Triumph need to stop plastering capacity and model designation in huge font on the tank. A small Speed Twin 1200 badge on the sidecovers, and a Triumph badge on the tank works best for modern retro. While not bad, I’m a fan of the graphics, quick shifter is nice, digital clock not so nice, I definitely don’t regret getting a new to me Thruxton RS a couple months ago. This reinforces that I made the right choice
This is not a step forward. I'm a huge triumph fan and I put my money where my mouth is, there are 2 in my garage. Losing the analog dials and the new tank looks awful. 😢
For me as a ST 2021 owner the biggest mistake with this new model are the clocks, that Trident clock is good for the Trident but not for a premium bike like the ST 1200. 5bhp not enough for me to upgrade and I already have the Ohlins rear shocks which I added.
Personally think the first edition (modern) speed twins look the best. Like others have said i think the digital clock wasn't a great move, those analogue clocks looked the business. The RS is going in to bat against the XSR900, which is tough competition
I have a 2020 speed twin and agree with you. The speed twins that came after this model are watered down even though there is a little more HP. I dislike the styling of the exhaust, looks budget with the black end cap. I'll be keeping what I have for a while.
Absolutely. The Gen1's look great, everything after including this looks worse and for no real world gain. The only argument is that the RS has fully adjustable suspension front and back, but it still looks crap.
Man! I don’t see a single positive post about the loss of analog clocks. Do they do any focus groups? Apparently not! Triumph is going the way of KTM, it seems ,and just trying to piss customers off. To each his own…. But I think they should have left the dual gauges, leave the tank alone, leave the paint jobs alone, left the M50 brakes on the standard version, left the increase in HP and spent the money elsewhere. I do like the lean sensitivity ABS and traction control and Stylema brakes. Don’t know about the pegs and handlebars changing to more aggressive position? Might be uncomfortable. I did think the tires will be great. But, in the end, a 2024 and older would be better for me !
Triumph really missed the mark here, people get a triumph for that retro styling with a modern performance, but the new digital dash and some sci-fi looking parts around the bike, not to mention the unnecessary increased in price ,shows just how detached Triumph is with their fans.
I was bummed when I heard that they were coming out with updated Speed twins this year because I purchased a new one in February. After watching this and seeing what they did, I'm feeling pretty good about what I have. I love the two gauges on the previous models. I definitely will not be trading in for one of these.
The white colour scheme looks good. The loss of twin clocks is a mistake, in my opinion. The wheels are a lame upgrade, and the tank indentations look awful. Hmm, I'm not convinced by this one. Thanks for the update Bob 👍
I have a 23 Speed in orange and I was (well my wallet was ) getting worried that the new one would temp me away from what was going to be a keeper. No worries anymore. To me, they have ruined it. The styling is weird and makes it look bent in the middle, the lines don`t flow with the motor. The new clocks are horrid, I could go on but I think I have the best one already. Sorry Triumph, its a nil pour from me. My wallet can relax now...
I had a Thruxton r and sold it due to the lack of comfort. I bought the 24 Stealth Speed Twin which is perfect (apart from the suspension), that should have been the main upgrade with perhaps an optional quickshifter!
The Speed Twin 1200 has been on my target radar for quite some time. Now I have to remove it as a potential purchase. - The Dash is unacceptable for a top retro bike. - The Headlamp is not fitting with the rest of the bike. Too small , too modern ,too flat. It' s like a copy of the xsr headlamp - The tank is too modern - The downgrade in breaks and other details should compensate for the better rear suspension so that the price should stays the same instead of rising. - Engine upgrades are unnecessary. It should be the main difference between the basic and the RS model - "...Modern Geometry..." on a Retro Motorcycle ?? Are they serious. And what was wrong with the geometry on the previous models to begin with? - And how about these side panels? If you look only at these panels, you'd think they come from a streetfighter bike rather than a retro one. Completely disappointed, turning now to Kawa who knows how a proper retro should be
Once again a mix of welcome and unwelcome updates. The paint jobs, suspension, expanded ergonomic options from the factory, and cornering ABS are big wins. The brakes, price, and especially the dash, are misses. I hate that Triumph are foisting this split TFT unit on us with every model update. The added power, updated design, cruise control, and RS-only quickshifter are fine but unnecessary. Great video as always, Rob! Can't wait for more Full Tank.
