Hi Marie, your recipes always start for me a "Trip dwn memory lane". Born in India and raised in a very economical houshold I must admit my mom raised 4 girls and a boy so smartly. In India, rice being the staple is cooked veryday, Ths starch is removed from the cooked rice and the starch that comes off the cooked rice is collected and used for many things. 1. it never gets thrown out. 2,In the hot summer months, lack of refrigerator we had large mudpots filled with fresh , sweet water. it used to get real cold. thats the water consumed for day to day use we beat up yogurt, add salt and liquify with rice starch Kanji.. it is yummy . 3, on staurdays it is OIL BATH DAY. That day we apply coconut oil liberally on hair body and it the rice starch we use tas a base ixed with shikakai ( soapnut powder) that we used for removing oil from hair and our body. Reason I am writing such a lengthy comment is to tell you that the rice starch in shampoo mx DOES GIVE THE HAIR VOLUME. and hair feels squeaky clean. Thanks for my rant but thought you would like to hear how we used these as kids. I am 69 now and lots of memories. Did not appreciate it then but now see the relevance of it all. You are doing a fabulous, fantastic job with your videos. Like I said before everytime I see your smile its like letting in fresh air and loads of sunshine. May you always smile, be happy and well. Stay safe Marie/ Love your videos
I dont usually make comments but I have to say, I have made this three times now and I absolutely love this shampoo bar. to be fair I do stalk you quite a lot but this one takes the top prize
I just want to tell you how much I appreciate you for your page. You are really an angel 😇 of mercy. I have been a hairstylist and makeup artist for years. I wanted to start making my own products but didn't know where to begin. It's truly God above who led me to find you. You have made a huge difference in the formulas, formulating, chemical balancing etc. I am now saving and watching every video you post. You are truly a blessing and I will always be in your debt for what you are doing. Thanks a million 🌹🌹🌹
Have you calculated a cost for the bars you formed into shape. If you were making 12 bars at a time ? I appreciate the clear formulation steps and like the idea that you can add more fragrance to experiment with in different batches. Thank you again. I want to make skin moisturizer for my wife and friends, especially for these dry mountain locations- your recipes are clear and straightforward. I appreciate the explanation for choosing certain ingredients. Cheers, Don.
I started out useng cp shampoo bars, now I only use your sulfate free bars, and have my 3 sisters using them as well. We all love them and will not use anything else. Please keep doing what you do because you do it so well🤩
Ooh, I love this. I've been experimenting with different natural "shampoos" for a while now, and what I'm using these days is a yogurt + egg hair mask, but I've been looking for something I don't have to prepare every time I wash my hair. Hopefully I'll be able to get the ingredients, it tends to get tricky here in Europe haha
I can definitely understand that! I was never able to stick with a prep-for-every-use anything :P I think you should be ok on the ingredients-I have EU friends who use most of these :) Happy making!
Hi, I was wondering if you could include what type of shampoo bars you’re making it for? For dry, super dry, oily, sensitive scalp, etc. type of hair. Thank you!
Awesome. Thanks for all the hard work you put into these wonderful videos. I'm going to try making this. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us.
yay!!! I've been thinking of getting ingredients for one of your other shampoo bars but now I'm sold...trying to stop buying everyday items I used that come in plastic packaging. I really hope you have a deodorant stick coming soon please...anyways sooo excited for this diy!
Thank you so much for this recipe..Please do make a shampoo bar with sheekakai, Rita, neem powder etc. I'm from India and would love to use one of these. Thanks in advance..
I'd love if you could make a video on making a cheap shampoo bar formulation, similar to how you did with the Burt's Bees chapstick :) I love your recipes and one day would love to make them!
Love your videos! Thank you so much for all the education! And recepies! If i dont have rice protein in the house, would it be possible to replace it with silk protein? Thank you so much for your answer. Kind regards
Hi Ilaria! The pH is mentioned in the free partner blog post, and it is a-ok ;) I always make sure my shampoo bars have good-for-hair pH levels before publishing them!
Just found you and about to start making my family safe alternatives. My grandbaby has super sensitive skin and little eczema flares. I Would this be suitable for all ages or do you recommend something else for babies and toddlers? Also what about a conditioner recipe?
i've been looking for hydrolysed rice protein in my country but it's a wild-goose chase here. But there is a supplier that sell Hydrolyse Silk Protein but in powder form only. I wonder if you can teach me (or maybe some of us here) how to substitute it in this formula. Hope you reply this.
I keep coming back to this formula, it's so elegant! I have really hard well water that makes my hair feel a little rough despite using excellent conditioner that I know my hair loves in tap water. Could I incorporate a chelating agent (your recent video on pigments has intrigued me) into syndent shampoo bars & cream conditioners to help normalize their performance in hard water? Is this an effective solution?
So excited about this one! Question, where do you usually keep your shampoo bars when not using? I assume not in the shower as they would never really dry again..?
How would this work for very fine hair? Most that I have tried that contain oils or butters have left my hair feeling and looking greasy and lifeless. I would love to give this one a try.
It might be a bit too cleansing-I'd say it hovers around "clarifying shampoo" levels. If you try it, please let me know :) If it doesn't work for shampoo it also makes a brilliant body wash!
The lather makes me want to try it out! Can we use d panthenol and glycerine instead of the seed oil? I have really oily hair so I’d want it to remove all the oil instead of adding it up.
I'd really encourage to to try it as written first; shampoo without any re-fatting ingredients can leave your hair feeling stripped, chalking, and awful. You can always use it as a body wash bar if you want to move on and make a stronger shampoo bar later :)
I believe oily hair is often a reaction to the scalp (skin) moisture barrier being disturbed by using shampoos that are too harsh and drying (just as with oily skin), so ironically, you initially need more oil to reduce oil production. You might see if this recipe ends up normalizing your scalp and hair over time. Could be exactly what you’re needing.
Hi. I have found your page just a few days ago, and I am loving it! I am from Peru and I haven't found SLSA. Is it possible to replace it for SCS or another product? I hope you answer, but if not, it doesn't matter, thank you so much for all this knowledge

