I’m so excited I found a 4 x 4 in our shed and I just cut the whole thing to make several of these now I gotta find all the I screw and hooks somewhere in my husbands garage 🤣
I’ve built several of these. I had no idea there was such a large carpenter bee population around my home. For a couple of years I’d catch pint jars full every summer. Now it’s just a few.
One way to get a block of wood 4 inch square is to go to some warehouse ware they throw away there old wooden pallets some are made with 4 inch square blocks
I have carpenter bees but in a PacNW forest and wondering if I need to add an attractant of some kind? Reason why I ask is because I purchased 2 "Carpenter Bee traps" of similar design about 2 years ago, and have failed to catch not a one.
My tractor shed is so infested that these traps do not catch enough bees to make a dent in the population. I suspect that the scent of the bees attracts other bees so I am putting dead bees in the traps now to see if that helps. I make dead bees with a Harbor Freight Electronic Fly & Insect Swatter.
Teaching students how to make these traps. They asked why don't you wear safety glasses and gloves, why no quick grip to secure block. All in all they liked your video.
THANKS FOR A GREAT VIDEO! But I overthink things.. Anyone care to comment on: 1) I'm used to making the incoming holes higher up in the wood. T he center hole would be deeper. I wonder which is better. Lower, it seems when the bee gets to the center , the light from the bottom would be brighter than from the diagonals, so they are more likely to go down? 2) 29/64?! I am used to 1/2". I guess I should measure 1 of the many holes I have in my deck to see what size the bees around here are making. 3) I like how you drill the hole in the lid. I have them loose on a piece of wood and they spin around / hole is much more ragged. 4) I've been collecting different size containers. I wonder if taller or wider diameter helps / hurts? Over time, they get in the jar. Do they ever bounce around enough to find the hole right above them and find their way out?
Hey, do I get to be the guy that beats you up about killing the bees? XD But seriously, it's useful! I wonder how far around the bees search the structure looking for a hole before deciding to make one? I guess what I am asking is why do you think the bees preferentially go to the trap?

I don’t put anything in my traps and I have caught lots of carpenter bees.

I should wear safety glasses, thanks for watching my video.
Do you ever put honey or bait in your jars?
I never have thanks for watching
👍👍

I tried one of those and left it out all summer and didn't catch one bee.
Crazy I have caught many bees.
Use plastic instead of glass jar
thanks again
You're going to ruin that spade bit by drilling at high speed
Ok thanks for watching
I built some of these traps and the bees 🐝 will not go in there! 😂
I catch carpenter bees in these traps the big ones
How come they just don't get out the way they went in? Just wondering.
They head towards the light

I really do not know but they seem to be working I have made about 8 of them and it is keeping the bee under control. Thanks for commenting

waste of time, use permetherin.
