What wasn’t said in this clip is that, without any reproductive organs to produce testosterone or estrogen, the kid’s growth and development would be stunted; especially once they entered puberty. The poor kid would be forced to take crucial hormone supplements for the rest of their life, whether they chose to be a boy or a girl.

@@herenaakuma85 Citation needed. Puberty blockers were used long-term for ages to treat cisgender children with precocious puberty, but they suddenly become an issue when used for trans kids? Bullshit.
@lydia-r6ido you realize that geneticists and other biologists are well aware that there are more than two sexes just as sociologists know that there’s more than two genders. You think that you’re backing up science but science disagrees. Plus blocking puberty is blocking puberty. Your body doesn’t sit there and think, “Okay, this child started puberty too young so I’ll work for her but this youth wants to stave off puberty for a few years so I’m going to mess them up.” The end result is blocking puberty and the meds don’t care at all why it’s being done.
Differences in sex development (DSD) can be different from each other. Intersex variations are diverse and not all are easy to identify. To my understanding, most actually aren't.
The one in House had a different but similar condition. That one would never develop make traits because the testosterone could not affect her. I'm not sure what this kid has that allows testosterone to only be produced in puberty instead of activating male traits in gestation and beyond, but if they can react to the androgens at all, it's a different condition.
Love that last chunk of wisdom- “that’s the exciting part, having our kids show us who they are in their own time.” As a parent there’s always gonna be a plan for who we’d like our kids to become, but that’s the beauty of creating another human with endless possibilities for their future. ❤
The child isn't becoming anyone she is herself, an intersex individual. It's physical and congenital not social. People nowadays actually have a strange need for other people to be easy to categorise but in the past when surviving was harder, people just got on with their lives and just accepted the reality of a situation without needing to lump others into similar types.
@@CandiceGoddard”people just got on with their lives” 😂 tell me you know nothing about how history treated people different from the “norm” without telling me. No, people did not just “get on with their lives”
Thankfully the doctors managed to convince her to allow them to stay in. Was fully thinking this would go the other way to satisfy the mother's need for traditional gender roles and (re)living through her child.
The mother is trying to manipulate their child so she can get what they want being that they stay as a girl. Hearing the mother talk over the doctors while they are trying to explain the process is frustrating but in the end it's nice to see that she changed her mind for her child's sake Edit: Had to change the it seems part of this since it's pretty clear of what the mother is doing
Well, she's the mother. The parent. It's her child. I was good friends with a girl who had the same condition. Sadly, she never underwent surgery to have them removed and ended up with such struggles that she took her own life at 32, I miss her dearly 😢. Not an easy situation
@YourRandomBAD I fully agree with you, Regardless of the choice made, it's a case to case type of situation, what applies to one will not necessarily apply to another, a very tough, hazardous, painful situation indeed. I do remember vividly we were strictly forbidden to ever bring up the subject to anyone, anywhere, anytime. Zero therapy, 100% sense of guilt, confusion and shame.
U obviously aren't a parent. Unless u are then u believe a child should have a mindset of their own. Children don't get to make medical decisions that's the parents job. I am so sick of doctors saying it's a child decision regardless of their age is bullshit to me.
I'm glad her mother decided not to take them out and let it be Emma's choice down the line. Because what the mother and most parents don't consider when they rush to "take out" the thing that's makes someone intersexed is that you are essentially sterilizing the child before they hit puberty. So there's no hormones at all and that alone is detrimental. Depending on if they identify as either sex they'll need hormone replacement therapy for the rest of their lives. And will never be able to have their own children later.
Mother: *talks over the doctors so she can confuse her daughter into making the choice she wants* also mother when the doctors explain the part she doesnt like: YOU'RE CONFUSING HER!!!
@Lady_Amelia-Eloise Children will grow into adults, and it's the child that has to live with that body. The doctors explained that most people with that medical condition identify as men after puberty. Removing organs that can be saved in light of that information is especially egregious. A mom cannot change a child's internal sense of gender, she can only protect her child's choice. Which in this case means leaving the tesicles, and talking to Emma as she grows.
@@Lady_Amelia-Eloise a child has a right over their autonomy. If it’s a child that was born a male or female that’s different. Most of the time these children will use hormone blockers to stop the process of development and wait to see if the child wants to transition. This is a case of her child having two sets of organs which is not fatal to the child making this an optional surgery which is the daughter choice. She is intersex, and you as a parent can leave the organs until they’re of age to say if they want to keep them or not.
It's important for intersex children to know what's going on in their body. _Nobody_ should change anything until they're of legal age and are capable of making these decisions for themselves. It's their right. I wish parents, teachers and other guardians and caregivers would just leave children alone and stop messing up their heads by talking about things they don't need to worry about. That goes for all children...
Yup. Personally it makes me damn mad that someone else gets to decide ANYTHING about an intersex child's body. Just don't touch anything that's not yours!!! I understand that those underdeveloped testies or ovaries are at high risk of developing cancer. But seriously! Run the tests, be on your doctor's watchlist and all - but keep them as long as you can, until that kid is old enough to decide what to do with them! Intersex conditions are complex, the child's gender identity and expression may change with time. They also may never be able to decide one way or the other. But what they definitely don't need is for someone else to decide that for them! That's abuse! And if you push the docs to cut things out - it's also mutilation! Trying to forcefully "socialize" kids into any gender identity should be a crime! RIP, David Reimer, we remember the lessons your life and your brother's life taught us. And we're sorry that we let your abuser's philosophy take our society over😢

