    I noticed the same thing as you when I fitted the extension piece to the filler cap for the tank bag on my 800MT, you can't lift the filler cap without removing the tank bag because the filler cap key won't come out unless the cap is down; so the key gets in the way.

    Great review/ update!
    Apparently the affected part that has water ingress, its only function is to attach the bash plate to. So it's not a major load bearing part, so it wouldn't worry me, I'm not cancelling my order !

    Hi Charlie,
    Im glad its not just me that scratches tanks, i did a real corker with the buckle on in my jacket. Needless to say, there's a protector in place now.
    Im glad you're still getting on famously with Bella. Ive mentioned before that i have the 650NK.
    Its been 100% reliable, no issues of any kind. Its a well built bike thats as good as any on the market in my opinion. Ive had all the usual Japanese bikes in the past which were good as well, but the CF is up there with them for riding pleasure and reliability.
    Hope all your gear arrives soon for your upcoming trip north.🏍️
    Ride safe😊😀

    Thank you, Charlie for that informative video, this could be the bike that my wife gets in early part of next year when it comes to Canada, we’re hoping that the lowering linkage that you had showed before will work for her, as needs a low seat. Hi Charlie thanks for sharing.
    I like the extras you have put on Bella, sensible additions I'd say.
    The water in the down tubes is a issue but drilling a hole too allow the water out will help. Some folk spray a water repellent inside too try an prevent corrosion but I think CF MOTO will come up with a better solution moving forward.
    Here in Australia CF MOTO recalled the MT 450 due too the chain guard coming into contact with the front sprocket cover and were replacing the sprocket cover with a modified one.
    Maybe this has only been a issue here due too the terrain in Australia where the bike is being ridden.
    Adding a extra tooth on the front will allow a higher highway speed without reving the bike so hard but there will be a small decrease in off road torque.
    Its a compromise I guess.
    Keep up the good work 👏

    Well you just beat me to mine but only because I'd been in an accident and couldn't ride for a while. I just left mine in the showroom till I could ride again. Very annoying.
    Anyway. Glad you are enjoying your bike, I absolutely love mine. That engine is a real peach and handling for a bike with 21" 18" wheels is astounding IMHO.
    Real reason for my message though is to suggest changing the front sprocket to 15t. Especially as you are doing distance on the road. It makes for a much more relaxed ride.
    Sprockets are readily available on eBay for less than a tenner and all you need to do is slide the back wheel forward, no need to buy a new chain. (Ideally do it before you get too much wear on the old chain and sprockets).

    3:42 it does affect the performance a bit, as if you increase top speed as in reducing the revs by a few hundred rpm, it will slightly reduce the acceleration, but if you are after more relaxed cruising it's a good idea

    • @chrishart8548
      @chrishart8548 Місяць тому

      You could just change down a gear though increase revs and improve acceleration.

    • @kevindarkstar
      @kevindarkstar Місяць тому

    • @davidmatthews3093
      @davidmatthews3093 Місяць тому

      It far more likely that the top speed would be reduced because the engine does not have the power and torque to cope with the higher gearing at high speed.

    • @davidmatthews3093
      @davidmatthews3093 Місяць тому

      @@chrishart8548It doesn’t work like that in practise.

    • @kevindarkstar
      @kevindarkstar Місяць тому

      @@davidmatthews3093 In general, a smaller front sprocket, and/or a bigger rear sprocket will translate into a higher final drive ratio, and lead to better acceleration at the cost of top speed. On the other hand, a bigger front sprocket and / or a smaller rear sprocket would denote a lower final drive ratio and would lead to better top speed, at the cost of quick initial acceleration. In essence, sprocketing is a tool to manipulate how the engine rpm translates to road speed, by increasing or decreasing the torque served at the rear wheel at any given rpm.

    Hello fellow 450MT owner. :D
    Had mine since mid August. 1700 miles, including a week in the Peak Dsitrict, and loving it.
    Not bought specifically for off-road (my experience is an instructor guided day in the Peak District on a smaller, lighter well prepped Honda CRF250 on proper knobblies).
    This is my smallest capacity bike (others are 690, 900, 750) and IMHO perfectly capable of travelling on with some bags slung across the back, and enough capability to take you off-road (depending on ability and confidence). I hear that 15 tooth front sprocket mod knocks about 400 rpm off making it a little less buzzy for higher speeds. Personally, I think I will leave it as it is. At 70mph it's way smoother then my 690 single, and generally the gearing seems to suit me TBH.
    Engine is characterful enough that encourages a bit of fun on the throttle, and quite nimble on the road even with the 21" wheel size. Bigger physical size and 195 (ish) wet weight is IMHO an advantage when on the road. Weight feels quite low and on the whole well balanced so you don't feel the weight. You might get fed up if you drop it more than a few times in a day though. :D
    173cm height here and the 820mm seat height is about spot on for me to flat foot. Taller/long-legged people - get the rally seat. I could be tempted for more leg room and long distance comfort. I AM one of those people with a bonier bum, and I got twitchy and needed a break after 2.5 hours riding. :)
    About 68mpg, which is neither brilliant or awful, but the 17.5l tank gives me plenty of range. When you're used to only 110-150 miles from a full tank, 250+ miles range is a new experience. :)
    CFMoto crash bars fitted by the dealer, a 10 litre Kriega daypack for the rear, and a bit of self-applied paint protection film where my legs rub the bodywork are the only additions.
    Deposit down in March and this was an impulse purchase that I don't regret.
    And... I'm always getting approached and interrogated about this bike by genuinely interested people where ever I go. :D

