To answer the question that you posed at the end, I was told by 64 Audio that the quality difference going from the A3t to the A6t is dramatic. Stepping up to the A12t from the A6t is also a very nice step up. They said the jump from the A12t to the A18t is a bit of diminished returns. It's better, but not as noticeably so as the step up from the other models.
They also said that the sound source of what you plug the A18t into is a bit more sensitive.
