Glorious Sons are from Kingston, Ontario. Kingston is best known as the hometown of the Tragically Hip, Canada's favourite band. RIP Gord Downie, lead singer who died of brain cancer a few years ago.
The Hip left a major gap in that Canadian rock "voice" for the nation. For Americans who are unaware, they were huge in Canada for like 25-30 years and their music spoke on tons of Canadian issues and they sung a lot about Canadiana and those who were wronged or didn't have a voice. Gord Downie was kind of like a Canadian Johnny Cash in that when he spoke and used his platform, people listened. The whole they left can't be filled by one band, but different aspects can be filled with other bands. Like the Glorious Sons or Arkells who toured with the Hip extensively or The Sheepdogs on the West Coast and Matt Mays on the East Coast.
Omg YES! MORE people need to be talking about Glorious Sons. I’ve seen them 3 times up here in the Toronto area. These guys are very well known and played in this area. I’ve been a huge fan around 2015. Absolute real, raw, authentic ROCK N’ ROLL. Killer. Thanks for doing this.
Goddam I love the Sons. I’ve seen them with my wife 3 times now and every single time they have killed it. In my opinion, they have NO bad songs. One of the few bands I can put on any of their albums and not skip a song. Rock and Roll like this makes me proud to be Canadian. Check out their songs Mama, Shapeless Art, The Union, Josie, Heavy, My Poor Heart. Aww, man, just put on any of their albums and be amazed!
Love them! Saw them in 2015 in Kitchener Ontario Canada (about an hour from Toronto) with Monster Truck, Jane's Addiction and Soundgarden... That was a good day.
On one of their tours, the singer was just wearing clothes that people in the audience threw on stage at the shows. My friend also saw them at a bar and the singer came outside after the gig and continued an encore just acoustic outside. Awesome
Holy shit, yes! There's a lot of Canadian bands that don't get enough support to make it internationally. My big three would be Big Wreck (you've seen at least two of their videos), and I Mother Earth and The Tea Party. One more that sadly dropped off the map is Nathan McNevin and the Silence Factory.
So true. Ive loved I Mother Earth since I saw them at the Acadia University student union building in 1995 or 96. One More Astronaut is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Great reaction Michael! Glorious Sons are awesome! "Heavy" was the first song of theirs that got me hooked. Also loved "Mama", both have different sounds, but both rock! They have many other great songs that came after, but those got me. They are great live!
I went to the concert in Winnipeg and you were either 25 or 50 and everyone was seriously invested. So great to have a another great Canadian rock band! Love these guys.
The guy, clearly in his 50's, singing along to the song with as much gusto as the 14 year old girl on the shoulders of someone else in the crowd. That tells me I should take the time to look into these guy's.
I'm in my 50's and too my twenty something year old to see them 4 times earlier this year and once more next week, check out Young Beautues and Fools and A War On Everything and and and :D
Have seen them 3 times so far with my daughter. They are high energy, with great music band. They have a multi generation following. The younger generation get to see what it was like for my generation of rock and heavy metal 80’s and early 90’s. Awesome show. Great time.
I live in Kingston and am thus quite aware of their popularity. I got distinct Tragically Hip (also from Kingston and beloved) vibes watching this. Front Man forward and odd sound scape sketching. Very good.
I highly suggest going to see 🇨🇦 The Glorious Sons🇨🇦 rock out in person. The energy is addictive. The music is magic. The people are united. The vibe is real. ✌️🧡😊
So this song actually brought me back to the Glorious Sons. I absolutely loved their early stuff, and, although I've not verified this, it almost appeared that they either had another producer come in, or they were singing someone else's songs. And it got a little weird for me. I heard this song though, and looked to see who actually wrote it, and was quite pleased. Glad to be back!!!
All of our problems ARE self-made… and they are SUPPOSED to be! The magic is when you notice that and you get free for a bit. Revel in it. Forget about the stuckness, just revel in the remembering and FREEDOM that comes from the remembering! Love it. Michael you are a good man. Keep doing your thing! Alan.
WOW. What a dream!!! A crowd of all ages and backgrounds is singing your lyrics. Ultimate. So awesome. Thank you, again, for a unique music/guitar channel.
thanks for this @Michael I became a big fan after seeing them live the first time. I have seen live 19 times so far this year alone with 4 more shows lined up next week to finish up the year 2022.....lots of live Glorious Sons concert videos on my UA-cam channel with more to come...... there Guitarist Chris Koster if a big fan of Prince FYI
My first introduction to this awesome band was through a SiriusXM studio live version of My Poor Heart, and they just blew me away. And absolutely, the crowd being so into this performance makes it that much better.
So glad someone suggested TGS. Such a great band that you need to see live to really appreciate. Anything you find on youtube is worthy for a listen, but here's a more upbeat one I suggest checking out next: ua-cam.com/video/LJd7hIooSJg/v-deo.html
Michael, yes I heard some of that harmonic dissonance. It kind of bugs my brain, but I do love this song - it hits a primal chord of desiring love and peace. And, as usual, I love your overview, commentary on the music. And, yes, another Canadian band - so good! And you know when a song is great when it gives you 'the tingles".
The Glorious Sons are awesome! Their album The Union is the only thing my boyfriend and I can actually agree on listening to in the car. They have also opened for The Rolling Stones! Your videos are great, down the rabbit hole I go!
Saw GS open for The Struts in Pittsburgh a couple years ago, they had me hooked from the first chord. Another great "rock is coming back" band is Dirty Honey, take your pick...they don't have a bad song.
I just found this channel and will dig into it. Thanks Michael! Can you take a look at ocean billy by umphreys McGee? Great version from St Louis on their yt channel...
Hey Michael! The Glorious Sons are from my hometown, Kingston, Ontario. I was at this very show at Richardson Stadium a few years back. Jay Emmons and his younger brother Brett are long time family friends of mine. Jay is about one year younger than I am. We used to be neighbours in the same subdivision. We used to play road hockey together in the driveway years ago. They’re good guys for sure. I hope you’re well, my guy. 🤘🏽
Michael, love the channel and new subscriber! I found you through Tyler Childers reactions and really want to hear your take on Tyler’s first hit Coal! Looking forward to more content
Brett went to University in Atlantic Canada but they are from Kingston Ontario. Brett came up with the song 'White Noise' on flight back to join the band, his brothers band,
great reaction they are a fantastic band check out Jesse Roper another great Canadian Talent saw him open for big wreck a few years back he was awesome.
TGS really are an amazing band. I feel like they are to Canadian Gen Y/Gen Z as the Tragically Hip are to Canadian Gen X. And also from Kingston. I’ve only had the chance to see them live twice. Both amazing shows. Here’s another great live performance of theirs: ua-cam.com/video/xMz806onf_w/v-deo.html Love your channel. Keep doing what you do.
Don't know how this band isn't massive around the world. That singer can write and most importantly can absolutely SING.
The lyrics are a group effort usually

