One thing that has always stood out to me about Tweed Deluxe breakup is how the treble notes will sag as well as the bass notes. Other circuits, if you get notes on the lower strings just sagging, notes on the higher strings will barely be breaking up, and if you crank up to get the higher notes sagging, the lower notes will be totally inarticulate mud.
@@cattlebuyer The Tweed Deluxe specifically is a very different amp design to the more modern Fender. As such, it's kind of it's own thing and can't be recreated with how the RevivalDRIVE is designed.
@@lewistoms6988 You should probably place drive pedals BEFORE the DELUXE55. The DELUXE55 is effectively an amp, so would take pedals well. You also wouldn't run an amp into overdrive pedals.
Awesome demo Andy! I could hear some cool Martin Rotsey (Midnight Oil) tones coming through there. Origin Effects may have just put out the pedal of the year!
Watched this video two weeks ago and loved the pedal only two available on Reverb so I ordered the one from England just got it the other day and it is a very useful pedal that I have just started to explore thanks Andy.
I have a Mesa California Tweed for my live playing, but this would be perfect for an ampless rig for venues that don’t care too much for tube amps. Great playing as always Andy!
you totally nailed this! This sounds like the 'ultimate' Tweed Deluxe in a box pedal, be curious how it sounds against the Catalinbread and the Luis pedals, mind you the pickups completely change how the amp reacts! The Tweed 'jangle' you talk about is essentially the sound/'tone' of the Velvet Underground!
These are built so well and sound great but they are EXPENSIVE and the UA Woodrow is already so good, with several different cabs, mic vol, and the fantastic "room" control all tweakable straight from the pedal. Plus, ready to go straight into the house with the built in IR...genuine amp substitute. If origin were able to produce something down range I'd be very interested. But, they're doing their own thing and people love their stuff.
This seems like a very cool pedal. I'd be curious how it compares to the UA '55 Woodrow. I like that OE have provided free IRs--I'll have to pick them up. It would be even cooler if they provided some IR loading software for computers, though I know those are readily available. It's obvious they recognize the competition from modeler/IR boxes on the market, and IR loading software would even things in my estimation.
Wow!! -- you had me with Cinnamon Girl -- what a sound!! I need one and I am going to have to go off and find some TAB - whats the tuning on that one? Maybe my favourite tone you have had for a while - and all the others are amazing too 😆
Love how you busted out "Kennedy Girls"! I've always wondered if Roger Clark was thinking of Arnold Schwarzenegger, or just tapped into the universal consciousness to write that one.
Hard to compare analog and digital but Woodrow includes the IRs and is stereo --- so apples and oranges but on the tone alone, I found them very similar. I personally like the feel and immediacy of analog for this type of pedal.
Incredible tones in that intro Andy, lovely to hear some Crowes and not the usual songs! I use a Crazy Tube Circuits Falcon for a similar Tweed on fire tone, how does the Deluxe55 compare? I'm using the Falcon for a Neil Young gig and absolutely love it. This seems quite expensive, even for an upgrade.
You always quote my record collection in your demos. That’s great!! This particular TBC record is so cool and highly underrated!! 🖤 …It’s alright, hey Lawdy Mama, it’s alright! 😊
Hey Andy, yet another great demo. I heard Neil's Deluxe back in 2004 from the stage, in a seat 4 rows from front. It peeled the paint off the walls.. Just wondering how these Origin Effects compare to the older Tech21 pedals of similar genre (amp in a pedal format)?
I bet it was loud! Ya know, we carried the Tech 21 stuff and I remember not liking their UK Character pedals-sounded really compressed and hairy, not my cup of tea. Couldn’t say about the American voiced ones. Their direct bass pedals are obviously well renowned and worth it.
Probably not a fair comparison, but I was just thinking of buying the *Greer Amps Soma* for that tweed type of sound, but also some other sounds I like in that pedal (I didn’t want to go into the UAFX Woodrow route - not on a pedalboard anyway). But with all the features on this Origin Effects Deluxe55 and the unbelievably good sound of it, it almost feels like a no brainer, especially because in Europe the prices between the two are pretty much the same. Of course I know you have the Soma, because it’s in the background on all of your videos for years now. If you had to do a short elevator pitch in favour of the Soma, what would you tell me? In other words, is there still a reason for me to go for the Soma or anything else other than the DELUXE55 for that tweed sound? 🤔 By the way, I loved your intro jam! 🧡
Hey thanks! I made a vid a while back about it. A little callus on tie thumb and short nails. Hope it helps..Andy Martin Fingerpicking Technique ua-cam.com/video/sf24m4xF-Ro/v-deo.html
Been some time since I played a Les Lius but the Deluxe55 definitely feels like an amp where those Electra-based circuit tend to sound like a refined fuzz/distortion. Could be that Origin has the actual 5E3 circuit in there but this pedal just had more depth to it-- the cleans don't sound like diode clipped overdrive in other words.
Good point. I wonder what it would sound like through a cleaner amp that does not color the sound in that tweed direction. Great Neil Young sound. Great playing Andy!
Yep, that’s what I did. The pedal is all analog and you can keep it that way. The option is there to go direct with a cab sim (IR) if you ever need it. Thanks!
The Tweed Deluxe became more famous for its use by later artists like Joe Walsh and Neil Young than it was in the 50s when it was new. Can you name a dozen songs from the 50s that famously used a Tweed Deluxe?
@darwinsaye I can name 10000, about every electric blues recording from the 1950s is that sound, doesn't matter if it was a fender tweed deluxe or a similar amp of that time, thats the sound. Plus Western Swing and some Jazz Players.
@@snörre23 While I do appreciate that era of music, this pedal is definitely geared towards guitarists looking for classic overdriven tones. Hope you find some examples of the tones you’re looking for.
@ Yes, I’m quite familiar with the music of the era. I was just pointing out that if you look through the bit of film footage available from the era, you don’t see a lot of, specifically, Fender Tweed Deluxes in use. I’ve mostly seen those players playing amps like Gibson EH series for whatever reason.
