OH, I'm so glad you're shining a light on Gabe Lee!! He is my absolute favorite! Reminds me a LOT of John Prine in his style and songwriting! I knew you'd love him!
What I love is watching you being blown away in the first 30 seconds the way all of us fell in love with Gabe Lee. He is one of my favorite current artists and easily one of the most I knew I would listen to him for the rest of my life from that first 30 seconds.
I don't play the guitar, and yet I don't miss a video. I love how excited you get over the talent and it introduces me to great music that I might otherwise never hear. Cheers
You can start playing any time! Even if you're not the most creative person in the world, playing music unlocks something in you no matter the skill level. IMO, everyone should have to at least take beginner lessons on some instrument. Having the internet at your fingertips you can learn anytime. Just get a 100$ squire strat starter pack from Guitar Center.
Michael - thanks for doing my request! Glad more people will get to hear Gabe. I should also point out that the dobro player is Lucciana Costa of the duo King Margo.
I’ve watched this probably 100 times! Your analogy of it was spot on and exactly what I was feeling! Thank you Michael, Stephen that submitted it and Gabe for blessing us with it…truly amazing!
I absolutely love Gabe! Both farmland and Honky Tonk Hell are excellent albums. I was stoked when Grady named one of them his album of the year a while back. He deserves a lot more attention than he gets.
He would be honored to hear he reminds you of his inspiration. Gabe is the sweetest guy and the world is sleeping on him. Listen to his song Lyra if you haven’t yet!
I saw him in Dallas a couple months ago with King Margo as his supporting band. Man they were great and Gabe was such a nice guy. So glad you found him!
A quick backstory on this video- I happened to be in Nashville hanging out with Lucc (Dobro Player) when she meet Gabe, on a local hiking trail of all places. When he invited her to do this video they had hardly played together at all, most of this is improvised and one take. Gabe is a huge talent and of course he brought that in spades but what I love about this video is how it shows what talent really is with musicians...how to listen to each other in real time and create in real time. Also go out and meet someone...you never know who you may end up playing with :)
His phrasing and investment in the storytelling are exquisite. Nothing extra, nothing omitted. Like a natural pattern of moss on a tree - unimprovable, just right.
So glad you did a Gabe Lee tune. I've been singing his praises to anyone who'd listen for a while now. Honky Tonk Hell is one of the best country albums I've heard. Some straight-up Dylan-Springsteen-level songwriting.
Wow. For anyone who sings and writes songs, discovering Gabe Lee is one of those moments when you say to yourself, "Oh shit, that's what I wanted to do!" He's AMAZING! (If we hadn't lost John Prine we would have heard them play together FOR SURE!)
Man, he’s great!!! Just finished adding all his stuff from Apple Music. Looking forward to listening to it all in the coming days! Michael, thanks for posting!
I saw him last year at Americana and he is one of the best. Also a heck of a nice guy. The most underrated signer/songwriter I can think of. Really deserves a big breakthrough.
This dude is freaking awesome, gotta be one of the best tenor voices I've heard in a while. Now I'm gonna go binge the rest of your videos while I patiently for the new Polyphia vid :)
My Exact Though As Well! I stopped the video 1:45 in and found him on Spotify. 2nd song I heard was Eveline and I stopped it halfway through after realizing he sounds just like John Prine and I LOVE me some John Prine. I'd heard enough. I'm gonna like this guy and continued the video only for you stop the video and express exactly what I just thought. I'm still at your 2nd stoppage and I had to share. I'm sure I'll get more excited in the next 10 minutes. Great find contributor! Thanks for the breakdown and for sharing this dude. I assume he's a big John Prine fan the way he sounds and to be compared to him would be an extreme honor...I hope.
Yes yes yes. I was looking for a live version and found one of the goats reacting to this gem of an artist. F to the Yeah. Keep going Michael, Seth from Ohio loves you.
Met him when he came up to Appleton with Hollier and King Margo (also amazing artists) and we all hung out after their show. Amazing musicians, but more importantly, amazing down to earth people. Been trying to set up a show with him ever since. 😂
@@stevenharzmusic yeah... it's funny, I think "Honky Tonk Hell" is a better album than "Farmland," but there's no song on "Honky Tonk Hell" as good as "Eveline" even though they're all great.
I reccomended this on a Tuesday live stream a few months ago and I think you were too tired to process what you were listening to! 😄 I even said he was the closest thing to Prine we had today and you read it as "Prince!"
Gabe Lee is awesome! Another independent-type artist to check out is Cole Chaney. His songwriting and playing is top notch! Either the ourvinyl sessions of "charlene" or the red barn radio version of "the flood".
When he first started singing it made me think of Tyler Childers” Feathered Indians…and I heard some Bob Dylan in there too. Pretty cool concoction he has going there.
Also , i learned from Michael's online school about the connection of octave chords and how they correspond into scale shapes. I made it through the major and minor pentatonic scales and my mind was blown how i never had a guitar teacher or other youtube guitar teacher connect the fretboard together in such easy to see pattern recognition. Mr. Palomino Rulez
Gabe is fantastic.....You really need to check out Bella White. Excellent singer song writer with a voice like no other. The is about to really explode!
i had commented on another reply - her name is Lucciana Costa and she is a part of a terrific duo (with Rachel Coats) called King Margo - they have a new album and it's great!!

