Of all the Carmens' which Roberto has sung, this one stands out as the most seamless performance - from the beginning as an innocent ensnared by the wiles of the gypsy into giving up his country & flag, to the hardened bandit, then driven to madness by the faithless Carmen - for me, this is the benchmark. No other tenor today can match this tenor in a French opera, they roll their r's, they mispronounce, they cannot match his fluency, nor his ardor & passion, no one can, or ever will... Bravo!
Roberto Alagna is superb! Brings tears to my eyes. We saw him in Carmen recently in our local Cinemark theater, LIVE from New York Lincoln Center, thanks to FathomEvents(dot)com All the Met performances are wonderful, but he is my very favorite. See him in the wonderful Don Carlo in December with Encore in January. We've seen it before and will see it again because Roberto Alagna is spectacular in it. Gorgeous music - beautiful royalty costumes and staging. You will love it!
Excellent singing, great acting... Dramatically, I like how Alagna accentuates the contrast between his delusional begging before the first chorus that alerts him to Escamillo and afterwards when he becomes more desperate and disturbed. Passionately sung by both, especially from 'Ainsi, le salut de mon âme'.
I LOVE both : Monzon & Alagna here are realy GREAT ---- wath an amazing rendition ---- wath an achievement ---- It is difficult to get such great Artists and here they are : we are lucky we can see this Video !!!
Alagna does not turn his characters into "pampered brats" - Don Jose is a passionate & obsessed man who is driven by passion to kill the one he loves - and Alagna shows us magnificently with his acting & singing what passion in opera is all about.
WOW!! I had never had the chance to hear Alagna in such a passionate rendition. What a wonderful diction in the French language. As far as she is concerned, I don't like her part. She is overly dramatic as to destry the beautiful melodic yet dramatic lines. Berganza could sing the written notes and add dramatism. Bravo Alagna!
I saw him yesterday in london sing this role. I think his voice is not as good as 10 yrs ago... but his act 4 is great as always. I know what will happen, I know he will kill carmen, but my heart beat speed up when they argue.... so intense!
Uria-Monzon does not seem up to the challange of Alagna's full bodied singing, and resonant gorgeous legato. Although many say that he pushes the voice too much, he makes a fine Jose here by any standard.
5 stars for the effort there's always a Domingo not to mention a M.D.Monaco to compare this aria so 5 stars for the effort after all it's his native language

What a performance from Roberto. The best tenor/actor I have seen in a long time.
Roberto est criant de vérité, il est à fond dans son rôle . Merveilleuse interprétation .

The best tenor / actor peroid.
watched him in the Met, his Don Jose is simply incredible, he's especially electrifying in the final scene, so adorably desperate:)
I tapped this performance from TV5 US.Alagna was perfect Don juse. I also like his duet with micaela, warm and tender.

God this is astonishing, I'm still crying.. The two are superstars, and Bizet wrote something incredible.

I love the way he sings "pour que tu t'en ailles, infame, entre ses bras RIRE de moi".

I've got to agree! I had the pleasure to see her live (As Carmen, in Vienna) and I just LOVED her, especially in this scene.
this is the best final of carmen ever in the history of this opera

wow, snif, snif!

Carmen's death, a little over-acted, don' t you think so?
The mezzo isn't that good and the last two notes were too short...
pales into comparison when compared to Jonas Kaufmann at ROH 2006!
