- This is the Toshiba laptop that I purchased off of Ebay as shown in my previous video. It's in excellent physical condition (Even the battery holds an excellent charge! :D) Unfortunately, the hard drive is not too healthy, so I'm working on getting a better one that works fine.

A nice old laptop. :-) The fan on these normally does not go on unless the CPU is under high load, such as when playing full-screen games. And sometimes hard drives get sticky if they haven't been used in a long time, so maybe it'll get better the more you use it.
@Mrtechguy94 I've had all different brands of laptop hard drives fail on me, but the good thing I've noticed about Toshiba drives is that they die slowly, giving you enough time to back up your data before the drive crashes entirely. That's much better than the Seagate laptop drive I had which was working perfectly one day and then totally crashed the next. Luckily I didn't have any important data on it!
@kokogarlich Windows 98 Second Edition included fixes for many minor issues, such as improved WDM audio and modem support. There was also improved USB support and FireWire DV camcorder support. Second Edition also came with Internet Explorer 5.0 while the regular Windows 98 came with Internet Explorer 4.0. In a nutshell, there were mostly minor upgrades and improvements made in Second Edition.
@vwestlife I've noticed that about Toshiba hard drives. I used to have one in my everyday Dell Studio laptop and the drive went bad as a result of me slamming down the laptop on a table. I was very lucky that I was able to still back up all of my school work and important files from a hard drive with crashed heads.
I think the fan probably is working, it probably just never needs to come on. I have a similar toshiba laptop, and the fan has only come on once when I got it really hot.
@kokogarlich The hard drive is 1300MB (1.3GB). This is just another computer to add to my vintage collection.
I have a similar model to this except mine is a 445CDX. with 48 MB RAM 130 MHz processor and 1.35 GB HDD.
@vwestlife It seems like the hard drive has actually gotten worse the more I use it. At first I thought it had bad sectors, but according to Microsoft Scan Disk, it has no errors whatsoever. I've also formatted it about 20 times and it still hasn't gotten any better, so I'm assuming it's a mechanical problem. I hope it will get better though.
I'm pretty sure my mother's boss gave her one of these machines once, I'm pretty sure it had Windows 95 on it, the headphone jack and speaker were broken, so we couldn't use them. I wonder how well that machine would run and early version of Ubuntu Linux, I'm sure there are some Linux distributions that will run very well on that system.