Same here

my mother claims i have no relation to Prine, but after this comment section I’m starting to have my doubts..
I have never heard a tenor as manly as Gabe Lee. No crazy vibrato, no drama, no insane high notes just good vibes and amazing delivery on every line.
YES
My favorite artist in country music! Most underrated singer/songwriter. He deserves all the Love and attention for his music
I’ve watched this probably 100 times! Your analogy of it was spot on and exactly what I was feeling! Thank you Michael, Stephen that submitted it and Gabe for blessing us with it…truly amazing!
He certainly has a gift! Wasn’t expecting that awesome grittiness either. What a voice!
Fantastic voice! I'd listen to anything from that voice.
Yes! Love Gabe Lee.. he's been on my radar the last few months. Great voice and songwriting
Thanks for sharing Gabe Lee!! What a talented young man. Looking forward to checking out more of his material.
This is super rad; And also makes me miss Justin Townes Earl so, so much.
What a great voice.
I found this guy in 2020 and have been a fan ever since. Criminally underrated.

Now I need to go listen to everything he has out.

This is awesome! This sound and style has been fading away and then you find someone like Gabe and it makes you smile and enjoy the music

Lucciana is terrific!!!! Love me some King Margo!
I was thinking the exact same thing when he first started singing. 🤯 wow!!
I thought the same thing about John Prime. Especially his vocal delivery. Very nice.
Gabe is one of my favorite artists running. Truly an original!
An absolutely amazing player and writer!!!
Definitely a little Dylan in there too. I’m a fan! Can’t wait to dig in to this
Freaking love Gabe Lee! Seeing him love this weekend
Heartbreaker Smile and Alright OK are just impeccable beauty .. breaking guitars 🎸!

Loved the opening lick. 💯🖤💯
Love Gabe!!
Love Gabe. New album coming in October.
I just love watching you connect with the songs you react to. Makes me wish I had your passion just in general.

I saw him in the back room of a bottle shop with roughly 15 other people. It was awesome
John Prine with a touch of Bob Dylan! Great and a terrific musician!

Man he was incredible. Just went to Apple and downloaded 😊
John Prine lives on.
This guy has all the points that made me fall in love with jimmy buffett
The story telling and the soothing qualities. Unreal
Wow, that was unexpected. Great stuff!
Love this guy. Grateful to hear him. Heavily influenced by John Prine.
His way to sing reminds me dylan, and paul simon too! Love him! 🙏❤️
Yes! Love Gabe Lee!
That was so refreshing and good. Thanks!
Can't wait for his new music!
I loved John Prine. This guy is great.
GABE LEE ROCKS!
Nice. His whole presence screams Prine, his very shape, but I can hear some Guy/Steve in there too yet he is making it fresh.

Michael wants to jam and is why he has his electric guitar locked and loaded.