You can see how hard the bars get in the video-pretty darn hard!! You can also see how pliable they are, so use your own judgement on the mould :) I think it would depend on the mould. Happy making!
Hey, wondering why Germall plus works for this, since it is 11.5% water (and will evaporate further) when I have read about Germall plus the guide for use is a high water percentage in the product. Is this usage okay because it is designed to be wet and worked into a lather/being a shampoo bar in contact with water?
I'd probably refer you to this formulation instead: www.humblebeeandme.com/ice-palace-sulfate-free-shampoo-bar/. You'd have to make some pretty substantial changes to this formulation to replace ~20% of the ingredients. Happy making!

Wonderful recipe. Is it okay to skip the rice flour? As an Asian it seemed odd for me to put something you would normally make something deep fried with.
Hi! No, you can't skip an ingredient that makes up 15% of a formula-that'll throw the whole thing off. If you don't want to use it I encourage you to check out some of the many other shampoo bar formulations I've shared (I love this one: ua-cam.com/video/-mHjlvvM4tg/v-deo.html).
I discuss why I've used both (and why you can't use just Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI)) in the video-have you watched yet? :) I have done some just-SCI solid formulations-one is mentioned in today's video. Happy making!

I made this shampoo bar and find it's amazing on my hair but sadly after a few uses it's crumbling. Also I wanted to add that when mixing the dough it's extremely dry and very difficult to make soft enough to shape or mold and I live in a very humid environment. Not sure if you can tell me how to fix the problem because I love how well it works on my hair. Also I did allow a few days for them to dry out before using
Hi! It sounds like you need to add a bit more water to the dough as you're working with it :) The dough should be workable; if it isn't, that's a sign it is too dry. Glad you're loving the bar-hopefully a bit more moisture will get it to last longer!
Thank you😊Also, how long would you reccomend letting my shampoo bar sit before first use? I have my dehumidifier running after making them. Also I used rice starch in mine and not rice flour if that's ok. Seeing this recipe doesn't call for any water to be added I'm guessing if it's too dry perhaps I'd just add a tablespoon of water or simply spritz it with water until a soft dough forms.
Ah yeah, using starch instead of flour could definitely throw off the wet/dry balance enough to cause problems, but that's pretty easily remedied :) I made a whole video on drying times for shampoo bars :) ua-cam.com/video/zHxTsAog60c/v-deo.html

Hi! Thanks for your video!
Please tell me which surfactans îs more aggressive SCS or SLSa?
I'd say Sodium Coco Sulfate (SCS) is the stronger surfactant.

Ok so I'm confused cuz u say (and ur ingredient list also says) Rice STARCH but the bag in ur video says Rice FLOUR. Google says they are different so I just want to make sure I use the correct one or if either works?

Dandruff is caused by skin fungus, not by a specific ingredient in a shampoo. I'd recommend an anti-fungal shampoo like Nizoral to clear it up :)
Might be because the SLSa, i hv same issue
It's only fungal if there is severe itching redness with flakes.. Otherwise it is dryness

Could this be ok for beards
Yup!
What is rice starch?
Is this recipe in your book?
No; I don't publish the recipes in my book for free :)
Could I substitute another heavier oil for the camelia oil and leave out the yellow color?
Please read the partner blog post :) This is all covered there!
Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
I have to ask how it feels to wash hair, fully dressed.
It feels really weird LOL. I did not enjoy feeling extra soaking wet 🤣
Was thinking 🤔 also 😁
I made this shampoo bar and find it's amazing on my hair but sadly after a few uses it's crumbling.
Ah yeah, using starch instead of flour could definitely throw off the wet/dry balance enough to cause problems, but that's pretty easily remedied :)
I made a whole video on drying times for shampoo bars :) ua-cam.com/video/zHxTsAog60c/v-deo.html
@@HumblebeeAndMe so how much water should I add in seeing I used rice starch?
Enough to get the desired consistency. I can’t tell you exactly how much that would be, you’ll have to figure it out on the fly 🙂
what about Ph
You'll find the answer to your question in the blog post that's linked in the description box below the video ;) If you're not sure what that means, read this: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/whats-the-description-box-on-youtube/.
Happy making!
Forbidden cookie dough
😋 🤮
Sounds complicated...
Always missing just one ingredient 🤦♀️
Hopefully it's the rice starch! That's a pretty easy one to get locally :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe missing that also but I can get that from Amazon. It’s the hydrolized rice protein. So far, haven’t found it. I thought for sure TKB but nope
Another item I’ve not found is that beautiful raw bayberry wax you used in a previous formulation.the one on Amazon was out of stock but not the same product. Would love to get my hands on some bayberry wax
I keep hearing it as 1 word "shampubar"
I see you didn’t need lye, why is that
This is a syndet shampoo bar, so you don't use lye like you woud for a cold process soap shampoo bar.
