@@MissLoonasSpeech Because all of the musicians in this band have high level of musician's, you can cover all metal songs from all band but its very hard to cover dream theater songs
@@homeboy8546 No doubt about that, but that doesn't answer my question which I really asked out of curiosity. Watchtower are probably the most technical Thrash Metal band (though I wouldn't mind if anyone could prove me wrong).
@@MissLoonasSpeech there's what is complex and technical and there's what seems complex and technical, watchtower are amazing band, but musically waaaaaaay less complex of what dream theater can be
Funny you spoke of wormholes at one point, since discovering Dream Theater is a total wormhole, as in waaaaay beyond a simple "rabbit hole". Their music spans over 3 decades! These guys are so good that when 3 of the original members were studying at Berklee, they were given a classroom to rehearse in to their heart's content, and fellow students remember them for their very long and LOUD sessions. So frickin' good that their current keyboardist, Jordan Rudess, was accepted by Julliard at the age of 9. All four instrumentalists consisetently rank among the world's top 5 in their respective instruments (John Petrucci - GOD - on guitar, Jordan Rudess - the Wizard - on keys, John Myung - the Silent One - on bass, and their current drummer, Mike Mangini - the Robot (who to his credit, managed to replace the irreplaceable Mike Portnoy, an absolute monster both as a drummer and composer/songwriter). Watching them live is an incredible experience - loads of UA-cam videos of their jaw-dropping live performances, but seeing them up front and in person - there are no words! As for the song being a ballad, like others have already commented, it's definitely not one. If you want to hear a ballad from them, check out Hollow Years (live at Budokan) or The Spirit Carries On (Live at Luna Park) to see the difference. Also, the live version of Hollow Years at Budokan has one of the most bad-ass guitar solos ever played (it was added on for the occasion, their studio version has no guitar solo). You guys just got a new subscriber just because you GET IT - you recognized and appreciated DT's excellence from the very moment the video started. Rock on!!
Rush, Yes and Metallica were very big influences along with a bunch of other people. React to the song Octavarium for a list of them. It's a 24 minute long song.
"How do you write a song like this?" Be Dream Theater. Since you guys are new to this band, you have 30 years of this kind of music (often better) to expect from this band. And few of their songs are short. We're talking 9 - 43 min. . . Yeah you read that right. lol And it's ALL this delicious. Anyone that appreciates Dream Theater gets a sub from me. :P
ABSOLUTELY NOT a ballad my friend.g. This song is sheer nasty (in a good way, of course). And second that part after the solo(s)….half was guitar and the other part was keyboards. That weird part you thought was guitar was actually synthesizer/keyboards 👍
Level technical of Metal:
-Easy
-Medium
-Hard
-Nightmare
-Dream Theater
I'm curious: Where would you put Watchtower in that list?
