Betrimonium chloride leaves the hair feeling slightly silkier in my opinion, whereas the BTMS leaves it feeling slightly more voluminous. So if you want a straightening conditioner, use the Betrimonium chloride and if you need a volume builder, try the BTMS. And if you’re going to include an oil into your conditioner, a tiny bit of coco betaine goes a long way to leaving it squeaky clean. If you want to grow your hair long, you need to experiment until you arrive at a formula that suits your hair. Everyone is different which is why I gave up on store bought products, besides them being expensive. I don’t have split ends anymore. Thanks Marie.
BTMS 25 has been the first conditioning emulsifier I ever purchased. It is quite lovely on the hair, but as I gained more experience, I realized I would've preferred to work with separate materials in regards to the conditioning part and the thickening part, so that I could have more control over them. Therefore I bought behentrimonium chloride and cetearyl alcohol by themselves. Another thing I didn't like about BTMS 25 is that it thickens emulsions very easily even at small percentages, making it impossible to have a milk-like consistency as the end result.
Gosh! I am the 4th comment. Yay💥💥💥 This and the 3 conditioners formula wow…it really helped me understand the BTMS 25 which is easier to find. Thanks 🌺🌺🌺
Hello Maria that was super helpful. I'm wondering what the difference is between BTMS25 VS BTMS50? Thank you. Oops you just answered it thank you! That was the most easiest to understand explanation I've read. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the videos. They are straight to the point and products are made with few ingredients, and still very effective. Please, which preservative is best for hair products?
Happy to help! Don't forget to check out my blog (humblebeeandme.com) as well-I've been blogging since 2011 while I’ve only been on UA-cam since about 2016, so there are a lot more formulations on the blog. The blog is also where my ingredient encyclopedia and FAQ live, and they're both packed with tons of super-helpful information ❤️ Happy making!
Hi Marie, thank you so much for your detailed videos... can you mix Behentrimonium Chloride with BTMS to get the best of both... or it’s counterproductive? Thanks
I had only one ounce left of BTMS 50 and purchased BTMS 25, would it be beneficial or not advisable to use a mix of both BTMS 25 & BTMS 50 in a hair conditioner formulation?
Hi Marie 💖 I accidentally bought Behentrimonium Chloride instead of BTMS 50 , do I need add cetearyl alcohol? ( I have cetyl alcohol and Stearic Asid , can I substitute/ replace with them ?) and how much adding ?
Hi! You will need some sort of fatty thickener to approximate the performance of BTMS 50. It does not have to be cetearyl alcohol; cetyl and/or stearic acid will work. I would start with roughly 50-50. Experiment and have fun, and as always, you can learn more in the Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia and the deep dive videos I've done on all three thickeners. Happy making!
@@KrymiPles I think that's because you are spelling it incorrectly (if you're spelling it the same way as you spelled it in your comment). www.humblebeeandme.com/?s=behentrimonium+chloride
Hi Alicia! It can be used to increase the melting point of an anhydrous product, but probably wouldn't be first choice if that's the goal. I'd look at an isolated fatty thickener instead, like stearic acid. I did a deep dive on that, too :) Happy making!
This goes against my reason for learning how to care for my skin. At that point i will buy commercial ready to use products. Love your videos. Just my 2 cents on those products

@althaea officinalis thank you so much for this comment. Hat would you use to make a hair spray? Like a milk?
@@joy5016 yes, you can make a hair spray with 2% behentrimonium chloride.
I’m glad your talking about btms 25. It’s so much cheaper and love your trick about grinding it. Thanks for all you do for us :)
❤️ Thanks for watching!
Holy moley lady! You have just set my world on end! Im now obsessed with trying a btms blends

Hooray! That's exactly what I was trying to do ❤️
Marie, mine is both.. it makes a conditioner that actually rinses clean. Having thick red hair, it grabs the products. I do love being green
Awesome! Can you share how you do so? I will appreciate.

So I may have missed it, is btms25 natural ? Really love your videos.
Love this deep dive series.
Thank you so much! ❤️
please do a video of btms 50 for body butters and scrubs
Will this prevent carrier oils from absorbing into the hair?
I love your videos 🥺🙏🏻💛
❤️
If I use Lanette Wax is this also
Good ?
Can I use both stearic acid, beeswax, and BTMS 50 IN one product? If yes, in what order? Thanks
I just wonder if I can use BTMC also in leave in conditioner or in skin care.
I'm confused humblebee, you said BTMS 25 is twice as concentrated as BTMS 50, but it sounds like it's half as concentrated.
Awesome 👌 video. Please do you know if I can use btms25 in making a hair butter but without adding water?
Check out the 2nd and 5th free formulations at the end of the video ;)

Is btms-25 or 50 better?
Can BTMS-25 be added into Body Butter(shea butter....)
Can also use Btms 25 for afro hair i mean African hair?
Where can you get it's 25?

How do you use behentiomium Chloride in a formula? I found a supplier near me :)
Please look it up in the Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/) :)

To make my own conditioning wax with behentrimonium chloride, what would the ratio be.
I do discuss this in the video :) Have you watched it yet?
Can i use guarcat and btms in a same formulation? I am affraid that those two product are not compatible? And the finish product will separate
You definitely can-you'll find that combo in professionally formulated products all the time :)

Btms 25 is better or btms50?
Which is better for hair conditioner
Have you watched the video? This is discussed in it.
I usually add it on my conditioner but only btms 50 doesn't work & I use with e wax then it became so thick please help me
I'd recommend following some of the formulations I've shared with it as I've tested those and know they work :) Happy making!
I came across btms 80, have you tried it before ? Can it be a substitute
It could be, but you'd need to adjust with additional cetearyl alcohol similarly to how you'd have to for pure BTMS :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe thank you 🥰🥰
I got BTMS 25 as crystals or something, but struggles to dissolve
It is definitely stubborn about melting.
This goes against my reason for learning how to care for my skin. At that point i will buy commercial ready to use products. Love your videos. Just my 2 cents on those products
So I’m guessing btms-25 isn’t water soluble for those of us who care about that in hair products?
It's an emulsifier, so it will mix/emulsify into water. Cetearyl alcohol isn't water soluble, but the BTMS brings it with it.
All these alcohols are confusing 🤪
Ceteryl.. is a fatty alcohol. Not like alcohol you drink or use to disinfect.. start there.. is that better??
