- Suzuki South Africa hosted the very first Suzuki Jimny Gathering in Clarens. It was held over Heritage Day weekend and it was one eventful weekend!

I had the privilege to drive the all-new Suzuki Jimny 5-Door, from Durban to the event which was held in Clarens. The Jimny Gathering was held on Langkranz Farm just outside of Clarens. On the farm, they had a campsite which I was told held 380 Jimny's. Friday night they held a silent disco at the campsite entertainment area with a large braai pir for everyone to enjoy.
Saturday started with a small 12km 4x4/scenic route over the farm and through the mountains. It was a beautiful route and the scenery in this area is absolutely beautiful! The route was fairly easy, but it gave us a good test of the new 5-door Jimny. The Gathering then moved on into the town of Clarens itself. In the town square was the Suzuki Town Festival, where various artists performed throughout the day. The whole town of Clarens was overrun by Jimny's wherever you look!
Sunday was the main Gathering day. We were back on the Langkranz Farm where all the Jimny's who came to the event, stayed outside or in the town and from the campsite, all came together. Almost 800 Suzuki Jimny's were parked here. It was now time to break a Guinness World Record for the most headlights switched on simultaneously. It was an unbelievable sight to see and congratulations to Suzuki South Africa for successfully breaking the record and holding a new Guinness World Record.
It was a great event and it just shows how great the Jimny Community is represented in South Africa!
As for the 5-door Suzuki Jimny. It is fairly similar to the 3-door, with only some slight exterior modifications, however, the biggest change is the length of the wheelbase. The wheelbase is now 340mm longer, which helps add the extra door and also makes the boot bigger. The vehicle also feels a lot more stable than the 3-door. Less wobble on the open road and less bumpy on the offroad. More space is very helpful, but with the same engine capacity, overloading the vehicle and engine is more likely. I would personally still pick the 5-door over the 3-door Jimny, for the main reason of space.
Let me know what you think of the new 5-door Jimny and if you were at the event, let me know how you experienced it!

Proud to be the owner of one (5 doors).
Very cool! What's your experience/opinion of it?
@@DieterPey definitely loving it. It's a small power house. The size is loveable. Built for lifestyle utility.
Which components are made in India and which ones are made in Japan?
@@nonamenosurname8694 5 doors is made in india, 3 doors in japan.
@@nonamenosurname8694 The 5-door will be built in India, while the 3-door will be built in Japan.
good review! this is the first time im seeing a chiffon colored 5 door jimny! thank you.
Thanks! - This is very first batch in South Africa, so I don't think there are many been made yet!
Nice little update Dieter! Well narrated keep these coming!
Thanks Tim!
I always thought how would a 5door one be and would you look at that.. now it could make sense to many that couldnt justify the 2 door original.
Many Jimny owners came to look at the vehicle and asked about it. It was an interesting split between people who loved it and other who still preferred the 3-door. Only time will tell on how popular the 5-door will become.
same! the 3 door looks great but I couldn't justify it for its price and for my use. I have things and sometimes passengers, the 5 door makes sense to me but I get why the 3 door is still popular for a niche group of people, it's very unique! but im now sold on the 5 door
waiting for a Jimny with a 2.0L or 2.4L Toyota engine with bigger fuel tank. Maybe in 10 years
Did you notice any difference in build quality with the new Indian built 5 door?
Not at all, build quality feels good. I would say beter than some other, way more expensive brands I've tested.
Did you perhaps notice any indication of the amount of airbags in this 5door? Previous reports stated it was likely to have 6..?
I didn't pay attention to that sorry.
It's 6 airbags. I have the 5 doors.
Ah thanks for the answer! 👏
@@summers9218 in which country? Its not the same everywhere unfortunately
