    Just on where the cows are coming out Kieran, would you be better off putting the slot in the wall at both sides, at least then when you calve down in January or February and cows are still inside for that month or 2 you can keep the dry cows separate with a gate in between the 2 cubicle sheds

    • @ericosullivan4193
      @ericosullivan4193 4 місяці тому +1

      I was thinking the same thing it also would make it easier if you wanted separate a cow from the rest for what ever reason

    That’s a better way for cows to leave the parlour, less chance of slipping and you could put a drafting system there in the future.

    Was doing a hoof trimming course lately and the lads there were say they see more issues with cows feet where exits are to the left or right and less issues where they exit out the end of parlour. The cows on the row nearest the exit have a tighter turn to make and are spinning around on their hind feet more than the cows on the other side and they are creatures of habit and the same cows will nearly always be on the same side. Just thought it might be of interest to you but it might not suit to have an exit out the end

    Great to see the progress, let the hair down at the wedding and have a session , god knows we all need a blowout every now and again

    Good decision going left , get a simple drafting system set up at the door to get yourself going , I wouldn’t put in stall work or a parlor at 3 foot spacing I think they are a bad job and I would prefer 2 foot 6 personally so be carefull what you are buying if buying a seccond hand machine . I would build the pit as long as possable and leave room for a few extra units so as an extension is easy down the line not to be busting concrete and changing things I’ve never met a man who left space for more units that regretted it

      @jerryryan8769 4 місяці тому +2

      Also I would be more likely to go with a passage down the middle of that paddock and not down by the ditch , you could have long narrow paddocks otherwise and could be difficult to get to the back of them in a wet spring and if it’s exposed in the middle of the paddock it will dry out quick with the wind and not be getting sheltered by the trees and leaves falling on it in autumn creating a mess also you would want nice curves through the roadway not sharp right angles 👍

    Good idea to hav an option of the cows goin straight out during summer or back to the shed during the winter. U dont want cows goin thru the shed during summer

    For keep the place clean and less water the catch I would put the exit inside. And you will have the scrapers to keep it clean.
