Ikea Ikea ,I totally agree ,she is not convincing for me ,I prefer Garanca too naked panda .Alagna is superb as always ,but he and Garanca have better chemistry due to both of them being great interpreters of their roles.
I REALLY like Roberto Alagna, especially as Don Jose, he's just an amazing singer and an equally great actor. But this Carmen? I'm afraid I don't like her. She sings quite well, but I don't know....all this rough vocal "noise" she makes all the time, singing quite dramatically and roughly, which leads to clearly not being in tune all the time, which I find quite unpleasant and annoying; it sounds like vocal violation. Then she seems distracted all the time, looks away every second....anywhere, but not at her Don Jose, closes her eyes. She seems to sing more to herself than for her stage partner and her audience, even when she's touching him (well yes, that's what Carmen's pretending to do here, but she doesn't really do it...she's just pretending). The only expression she really shows is some sort of anger or annoyance, which somehow doesn't really fit what she's singing about or what Carmen is trying to achieve here. I don't see tension between those two singers...I just see tension within one person....Carmen. Alagna is totally offering everything and is approaching her as good as possible, but somehow she doesn't react to it, the chemistry isn't there between them, the spark totally missing. Hm. I like other singers better in this role.

Going out of tune every time she sings anything above mezzo-piano..it's ridiculous.
somehow, in my opinion, she doesn't hit the notes most of the time... she's more acting
Agree. But there's another Carmen performed by her and it's really good.
