      It has happened. And remember he isn't legally labeled anything but innocent until the courts find him guilty of the murders so it wasn't given to a criminal. It can't be a PR nightmare because they didn't bring a felon in from prison.

    I have had two organ transplants. Before my first transplant I was a vegetarian. My donor was a heavy meat eater because he was a bodybuilder. After receiving his kidney, I couldn't stop eating meat. I mean, I couldn't even stop thinking about wanting to eat meat. I was obsessed with meat. I still am to this day.
    After I received my second transplant I obsessed over chips and crackers. I had never liked chips or crackers my entire life. In fact I was quite a picky eater. I eat chips and crackers every single day now. It was the first thing I wanted after my transplant. I didn't really put it together until recently. I had wondered if it was possible to be affected like that, but I really believe there's some truth to it.

      @@allisonhunter1063 in 1993 I had my first kidney transplant. It rejected after 10 years. In 2005 I received my second kidney transplant. I did not notice any emotional changes. Just food changes.
      You can ask me anything. I'm an open book when it comes to the subject because so many people misunderstand what organ donation is like, or being a transplant recipient means. I appreciate your curiosity.

      @@GigiMichelina Wow, I'm so glad you were able to get a match both times. My uncle had to get a partial liver transplant a few years ago. I haven't gotten to speak to him about it yet but would like to, I just don't know how willing to talk he will be. How old were you when you had the first one? Do you have to take anything besides anti rejection drugs? I've heard you have to take them daily for the rest of your life. Is that true? I'm signing up to be a bone marrow and stem cell donor.

    • @GigiMichelina
      @GigiMichelina 2 місяці тому

      @@allisonhunter1063 that's very kind of you to sign up for bone marrow donation. We do have to take daily drugs. In time, those medications cause other issues. I have a heart issue now. I truly feel that the majority of transplant recipients I have met feel happy to share their story. I bet it will make your uncle feel loved and cared about. A lot of people don't ask anything because they're worried about being too personal. It can be a lonely experience. Most of us love sharing, because we had to fight so hard to stay alive. My beautiful brave friend had a heart transplant 5 years ago. It's a long road to recovery, with a lifetime of meds and a lifetime of invasive and non-invasive checkups. She takes extremely good care of herself, so she is doing incredibly well, and no...there is no sense of the donor in any way. The heart saved her life, but there is no sense of the person who's heart she received. She desperately wanted to thank the donor's family, but she has no idea who the donor was, because the family did not want to be contacted, whoever they are.

    • @calleythompson2781
      @calleythompson2781 2 місяці тому +16

      In short: It's occasionally reported but mostly all in their head. Long: Like the Doc said it's anecdotal, but there are many stories of people who receive organ, especially heart, transplants and suddenly have a personality that more mirrors the donor. It's almost a trope in organ recipient support/community systems. Some of the limited but published research shows these changes aren't always explainable by chance or stress or drug side effects, though they often are. What kind of traits "transfer" and the intensity is also highly variable, and that sort of thing is hard to objectively measure anyway, plus there is no recognized potential mechanism for the transfer, so most Doctors and researchers treat any personality changes as psychosomatic or a drug response.

      As was said in the clip, it's purely anecdotal evidence at this point. People give it a scientific-sounding name to lend more credence to the claim that it's real and provable. Unfortunately, while a fascinating idea, it is not supported by science at this time.
      I don't agree with the implication of the other person's reply that the supposed phenomena is "all in their head." Technically, every theory starts off as in the heads of people either experiencing it or studying it. There's always a very minute possibility that a correlation has simply not been found YET.
      Having said that, as a geek for science that needs evidence of correlation, I will still maintain that it has only psychological implications. Despite the societal use of the heart as a metaphor or symbol for love, our emotions and the things that bring us joy and such comes from brains and has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with our heart. That fact alone makes the argument against this idea pretty moot.
