ground I have so loan repayments and a wage would need to come out of that. Trying to figure out cost of extra slurry storage at the moment
MashAllah
Indonesian 🇮🇩
I am interested to work there🙏
How many units do you think you could fit there and would milk truck have any issues collecting at that location? Looks like a good plan.
It’d be 8 units. The milk tank would be collecting milk from in front of the shed. There’s silage bales there now but it’d be east to find another place to keep them
Want to buy an eight unit dairy master? In every day use as they say, currently milking 140 through it and will have 160 for next year all going according to plan anyway, bought a new 16 unit yesterday and hope to have it ready by next February.
Thanks for the offer. If I go ahead with cows I’ll give you a shout
You keep picking out the Limousin as the best cattle in the groups and then say you'll stick to the Hereford and Angus Kieran 😪🤣
LM, AA, or HE - that’s all I’m buying from now on. I should have mentioned the LM in the same breath. They’ve left the most few quid after them here
How about retail sales of milk from the farm as organic. Conventional farming does not work, hence need for off farm job.
I'd rule nothing out. But from what I can gather the market for organic is fairly small. I've done some homework on "raw milk" and trying to make butter and cheese from a few litres of that while the rest of the milk goes to the co-op. I'd be aiming to sell to restaurants more than consumers. But it's all easy at this stage where everything seems possible. The reality will be very different whatever we go at. I tried to sell lamb direct to consumers a few years ago but it wasn't worth the extra effort

Coffee shops swear by raw milk to enrich the coffee.
That’s interesting - I didn’t know that about coffee shops. And there’s plenty of them around to offer samples to. Thanks for that 👍