I saw these guys 8 years ago before they hit it big. Opened up for the trews in a bar. Best $22 I ever spent

The Glorious Sons have an amazing fan base. The audience was hearing this song LIVE for the first time at this show. Definitely the real deal!

Took the kids on a staycation during covid and came across this tune. Had the same immediate reaction. This is real. This is raw. This is good.

Glorious Sons formed in Kingston, Ont. Home of the Tragically Hip. Awesome.

Love it. Michael you are a good man. Keep doing your thing! Alan.
I saw these guys open for Welshley Arms at the Brighton Music Hall in Boston. Awesome show!
This show is in their hometown of Kingston, Ontario. That is part of the reason the audience is so invested.

Amazing and very under rated band!!!,
So glad to watch your face as you experience Brett Emmerson with Glorious Son's. It's like where has this truth been hiding. Hope you've seen Dream.
My first introduction to this awesome band was through a SiriusXM studio live version of My Poor Heart, and they just blew me away. And absolutely, the crowd being so into this performance makes it that much better.

So long honey by CAAMP
By and By by CAAMP
Good folk band think you would enjoy! Also buying a guitar and will be joining guitar gate!
Yet another Canadian band that is brutally under-played. Proud of the Canadian music scene!
Just put it in the reacts requests, but some more good ol canadian boys in Alexisonfire should be in your rotation.
Saw GS open for The Struts in Pittsburgh a couple years ago, they had me hooked from the first chord. Another great "rock is coming back" band is Dirty Honey, take your pick...they don't have a bad song.

Not nearly as good as this, but "Sawed Off Shotgun" was the first song I ever heard from them. Definite radio anthem
They have just a little bit of a War on Drugs vibe. Love it.
