Straight to the point and no extra BS. Good Deal, going to do this now to my own Express.
I saw a good suggestion in another film about the alternator bolt bushings being hammered a little from the inside out to make room for the alternator to slide in easily. This will save much frustration trying to install the new alternator.
Just replaced the alternator on my 99 express 2500.Just would like to point out that the tight fit getting the alternator back in can be easily overcome by prying the compression sleeves forward and the alternator will drop right in without all that unnecessary hassle. When you put the bolts back in and tighten them, the sleeves tighten back to the alternator.

1aauto.com how to repair 2014 Chevy Silverado disable traction stabilirrack track control problr
Phil Salisbury thankyouforthetip
That's exactly what I tried to do.. they budge just enough, but I still had to tap it a little. I bet they have a tool for that.. that would have made that easier. like a squeezer with a round hole on one side
The belt diagram & pointing out where that tensioner pulley was huge help. thx

Tip for holding the belt in place to put it back on.. Painters tape or masking tape. This will turn a 2-man, 1 hour belt job into 1-man 20 minutes.
Do you have to use a torque wrench for the tension of belt?
Thanks! This helped me swap mine out in no time. Big help!

Thanks for this great video. The same procedure worked for my 2003 Chevy express cargo van with the 4.8L V8 engine. These components seem to be universal across the various engines. Damo, Ohio
Good video... you explained it pretty well... Especially when you fast forward when you tighten it down or loosen it... 👍🏾
thank you for your cooperation

Great video that got me back on the road in no time
Thank you very much my friend and help me out a lot when I learned from you how to release it and I put it back thank you very much
I wish I had seen the suggestion to pull/hammer back the bolt slides to allow the alternator to slide in easier!
2005 Savana 1500, 5.3L.
1) I went to the parts store first and they asked "Is it a Delco or a Bosch -style?" I went out and took pictures, but we couldn't identify it very well, so I went home, removed the alternator, and returned to the parts store. It matched up with the Delco style. Hint: the visible marking of DR44G is Delco. The old one and the new one had that marking.
The next hour was putting the new one in. There was about 20 minutes of beating the thing into position (Anvil Chorus, Extended Version), 20 minutes of reinstalling the belt, and about 20 minutes of actual work. But I got it done by myself, at night, with snow falling, and probably with some Heavenly help. And if I can do it, I bet nearly anyone can!
2) There's got to be a smarter way to keep some tension on the belt so it doesn't fall off everything. Probably just another youtube video...
3) FWIW, the parts store's alternator tester tool thingy couldn't test the alternator while it was still installed bc the battery voltage was below 12.0v. Sounded silly to me, but ok.
Thanks again
Same basic job for a 2015 Chevy 3500. Good vid, thanks!

Hey, i have a gmc 02 savana 1500 base model. Is changing the alternator in 2nd gen different from the 1st?
I just replaced The alternator on a 6.0 gasoline engine in a 2002 GMC sierra four-wheel-drive 2500 HD pick up today. It was a nightmare because the old belt was too short. I had no way of knowing this, and I broke the tensioner trying to get the belt off. I bought a new tensioner, and found out that the old belt was way too short to be installed. When I bought a new belt, I asked for one a little bit longer (three-quarter inch longer), and the job became SO MUCH EASIER!
You MUST remove the breather and the upper fan shroud if you want to do this job easily, Otherwise you have hell trying to get A new belt on over the fan. You have no place to stand and it will wear your legs out.
the belt took longer to re install than the alternator. The GM engineers must have worked overtime to place the outside bolt directly inline with the fan shroud so you can't get a socket on it
Great video!!
Thank you!!
Super helpful!