Exactly so. I'm raising my own daughter (thus far, as she's never expressed any interest in being a boy though she knows that we can talk about anything no matter what) this way. My own mother did not so I know the alternative outcome.
Maybe but maybe not. She got used to having a girl. It's hard to reconcile having a boy instead. Or both or neither. The world tells us it must be one or the other not both or neither.
It’s always the person who it’s affecting’s decision. Always. They will have to live with it for the rest of their life. Their mother? The next ten years.
Im pretty sure the mother gets affected for the rest of her life too. With dealing with potential consequences of making such a decision and being involved with her child even she's an adult.
Yeah the mother only has to live with it until the child goes NC 👻 the child lives with the consequences their whole life. This is why it's no good when people placate themselves/their peers by claiming it's just a generational rebellion "trend" or mobile phone brain rot that makes grown children do this. It makes parents not take the inevitable consequences of their actions seriously while there's still time to choose a different course in the relationship they build with their child.
After all that, the child STILL didn’t get to choose. No one ever explained anything to her or gave her the options. The show acted like it was a win to do what the doctor thought was best. It wasn’t. Maybe Emma would have wanted them removed. Maybe she will end up with severe dysphoria when she hits puberty. This is not what medical autonomy looks like! I believe the child has some form of androgen insensitivity syndrome, which is an intersex condition. This scenario kinda reminds me of a similar situation in House MD where a teen model was found to have this kind of condition.
This would be different compared to this House case. In the teen supermodel case, her body was entirely insensitive to testosterone although she was genetically male. I think she ended up having testicular cancer, right?
Yea I remember watching some documentary about a real case. The child was raised as a boy and something happened showing that the little boy had two ovaries inside that never fully formed. It was so sad honestly because it made me think what if other people really do have this more than they realize. But I can’t remember what happened with the child but I think the parents let them choose what they wanted to be
But in this case the child doesn't have both parts. Externally female, internally not female but has testicles and will go through only some of male puberty. That's gonna be hella confusing as a teen and adult.
@windycityliz7711 still let the child decide. You may find out your decision was a bad one. Some things like this and religion should be decided by the child when they are ready. This should not be the parents choice.