I can't believe they got rid of the dual clocks! Deal breaker for me. They pulled the clock from the Trident, a much cheaper bike. I have gone back and forth between this and the T120. This made the decision for me.
I will get in line to get a 1200 RS when it gets to the States. It NOW has everything I want, classic looks, cruise control, rider modes, comfortable yet sporty riding position (why I never bought a Thruxton), quickshifter and updated dash. The bike is gorgeous!!
Looks like I will be keeping my 2023 Speed Twin and adding some after market rear suspension, basically they have raised the price considerably and taken the premium items from the base model so a double hit.
I have the speed twin 1200 2024 in stealth red, sublime, but then it’s what suits me and my bucket list bike. TBH not sure about these updates, what’s with the single clock!? Which joker came up with that?
That big 1200 graphic looks tacky. Dual clock omission I think has been properly roasted already. Cruise control is nice. That little area under the seat where the carbs are looks too modern and angular to fit the aesthetic. I like the RS just fine but I’ll stick with my thruxton R.
I think the previous gen was the best looking. The balance between modern and classic design elements was spot on. I think dual clocks should have been retained, perhaps only updated with small color tft readouts inside. Previous tank shape and headlights suited the bike's heritage inspired looks more.
Oh dear, what have Triumph done! they use cheaper parts on the base model ,yet charge more. The RS gets a cheap dash from the 660. and they want that much for it. They are having a laugh. The 1200 graphic on the tank is so cheap and tacky. The RS in orange is ok but the white and black band at the bottom of the tank cheapens the look. For 14.5 k I would expect nothing less than Ohlins front forks.I was genuinely considering buying the new 1200 RS but not anymore. They can forget it. Looking at all the other comments here Triumph have dropped a huge clanger and have already lost sales on the new RS. What were they thinking.
I'd rather have the last gen and just buy some better rear shocks, looks less retro than I like, I'd never buy the RS as it's going to be uncomfortable, if I wanted power and a modern bike I'd buy a Yamaha MT10 for much the same price with a shed load more power and tech
I own a 2022 speed twin and new it cost £11,200. Now they want £12495 for a down graded model? It just a price hype adding a RS which is over £3000 more? I really don't think the Trident dash is going to go down well? You think that they would give you a clock option on both bikes? BMW do.
the biggest mistake Triumph have made is to put out too many models sharing the same engine, they could've done already a Speed Twin "cafè" with spoke wheels, clip on handlebars and a different tank.. just as it was for the street cup or the street scrambler 900
The new 17" Wire Spoke Tube wheels on the new BMW R12 9T look awesome - and they can easily be converted to tubeless. Triumph needs a set of tubeless wire spokes to be made available for these Speed Twins... Alloys just don't cut it for Retro bikes.. way too modern looking. Wake up Triumph, and offer what will be really attractive to your customers, or risk losing them to BMW. I am now having to decide between the two for next year, and the BMW looks so much better, especially with wire spoke wheels! And they have more power, clean shaft drive...fantastic electronics... I am convinced - BMW next bike. I especially prefer the BMW options for the clocks.
Sorry Triumph, this 2025 Speed 1200 are not my retro style. I hope you will keep the T120 as it is. i couldn’t easily decide between T120 2022 and Speed Twin 1200 2022 but i own now the T120.
What a huge mistake getting rid of the twin clocks. It just looks almost like a trident from the front. Considering that and the other "upgrades" this looks like a bad deal
Two bummers ....1. the headlight styling being exactly like the speed 400 ..looks like one from the front ....2. the analog dials.... Replaced something beautiful with something hideous ....
Great review but even with your usual vigour and detail it’s not enough for me to upgrade my ST1200. Single clock is horrible, not a fan of the colours, ✅ for suspension but ❌for the cans. Not enough in it for the huge price increase for me
This video is on point as expected. Keep up the good work! My Street Triple is an incredible machine but I’ve always found it a bit too serious. The Speed Twin had seemed like an interesting proposition because I’ve always preferred its look over the Thruxton (controversial, I know). I want something truly top shelf and great looking and loads of character but not 200hp and a $20k price. With the introduction of the RS it has moved to the top of the list. I think Triumph hit a home run here.
Great vid & a very interesting bike. I'd definitely consider one for a next bike. The RS is a little pricey but it's still very nice. The new clock is nice in itself but I 100% prefer the previous double clock arrangement. Would also want a top fairing option like on the Thruxton.
