  • We made it to India!! Come with us as we explore Old and New Delhi during as we develop our first impressions of India. In this video we really wanted to show the multiple faces of Delhi; a city most commonly known to the Western World as a place of noise, dirt, and poverty. And while that can all be found here, New Delhi and Cyber City showed us that the opposite things can be found here too: quiet, cleanliness, and wealth. There is so much to discover in Delhi!
    If you are visiting Delhi soon or this is your first time in Delhi as well, then this video will also help you plan your time in this giant city! To really develop our first impressions of India, we wanted to explore as much of Delhi as we could (without overloading this vlog too much!). Over the course of a couple days (thanks rain), we were able to see India Gate, Delhi's Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, Jama Masjid Mosque, Connaught Place, Cyber City and Cyber Hub (which are just outside of Delhi in an area called Gurugram), and of course we rode the top-notch Delhi Metro!
    Delhi is a huge city, and the two areas we were primarily in for this video are called Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi is the oldest part of the city and was originally built during the Moghuls. There are incredible pieces of history in Old Delhi and the infamous Chandni Chowk is here. Chandni Chowk is an area well known for being home to many, many shops and residences packed tightly together. Because it was built before cars were invented, the roads are more like small alleyways. There is never a dull moment here! New Delhi was designed by the British during colonial times and tends to attract high-end restaurants, hotels, and shops.
    It is very common for travelers to make Delhi the first stop on their visit to India because it is part of the Golden Triangle in India. The Golden Triangle is made up of Delhi, Agra (where the Taj Mahal is), and Jaipur (commonly called the Pink City). For tourists who are short on time, visiting the three cities in the Golden Triangle is a great way to get a small peak into what India is like! Like so many others, Delhi was our first stop in this new country and was a great place to make our first impressions of India!

    In India 95% of the people taking photos with you are mostly Tourists themselves (From other states/villages of India). They had never seen any foreigner in their life and may not see in future. They are just fascinated to see how differently beautiful people are around the world. Citizens of Big Cities like Delhi Mumbai etc rearly do that because it's common for them.
    It was really nice watching your Videos.

      @rahulsharma Tourists have been coming to delhi since past 70 years. At all times it is over crowded with foreigners.
      Chandni chowk is a wholesale market. And the oldest residential area.
      Many ppl don't like foreigners. Because they come with cameras and don't take permission to film. Indians are wary of getting into the camera because they know that these vdo is going to be uploaded, judged criticised and ultimately can hamper their business. That's why they are suspicious of camera weilding foreigners and try to avoid them
      Some kids or other ppl also try tease, flock, harass the foreigners to pull their leg.

    Please visit Kailasa Temple in Ellora Caves in Maharashtra India. It's considered greatest architecture in history of mankind, because the way it was built seems unbelievable for even today’s time. The temple was built at least 1300 years ago. No stone or nothing was added they carved a mammoth Granite rock/mountain with intricate details. The Kailasa Temple is notable for its vertical excavation-carvers started at the top of the original rock and excavated downward. At least 400000 tonnes of stones have been removed in the process. About 7000 workers and their future generations worked for 135 years. One small mistake and you have to rebuild the whole temple because it's carved into the rock without adding anything, that too up to down.
    It has secret underground tunnels believed to be leading to underground city which is even more mysterious and government have totally locked that down and no researchers are allowed to go inside.

    • @naveex6968
      @naveex6968 Рік тому

      During the reign of Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb, the temple was ordered to be demolished along with other temples nationwide.
      For the task in 1682 he sent over 1000 labourers especially to destroy Kailasa Temple; they worked for over 3 years, but could barely manage to disfigure a few statues here and there. It's the solid granite rock that's made so hard to destroy.
      Despite of his repeated efforts to tear down Kailasa Temple, Aurangzeb did not found success. Finally he gave up on destroying this temple. This is the same person who has destroyed thousands of ancient temples in India but he could not destroy this one so you can understand the the magnanimity of the temple.
      other than Kailasa Temple there are 99 other cave temples there (100 total) of which 34 are open for public viewing. whole temple complex known at Ellora Caves.

    For my India dostos(friends): Why is it called a tuk-tuk?
    Thailand. The auto-rickshaw, called tuk-tuk (Thai: ตุ๊ก ๆ, pronounced [túk túk]) in Thailand, is a widely used form of urban transport in Bangkok and other Thai cities. The name is onomatopoeic, mimicking the sound of a small (often two-cycle) engine. Americans have adopted this way of describing the "Auto".

    The reason why you see so many Rangoli in front of shops and houses is because - We try to welcome the gods and goddesses to our shops and houses. if you travel to south India, ( Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh), you will see they make something like every morning.

    How do you pick your accommodations when you visit a new country like India? And when you stay for a longer amount of time, do you stay at multiple places or book one place for an extended duration?

    • @nicoleandmico
      @nicoleandmico  Рік тому +4

      Hey there! We use booking.com a lot here in India, but we also use Air BnB quite a bit around the world. We have found Air BnB isn't very developed here in India, so we are using booking.com a lot. We typically try to stay in one accommodation for each new city/town we visit as moving around every couple of days is really exhausting when traveling for extended periods of time. We stay in each location an average of about 5 days (Delhi was an outlier though - we were there for 2 weeks)!

      Exactly the old delhi chandni chowk businessmen and traders are wealthier than the slick gurgaon white collar or blue collar working class.

      A trader might be sitting in his white pajama and chewing paan but actually wearing diamond rings and sitting on 10 bug bungalows and property all over Delhi.