It is impossible to remove chromosomes (individuals can be born missing some or having extra though). And while cases like what is shown (the sex of the body not presenting as the chromosomes would suggest) are rare, they are not entirely unheard of. Some people go until adulthood until they find out that they are genetically the opposite sex. It is more common for genetically male individuals to present as female as well since both genders develop the same way and it is they Y chromosome that signals for the body to develop male organs during fetal development.
Read a story called the "X-Virus" by Lisa James sometime. Another story that was similar to that was one called "The Virus" by Jackie_em. I know they are both FICTIONAL stories, but there was an article on SEX-CHANGED MICE from nearly a decade ago and it reminded me of those 2 stories. So maybe not in this day-and-age...but somewhere in the near future, it could be possible.
Intersex conditions are much more common than any of us know. It’s something like 1% of people have an intersex condition. That’s the same amount of people who have red hair. Parents like this are insufferable. They don't treat their children like complex human beings; they just want them to be perfect little dolls they have manipulate and shape how they want, and when something happens that "ruins" this fantasy they do whatever they can to fix their vision of control, instead of doing whats medically and psychologically best for the kid.
Wooow this was so well done. The depiction of a resistant parent and the child unable to understand the ramifications was so believable and true to life. I felt bad for all of them not having time to process and educate
This is why the child should be left alone about the things they want to be until they're of an age they can make a properly Informed decision. They're not parents personal baby doll to be treated as whatever gender they wished. This is what messes kids up.
Or people can stop messing with kids heads and let them have an untainted childhood. Parents should be allowed to decide their child's medical care, at least until they are 13 when kids are old enough to actually understand. Kids should be informed, but until they reach a certain age the parents should have the final say
@@TimberlakeTigerGirl I dont entirely agree, because at the end of the day, some of the people trying to push the same stuff ARE the parents. This tends to be especially true if they were the kinds that believe YOU owe THEM for being born
Whether the child chose to live as male or female theyd have a rough go of it. Taking away the childs say in that is the worst thing you could do. People know who they are long betofre they are able to articulate it. The mother is wrong and projecting, beforehand. Period.
There is an actual case of 17β-Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase III deficiency that concerns a similar situation. Not exact, but an Australian child known as "Carla." In that case, the hospital was actually taking the opposite stance. The child, 5, was showing male gonadal development. As such, the hospital under the consent of the guardian was subject to labioplasty and other invasive surgeries to enhance the child's female primary sex characteristics. Of course, this lead to the sterilization of the child. This has been widely decried as needlessly invasive and in some cases compared to torture by human rights groups, and legal analysts.
The title on this is absurd. There is a Y chromosome in every cell in her body (which contains chromosomes). It should read “testicles,” not “chromosomes.”
Those testicles would’ve been the last chance that her child ever had of having children of her own… it may not be ideal that she would be a father… but it is legitimately the last chance that she would ever have of having her own genetic children… and her mom wants to take that away because she wanted to have a little girl😡 because SHE wanted to have a girl… parents are so selfish
Right, it was the child's to inform their parent how they feel. The doctors gave that space to Emma so their mother didn't decide her child's gender identity. No one can choose who you are.
It isn’t the parents’ choice either. If you aren’t going to accept your kid no matter what, don’t have them. Does someone know if there is a medical condition that works like that ? I find this scenario weird : if the mutation made it for her not be able to synthesise testosterone, how would it synthesise during puberty ?
Perhaps it means less testosterone throughout their life. So Emma appears female, but later on, there will be just enough testosterone for that to change during puberty?
I saw a documentary on PBS about a whole community where many people spontaneously, physically change gender at puberty. Science was over my head but, since it's not extraordinary for the people in this village, everyone just goes with it. 🥰

At least the child was diagnosed immediately compared to an older patient from the episode of "House."

Yes, but she also unfortunately dealt with a bad father who "adored" her beauty in a sick manner.😔

I'm glad her mother decided not to take them out and let it be Emma's choice down the line. Because what the mother and most parents don't consider when they rush to "take out" the thing that's makes someone intersexed is that you are essentially sterilizing the child before they hit puberty.