Oh dear. Swing and a miss… What were Triumph thinking? The old clocks were gorgeous and the new dash is hideous. Overall the bike looks cheaper and less cohesive.
£14,500 for a bike with a Fischer Price dash? Are they totally insane? Triumph has never had a clue about their clocks. This is, however, the most extreme, penny pinching example I've thus far seen. Viva Japanese!!!! IMO
I think I would save me some money and go for the 900. I just don’t see the point in the standard 1200… and the RS looks rather expensive for what you get
@@NicePantsLance the 900 has all the power I need to lose my license in one weekend. Yeah, more power more fun, but I am not interested in retro bikes for the power.
Definitely taking the two specs in opposite directions now. Std model for the chilled out rider enjoying the views, rs model for the sporty rider enjoying the roads.
Very helpful. But what’s surprising is that your triumph dealer hasn’t been able to resolve it given the fault code. Essentially keep swapping parts out parts till they get a result; notwithstanding past experiences. Stay safe. 👍
Why do "marketing teams" not pay attention to customers? Please do this survey so we can ignore anything you input. The only thing the old bike needed was cruise-control. Does the new model have it? I thought I saw a shot of the cruise icon on the new dash. However, you would think if Triumph FINALLY added cruise, he would have said something.
Not digging this update. The base version is too basic. No quickshifter is a dealbreaker. The RS is too sporty and probably will also be too expensive. Of course it's good for business to push people to the more expensive, higher margin bike, but as a customer, I'm not liking this.
oh wow that's crazy about the new IMU system!!! So I ended up buying the new XSR900 because it had all the tech and the heritage styling, it had smoother power delivery than the Triumphs I rode and the Z900RS I rode. So it feels like Triumph sees they have to pick it up and have brought this to the table. Well I don't like the triumph markup on price but I can appreciate the spec list. Go on, go on, go buy the new ones… please do trade-in your 2023/24 models…
Wil keep an eye out, these upcomming months! That’s for sure!
Best regards from Portugal 😎✌🏼

Twin clocks are a huge miss 😢
While not bad, I’m a fan of the graphics, quick shifter is nice, digital clock not so nice, I definitely don’t regret getting a new to me Thruxton RS a couple months ago. This reinforces that I made the right choice
This is not a step forward. I'm a huge triumph fan and I put my money where my mouth is, there are 2 in my garage. Losing the analog dials and the new tank looks awful. 😢
Now I guess the choice between t120 vs speed twin 1200 becomes a bit clearer.
T120 all the way now
For me as a ST 2021 owner the biggest mistake with this new model are the clocks, that Trident clock is good for the Trident but not for a premium bike like the ST 1200.
5bhp not enough for me to upgrade and I already have the Ohlins rear shocks which I added.
Losing the twin clocks is a deal breaker. They have downgraded the standard bike - brakes, tyres, clocks !
It's ridiculous, they made the base bike worse....whoever came up with that idea should be fired.
P.S. These are a great promo/advert for the BMW R nineT !.
Who wants their ST1200 to compete against the XSR900?
The 1200 is an attractive proposition in all the ways it WASNT the XSR.
No twin clocks, boo
Base model cost more than the current top spec ST1200. I would rather buy the older model especially since it is missing analogue meter.
Getting rid of the twin clocks is an absolutely disgraceful decision.
Grow up....single display is amazing
it is unforgivable that they swapped the round instruments for this digital crap 😡😡😡
What a shame you can’t get a quick shifter on the base model. I just prefer that more relaxed riding position.
you could go aftermarket like before.
If the aftermarket can do it why can’t triumph?
@@dalemeadows225 obviously triumph could, but they want you to buy the RS
I have the previous model with Ohlins rear suspension. That single clock looks so cheap on the new version.
The Speed Twin 1200 has been on my target radar for quite some time. Now I have to remove it as a potential purchase.
- The Dash is unacceptable for a top retro bike.
- The Headlamp is not fitting with the rest of the bike. Too small , too modern ,too flat. It' s like a copy of the xsr headlamp
- The tank is too modern
- The downgrade in breaks and other details should compensate for the better rear suspension so that the price should stays the same instead of rising.
- Engine upgrades are unnecessary. It should be the main difference between the basic and the RS model
- "...Modern Geometry..." on a Retro Motorcycle ??
