I finished my high school graduation project two months ago. The purpose of it was to make a racing fuel by myself. My teacher knew someone who works at Shell, and next thing I know I'm working together with Shell on this project. I ended up using MTBE too, which was very expensive to get, and after I calculated the perfect amount of additive MTBE needed for my fuels, I had to use special safety equipment to blend it with the base fuel I used. Over at Shell they were so impressed that they offered to run tests on the fuels at their refinery in Rotterdam (NE). They tested it and they gave it it's own lable, which was very cool. They told me that my fuel was of very high quality, and they could sell it for a very high price per liter. That is also the reason it is not available at gas stations, because very few people would actually use fuel that is that expensive. But after all, I scored a 10 on my project so I'm happy :).

Some gas stations at German Autobahn have RON100 E5 (racing fuel), the Jeep runs fine on it. Warning for turbo users, let your oil heat up before kicking it and also give it a few minutes cooling down by idling before stopping the engine when the turbo did it's job. Unfortunately I had a turbo replacement at 90.000 km. Garage said, not my fault.

Funny he mentions the Focus since in the manual of any 2012-present model year says it will benefit from 91 octane fuel. Increases mileage and power since the engine can run at a higher compression ratio. Pretty sure this extends to any modern Ford as well.
As someone who delivers fuels for a living, and has delivered to VP Racing, I can tell you, your race gas is 100LL (Low Lead) aviation gasoline with extra dye added to it. Yes, it has lead in it, so it will mess up your catalytic converter, and they don’t do anything else to it, so it’s only 110 octane, the same stuff used in small prop planes, which sells in my area right now in the $5.00/gallon range. Also, jet fuel is shelf stable and is basically kerosene, but still has the natural sulfer content.
Those higher octane fuels also burn slower so if your car calls for 87 and you run 93 you'll possibly lose performance because the complete burn likely won't be at top dead center and you throw away power doing so. I've heard this from riders that think motorcycle=premium fuel and find that their lower end bikes like the ninja 650 actually run BETTER on 87. High compression cars are designed with that in mind
I love what Bumper 2 Bumper has changed into. Before Jerry it was just looking at cool cars that people have made, which was great, but I love the Science Garage vibes that Jerry’s Bumper has sort of brought back.
Unless you have a very high compression dirt bike, you're not going to gain anything running anything more than 87 or 89 octane (or whatever your bike lists for what is required), just a giant waste of money. The only exception is when you get ethanol-free race fuel. Technically, 10% ethanol pump gas produces about 3% less HP per unit of fuel than 100% gas does, so on a non-fuel injected engine, that could translate to a couple HP.
Some say that donut has been working for the last 3 months to make an up to speed on james' dad. But the episde is taking so much time that they don't have time to make other episodes.
6:18 jet fuel is basically diesel with additives to prevent water from binding to the fuel... In other words you might actually get it to start as it roughly takes 10000 x longer to lose it potency via evaporation compared to gasoline. However you would have to heat it first to de-gel it... Aviation fuel (prop plane) on the other hand is gasoline with lead
Military jet fuel (JP-5) is actually just kerosene with certain additives. It can only be used in jet engines (that can run on everything, even perfumes), because it's cheap and lightweight. Aviation gasoline (Avgas), however, could probably be put in a car and it will work. It's a little fancier race fuel. However, after such long time it must have evaporated.
You can possibly improve the Performance by remapping the car, ie by adjusting the degrees of the ignition. Racing fuel can also contain more oxygen. There are those who can change the programming in the car specifically for the fuel you use
Not the same index, I had to check on Wikipedia. Europe uses RON (a simulation based on low regime) while US uses AKO (a simulation based on between low and high regime : AKI = (RON + MON)/2 , MON being high regime octane). You have : 95MON = 90AKI and 98RON=93MON
ouh Harley. thats is not the bike supposed to used 91. superbike is the one used that.harley suppose to use standard because it compression ratio is low make it harder to fire. harley engine never update lol.you just make your engine cleaner but heavy your throttle
@@therowdyboysnetwork2827 flex fuel is a sensor and software that can detect what fuel your running, so if you usually run 91 pump gas but can only get e85, it adjusts the behavior of you engine to compensate for a different type of fuel
Exactly, which makes flexfuel better imo because depending on where you live, you might not have any E85 pumps available near you. There is only one e85 pump that I know of, and its so out of the way that it doesnt show on google maps. My buddy has a evo thats running E85, but hes one of the few people i know that even can run it lol.
Worth mentioning that there are different measures of octane rating. Main ones are Research Octane Number (RON) and Motor Octane Number (MON), and as a rule of thumb the MON figure for a fuel is 10 points lower than the RON figure. Most of the world uses the RON rating. The USA uses the Pump Octane Number (PON), which is the average of the RON and MON figures. So by the above rule of thumb the PON figure will be 5 points lower than the RON rating. So USA 91 octane fuel is about the same as a fuel labelled 96 octane through most of the world.
Interesting I use race gas in my 10:1 compression ratio Jeep SRT8 and it reduces short knock to zero and I'm about 2/10ths of a second faster down the 1/4th mile. I don't have a race gas tune but I am on a 94 octane tune (Petro Canada sells 94 where I live).
That's an excellent use for "race" gas. It will reduce or eliminate the retarding of the timing due to heat and engine loading during drag racing. Which would reduce power. Especially if you make back to back runs on a hot night without time to thoroughly cooling the engine. Higher octane unleaded fuel gives you an added level of safety against reduced power from knock.
I just use what is recommended in the owners manual. For my 2019 Honda Accord 2.0 I use 87. My friend has the same car and he puts 93 and tells me I should do the same.
Another big factor in the price difference is the government. in the US, Gasoline is HEAVILY subsidized to keep prices low enough for general consumption, which is why in the EU and Canada, Gasoline is often 2-3x the price of pump gas in the US. Race fuel isn't subsidized at all, so it has to be sold at a profit, which means even just basic Sinclair or VP 110 octane from a pump is going to cost 10-15 dollars a gallon. Though at the same time, this also makes the cost of race gasoline less market driven, and thus less prone to fluctuations, so today in the Summer of 2022, when my 91 Octane gasoline is 5-6 dollars a gallon, I can still get 5 gallons of race fuel for my Go-Kart for 45 bucks, same price I paid a year ago.