CRISPR is a helluva thing, but I'm not sure its advanced enough to give someone Turner syndrome...not sure why you'd want to do that anyway.
I don't think it would ever be feasible to do that in any creature with millions of cells. Possibly a blastocyst, and certainly a fertilized egg. Then again, they mislabled just what is being proposed to be removed or changed about the child.
I love the girl who put the thing on the girls belly❤
So yeah
The mother working to make sure the kid grows up normal. I can see why the TQ+ brigade are raging 😂
Giving kids autonomy is apparently a bad thing
I get where the mom is coming from. I mean honk of how traumatic that is for the daughter to go through when going her whole life believing she was a girl.
It's unbelievable how all these medical shows have at least one rogue doctor that does what they please without any regard for ethics, rules, and protocols. And the worst part? They never get fired. I would sue that doctor from here to eternity until she lost her license and her ability to practice anywhere if she did this to my child. She had absolutely no right to make that decision even against the ethics committee. Heck, even the shrink who was also fond of breaking rules on occasion was being level-headed in this episode.
That rear but no unheated of
wow 🤩
Does someone know if there is a medical condition that works like that ? I find this scenario weird : if the mutation made it for her not be able to synthesise testosterone, how would it synthesise during puberty ?
Perhaps it means less testosterone throughout their life. So Emma appears female, but later on, there will be just enough testosterone for that to change during puberty?
I saw a documentary on PBS about a whole community where many people spontaneously, physically change gender at puberty. Science was over my head but, since it's not extraordinary for the people in this village, everyone just goes with it. 🥰
Cleveland clinic has a nice little article, google "androgen insensitivity." TV shows want to raise ratings and sell advertising, so show the most hysterical version of any medical event.
It would synthetize the same way all hormones do, by being released by the brain. In this case, it would release a higher amount of testosterone than an endosex girl has on average when they hit puberty.
@@patmaurer8541back in the day on TV saw Guinness world records TV show had a family of all girl kids about 10 of them but at puberty were found to be all boys...maybe the same village?
Im pretty sure Chromosomes cant be removed anyway
So it never said anything about the rest of the organs. Are those female or male? Unless the kid didn’t develop either, mom should’ve had to know already. Besides, without one or the other, how does the kid urinate??
hi! I am here to inform about intersex people ( im not an expert on the Matter so anyone is free to correct me)
In 2:48 It said that her external organ is female so there was no ways of finding out that she was intersex (besides that if the external organs had been male im pretty sure she would have lived as a male you know what I mean?) and as they said until puberty they couldnt have known.
Now, I searched about the urente part and It said that an intersex persone Will urinete throught wichever organ the ureter ends at. , since every single case is different.
Hope It helps
I would have thought she had complete androgen insensitivity syndrome, which presents the exact same way only the body is immune to the testosterone.
"I will not let you manipulate her"
How ironic then that she persuaded the child into saying what she wanted the girl to say, or in other words, manipulated. The doctors were just trying to explain the situation so as to make the child understand to the best of their abilities while the mother kept interrupting and trying to talk the child into giving assent that was in line with the mother's thoughts on the matter.
Also, a lesson here is: DON'T INTERRUPT DOCTORS EXPLAINING THINGS, LET THEM FINISH UNTIL YOU SPEAK
Oh, and at least the mother took it back and would let decision regarding removal or not be left to the child til AFTER the medical emergency was taken care of since they're not causing any other problems at present beside the torsion
The fact that she’s trying to convince the mother not to have the organ removed is dumb, it’s not her choice it’s the mothers, if the mother wants the surgery then legally as doctors they have to abide by the mothers wish
ah yeah forcing your spawn into a position where they have to take hormones for the rest of their life by removing the only organs their body has that produces the hormones. that's a good way to have a kid never talk to you again, lol.
Still that decision should include the daughter as well. Just because it’s a kid doesn’t mean they don’t have autonomy
With androgen insensitivity, the body converts the testosterone into estrogen so she'll be fine.
*This is what's going on in Bollywood and Hollywood!*
They asked a doctor if he’s a boy she confirmed why they still calling him a girl when from a biological doctor he’s a boy
Why are you calling her a him? She doesn't use he/him pronouns, she doesn't present or identify as male in this video. And the doctors don't advocate for her to identify either way, just whatever way she wants to identify.
How come this woman doesn't know what happens in puberty? Bit weird
Maybe rewatch the video. She thought she had a biological daughter with all that comes with. But she wasn't aware her child was intersex and thus didn't know exactly what that would mean come puberty.
This is what IAF wanted Caster Seymene to do to qualify for women's events.
so the kid is intersex right ? they didn't run her dnd to check just said probably ...
Thats not how chromosomes work😂
I'd have to go to a different hospital
The video title is BS.
Clickbait.
(Or maybe whoever uploaded the video doesn't know what chromosomes are?)

child autonomy is good and bad. I don't get it fully. but if a child had the choice, they would want to eat ice cream for all meals and stay up at night. if they are comfortable with that, how can they be comfortable making a decision on something they know nothing about. there concern is it not hurting. while at the same time if you leave it up to the child they could hold resentment you down the road or the parent can look at that like they made there choices knowing good and well they had NO clue what they are choosing.
The child could also hold resentment for having the choice taken away from them. So long as there’s no risk to the child they should stay as they were born unless there is medical reasoning to do otherwise.
Comparing eating ice cream to a child's personal identity...😅😅😅😅😅