Poor decision with the budget dash on the RS version 👎
Looks like I will be keeping my 2023 Speed Twin and adding some after market rear suspension, basically they have raised the price considerably and taken the premium items from the base model so a double hit.
Going for the old model or an Z900RS. Was hoping for a good looking Speed Twin 1200 RS..
I have the speed twin 1200 2024 in stealth red, sublime, but then it’s what suits me and my bucket list bike. TBH not sure about these updates, what’s with the single clock!? Which joker came up with that?
Next thing you know and we'll gonna have the Bonneville with TFT display...
What a let down..I guess the older 1200s will go up in price now.
It won’t be a mixed reaction with these clocks. I expect everyone will hate the change
That big 1200 graphic looks tacky. Dual clock omission I think has been properly roasted already. Cruise control is nice. That little area under the seat where the carbs are looks too modern and angular to fit the aesthetic. I like the RS just fine but I’ll stick with my thruxton R.
Pity about the decals I actually like the Orange but hate both sets of decals.
I think the previous gen was the best looking. The balance between modern and classic design elements was spot on. I think dual clocks should have been retained, perhaps only updated with small color tft readouts inside. Previous tank shape and headlights suited the bike's heritage inspired looks more.
So they’ve downgraded the bike and it’s more expensive 🤦🏻
Also, that single clock 🤷🏻♂️
What were they thinking.
love the speed twin but that clock oh no have it has a option by all means but keep that classic twin clocks look
I'd rather have the last gen and just buy some better rear shocks, looks less retro than I like, I'd never buy the RS as it's going to be uncomfortable, if I wanted power and a modern bike I'd buy a Yamaha MT10 for much the same price with a shed load more power and tech
Exactly know your market.
Personally, I thought the previous edition had it right. Now they have made it cheaper and are charging more, no thanks. 😢
Not sure where this is going, I wouldn’t fork out for either of these. I’d either buy an old used one at half the price or buy something else.
If I had to buy tech I'd buy a svartpilen. The new age looking speedo itself kills the vibe
I'd really like the RS in red with the twin clocks. I guess that I'll get used to the orange. It looks great, I just prefer the red.
Already have sick suspension on my XC. Glad I jumped for the stealth bobber instead of waiting to be depressed by this 😢
1 step forward 2 steps back. Getting rid of analogue gauges is a deal breaker.
I am so glad I bought my speed twin back in 2019. What were they thinking getting rid of the dual analog dash clocks.
Sorry Triumph, this 2025 Speed 1200 are not my retro style. I hope you will keep the T120 as it is.
i couldn’t easily decide between T120 2022 and Speed Twin 1200 2022 but i own now the T120.
Cruise control FINALLY!
Doesn’t look to come standard.
@@soggywuffles882 Not, but it's an option, FINALLY.
Not enough in it for the huge price increase for me
What’s with those graphics?? Who wants something like that on a premium machine?!
They modernize the classic but downgraded it. Gosh, i'm glad i own the 2023 speedtwin 1200.
They took out sport mode also. Except for the5 extra HP they pretty much made this bike worse than it was before.
Oh dear. Swing and a miss…
What were Triumph thinking? The old clocks were gorgeous and the new dash is hideous. Overall the bike looks cheaper and less cohesive.
£14,500 for a bike with a Fischer Price dash? Are they totally insane? Triumph has never had a clue about their clocks. This is, however, the most extreme, penny pinching example I've thus far seen. Viva Japanese!!!! IMO
I think I would save me some money and go for the 900. I just don’t see the point in the standard 1200… and the RS looks rather expensive for what you get
The power and torque difference alone is worth the upgrade
@@NicePantsLance the 900 has all the power I need to lose my license in one weekend. Yeah, more power more fun, but I am not interested in retro bikes for the power.
Definitely taking the two specs in opposite directions now. Std model for the chilled out rider enjoying the views, rs model for the sporty rider enjoying the roads.
11:49 still a prototype, with 3D printed body of the instrument :) ( c'mon.. smooth it down with some sandpaper..) :D
THRUXTON 1200 👑
Bring the clocks back. Total own goal.
oh wow that's crazy about the new IMU system!!! I think styling could be slightly better still but now I want to ride one and compare.
Just like new scrambler 1200 they are downgrading items going backwards
They finally gave it an Ohlins? Had a 2020 and thought that’s all it needed. Well done!