    When you drill or have the hole drilled, ensure that you haave galvafroid or similar painted over the bare metal, rust is the chinese bike enemy. Spray Lanoguard up into the frame too as itll be bare metal. You can/shoukd treat the whole bike to protect it.
    Changing the front sprocket WILL affect performance to some degree, in this case to get "longer legs" acceleration will be blunted to some degree while it will cruise more economically and quietly. Be careful how far you go as it can actually work against you sometimes though one tooth should be fine
    If you watch Noraly, the Dutch lady Adventurer, shes just unveiked her "new" bike, in the second episode there is an explanation of why you increase the rear rather than the front sprocket..... still cant remember her online name.
    Have fun Charlie

I hear the same crap like you, it was wrong sent to Russia, Portugal etcetera. So I wonder when you placed your order and if you have received? Looking forward for your answer. Arco and Ada Troost from the netherlands.

    Surely drilling a hole into a frame is not a fix? I would want to know where the ingression of water was coming from and that part modifying and replacing. This is not treating the cause its just plastering over it. As the inside part wont be treated against water flow it will still rust. Using a medical term "Treat the cause not just the symptoms".

      The chances are it is an unforeseen condensation issue within the tube work, which will be fixed at the factory from here-on-in by drilling a drain hole in the affected part.

    • @paulholmes9537
      @paulholmes9537 Місяць тому +1

      I noted the issue from a UA-cam channel in Australia and one other, the issue appears to be a hole that is used to inject rust preventing chemical into the frame which is then not sealed, this will indeed allow water or condensation, sadly any open vent will continue the ingress . The solution is to block the hole. Drilling into untreated steal as the rusty water attest to will only exhasbate the problem plus weaken the frame. I’d request a full replacement of the affected part which I believe can be replaced, again sadly through lack of spare parts this isn’t offered. We need to stop making excuses for poor quality control wherever it is found. Only six 450mt came into the Uk in the first batch. Plus they are for pre order only there will be no test bikes or showroom bikes so be sure the ones people order are perfect.

    Be careful if you consider changing the front sprocket because it does change the performance of the bike. It seems to be the current fashion and fashion isn’t an engineering concept. I’ve experienced it twice in my motorcycling career and both times it made the bike less good to ride. The two bikes couldn’t have been much more different, the first was a Triumph sportsbike producing almost 110 BHP and the second a Suzuki DR125 with about one tenth of the power. In both cases the performance was noticeably changed for the worse. The Triumph lost it ability to accelerate like it had before and the Suzuki always needed to be in a gear lower than before. This actually meant that it no longer had the super low first gear that proved so useful so often off-road and sixth gear was only ever used going downhill or with the wind. I remember you enjoyed riding the 500X and that enjoyment came from the gearing being matched to the engine’s power and torque. Several high profile journalists have been surprised by the Honda’s performance and claimed that its performs so much better than the figures suggested, that’s down to the gearing. Giving your bike which has similar power and torque issues to the 500X might make it slightly more comfortable cruising at above 60 mph on fast roads but it will make the bike less responsive and more difficult to ride on tracks and trails. And that’s with an unladen bike. Once you’ve packed your bags and tied on your tent the problem will be multiplied. For the use that you give your bikes it would be a mistake. Manufacturers don’t make basic mistakes they have put a lot of thought into gearing their products.

  • @geoffhaylock6848
    @geoffhaylock6848 Місяць тому +1

    The Front sprocket would make the gearing have less legs since it has to turn more to complete one revolution of the rear sprocket. Assuming the gearbox sprocket is smaller that the rear sprocket. Often done for offroad use and/or better acceleration.

    I'm not a fan of changing sprockets from spec. Engineers design things a certain way for a reason. I can understand Itchy Boots reasoning on her refurbished redesigned bike. Also it upsets the
    speedometer calibration reading. For what I've seen in your videos and what you do, I think it would'nt be worth the hassle. I have a Triumph 400X people have done the same, it is just tinkering about with things.