I am living at Europe and even sometimes driving on German Autobahn with a Jeep Renegade 1.4 Turbo 170 hbp. I prefer RON98 E5 instead of RON95 E10. It gives a significant better mileage.

That feel when the cheapest pump fuel has the highest octane.
E85 ftw
Po’ mans race gas
Well, when I drink racing fuel I find it to have a smoother more rich taste than standard gas. Oh wait... is that not what we’re talking about?

@@racerex340 I just normally use 91octan

In europe, slovenia at least we have min 95 octane with 100 being high octane
Probably RON, so equivalent to around 91 to 93.
So people telling me to put 91 in my harley have been wrong this whole time!? 😡
I only put 95 in my cars
Because I'm in EU and we measure octane a little bit differently, I think it was about 87 US octane

Used to run VP C16 in my Corvette when racing it. Was always fun to spend $80 for a few gallons of gas.
“There is no difference” video ends
Slight diff only
The main difference is once you get into race gas, e85 is at some pumps but some cars can run e85 with flex fuel
What’s the difference between flex fuel and e85?

God I miss when gas was less that $3.00
Interesting I use race gas in my 10:1 compression ratio Jeep SRT8 and it reduces short knock to zero and I'm about 2/10ths of a second faster down the 1/4th mile.
Higher octane unleaded fuel gives you an added level of safety against reduced power from knock.
remember when gas was $3.70 a gallon yeah good times
Is anyone here after the new gas prices, I was wondering how he found gas for 3 bucks

damn do most places only offer 2 or 3 octanes? in MN, we have 85, 87, 88, 89, 91, and diesel at most gas stations
Those are probably mixed from a few tanks, other stations could do that but there is no real reason to do that
Time to remake this video.
Do a "Rotella T6 vs Mobil1: Which blows your engine?"
