    I'm glad you appreciate this band. There are some people out there who lack the intellect to understand and appreciate the genius of Dream Theater.

    The drummer(Mike Mangini) has a ridiculous drum set for several reasons but the main reason is he taught himself to play ambidextrously. He's got pretty much a mirrored set-up on the left and right to where he can turn and play right handed/left handed or a combination of the two. Also at one point in the mid-2000s he held several speed records for hand and foot speed. He's also known for his work with poly-rhythms. His jam session during his audition which is on UA-cam(Dream Theater Take this for the Pain) is absolutely insane considering it was his first time playing together with the band.

      @Sudipto Bhattacharyya Bro, you're totally wrong because Portnoy NEVER had a drum kit set up for playing ambidextrous because Portnoy doesn't play drums like that That is a Mangini thing. Also this particular song that they were reacting to "Lost Not Forgotten" was released AFTER Portnoy left the band. So, I'm not exactly sure how he composed the song in the studio with the band months after he'd left the band? For the record, I do prefer the Portnoy stuff.

    • @donkarnage6032
      @donkarnage6032 2 роки тому

      @Sudipto Bhattacharyya Of course, Mangini has to use the same types of drums, toms and cymbals in order to recreate the sounds of older Dream Theater. He can't play an entirely different kit and expect the band or the fans to go along with it. Just because they reused some parts they(Petrucci/Rudess) had written beforehand doesn't mean anything. Furthermore, the majority of the drums were written/programmed by Petrucci because he and Rudess went away alone to write ADTOE and Petrucci was programming drum parts so they had some backbone to go along with. Mangini was brought into the studio to add to what Petrucci had laid out. Portnoy had nothing to do with the writing of drums parts on ADTOE. Honestly, if Portnoy was in the band ADTOE would've never happened since it was a re-hash of Images and Words.

    American progressive metal band Dream Theater's 11th album, A Dramatic Turn Of Events marked the first time that guitarist John Petrucci contributed the bulk of the lyrics, following the departure of founding member Mike Portnoy. He told MusicRadar it was an opportunity he relished. "I've been wanting to write an entire album of lyrics for a long time now," he said. "The process of connecting music to a message is so gratifying, especially when I have a singer like James La Brie, who can make words come to life in ways that are spine-tingling."
    This song found Petrucci harping back to some of 1950s Hollywood's depictions of the ancient civilizations. Said Petrucci: "The mood of the song always reminded me of an old-time epic film like Ben-Hur. So I wrote lyrics that are somewhat historical about this ancient Persian elite fighting force that kind of died out. Again, a good example of my love for storytelling and linking music to words."
    Petrucci told MusicRadar that musically this track is one of the most technical songs on A Dramatic Turn Of Events. "It has a lot of twists and turns and some crazy ideas that were confusing to us as we were writing and recording. It took a while to get it all under our fingers," he said. The axe-man added: "Guitar-wise, it's the one song where I tune down to D. I thought it would sound heavier that way. And it does - I think the song kicks some serious ass!"
    The song features a diminished passage of unison playing. Said Petrucci: "I wrote it out and built it piece by piece, programming drums as I went. I showed it to Jordan (Rudess, keyboards), who said, 'That's crazy!' He learned it and put a harmony to it.
    We played it for some of the people from Roadrunner who came by as we were recording, and they went crazy. One of them remarked that the diminished section was like being tickled - that feeling you get where you're saying, 'Stop, stop!' but somebody keeps tickling you anyway. So we started referring to that part as 'The Tickle Section.'"

    With DT’s deep New York roots, I’m surprised that you were unaware of them. Their music falls somewhere between Prog and Metal. You might enjoy the DVD of their 20th anniversary concert recorded at Radio City Music Hall, half of it with an orchestra. It’s called Score (get it?). Enjoy.

    Only thing I can say is, you guys killed it! I loved watching your faces as Dream Theater melted your mind. These guy have been producing music as Dream Theater since 1988. They just finished there 15th studio album, and there still touring. Ok, so sit down for this. Originally 3 members of DT are from, you ready?.. New York! John Petrucci the lead guitar player is from Long Island along with John Myung the bass player. The original drummer Mike Portnoy in from Brooklyn I think. Those three met at Berkeley school of Music in 1984, and formed Majesty/Dream Theater. Jordan Rudess the keyboard player went to Julliard at age 9 and in now known as the world's top Piano/keys player. The Drummer, Mike Mangini Joined the group in 2010 after Mike portnoy left the group to form others like Sons of Apollo, Transatlantic, Liquid Tension Experiment, Winery Dogs, Neal Morse Band, and more. All these bands are at a Purple level. As Musicians I know you really appreciated this. You want more. You guys did such a fantastic job that I'm upping my Patron to 5 dollar tier. And I'm sending you more to mind melt off of. Now you know why I said they were # one on my favorite of all time. I was introduced to them in 1995, and my life with music has never been the same. I'm upping my tier, and requesting another. You think there Live performance was great, wait till you hear there Studio versions. Thank You oh so much for making my day. Now I'm gonna listen to it again. They've been all over the world, and there fans are millions.

    Dream Theater formed in 1988. So yeah, that have been around forever. They have a new album out in a month or so. As I am sure others have said. The guitarists and bassists are High School buddies from Kings Park Long Island. The original drummer, founding member and namer of the band, not the dude in this video, is from Long Beach Long Island and I believe the keyboardist went to Juilliard in Manhattan. The singer is from Canada. The there Long Island boys met in Berkeley college and eventually dropped out to form DT. And this is not even their most complex song. Nor the best guitar solo. Most people say this drummer is a little better than the original dude but I prefer the original drummer. He helped write the songs and I think their songs are better with him. Also, the first drummer is more of a showman.

I can't get a date for when they changed it other than sometime before their first release, "When Dream and Day Unite." But that was probably around 1988. For some reason I never seem to count the Majesty days.

Pretty soon and your gonna run out of Frank, then where do you go. Dream Theater views are going thru the roof. The last request that I gave you ran into a wall. I didn't understand why you weren't interested in More subs and views. The last request was a band that consist of three members of Dream Theater, hence continuing the trend. I had unsubscribed from your page cuz you just don't seem interested in them to much. Liquid Tension Experiment was the group I requested. But you have other ways that gets plays. Ok.. If I'm gonna pay 5 dollars a month then I should get at least one request. Otherwise I'm just paying for a vote, and that isn't why I subscribed. I was wanting to help your page out. DT have never been the same for me since Portnoy left. He WAS the spearhead for the band. He wrote so many of the songs and was the main creative force when it came to writing new material. He wrote the set list for every gig and did all of the bands social media and promotion even when the internet was barely a thing!
      I like Mangini, hes technically probably better than MP, but that doesnt mean much. Its what's inside a persons head that matters when it comes to writing, and they lost something huge when they lost MP. As for Labrie, I've never rated him as a singer. Not a fan of his operatic style and he sings flat at 90% of the shows ive seen. In fact, wasnt it MP's dislike of Labries voice and wanting a new singer that eventually caused him to leave? The best thing about DT has always been the Portnoy, Rudess, Petrucci and Myung chemistry.
      But to say DT are predictable or boring is a pretty odd opinion to have for a band that creates music that not many others can. Name me another band that sounds like DT and then I'll agree.

The main creative force is everyone... except labrie. Labrie has had a bad time taking care of his voice. I dont see where u get operatic thou
