People shopping for a Triumph twin cylinder standard/cruiser aren't cross shopping for a 140+ hp street fighter. Same as people shopping for a low level Harley Davidson don't care the prices are so high, compared to a Jap naked.
The smooth Honda 4 is making 105Nm @9000 and it weighs about the same so I suspect it will do smooth relaxed short shifting. But yeah, I am not suggesting they are aimed at delivering the same riding experience tho and I do love the Triumph vibe.
I think this new model just made my 2019 Street Twin even more valuable. Analog clocks, better tank, logo, colour and headlight. It looks more modern than classic now.
Less Bonneville is good for me. I wouldn't get the bike based on the large front wheel, sad they didn't fix that bit too (I owned a Scrambler and couldn't get on with the handling). Agree on the dash but meh it's a dash.
Honestly I think it's looks quite OK on the Street Twin. I mean it always had just a single round clock. But it's a shame Triumph have gone for the same clock on the Speed Twin (1200).
Whoever is in charge of the dash, is completely undermining all the incredible and hard work of the other design departments. 765 RS 👎 New speed twin 👎 Now this 👎
I'm a non-Triumph owner and will be purchasing one in 6 months. I was interested in the Speed Twin 900, T-100 and T120 and cannot make up my mind because they are all beautiful!! The good thing about this update is Triumph made it easier for me to decide which bike I'll be buying. It'll be between the T100 and T120. The ST900 was gorgeous and I think they ruined it. I don't think it'll be their "top seller" any more. YMMV.
They are called modern classics. They can’t stay the way they were forever. Most people here are starting to sound like old school Harley riders that want to be buried with their bike. Rest in peace!!
I get your point. But maybe it doesn't hold as much value as you think. If younger riders really didn't like the look of older styles, then they don't want a classic look at all. So clearly we are talking about a balance of older styling with modern features and performance. Do young and new riders really not want a double dial dash over a single dial dash? I am not convinced on that. I would say one of the biggest reasons for this change is about making production more efficient and therefore more profitable.
Very beautiful overall design effort. The main difficulty to accept is the substitution of the twin classic clocks for this round modern dash. Didn’t like it on the 1200 Scrambler X, and surely, also on the speed twin lineup.
The Speed Twin 900 and the Street Twin it came from always had a single clock, but it was a nice big analogue unit with a small LCD window in the bottom half.
Yeah, Manufacturers are aiming to increase their profits and this electronic kind of IKEA tft’s oriental made gadgets are filling nowadays all brands. It looks cheap and not appealing on a classic style bike. They’re everywhere…it’s an invasion. Sadly we’re becoming more and more limited to this options on new bikes. Everything is plastic 😢
Like the forks, do not like the tank, headlight or exhaust. Very happy with my 2020 Street Twin. It has been a great bike. Love it around town commuting, and yes it does run out of steam, but oh, oh so good on the back roads. Especially after tuning the front suspension (spring upgrade and oil weight change) and upgrading the rear shocks. Always fun, fast or slow, but great fun on back roads in the hills and twisties. Like the conti road attack tires, and they sell ones that fit the front.
Looks stunning and the colour scheme is awesome! Having said that i think, Triumph is going insane with the pricing, even in the Indian market due some unfair taxes the price has gone so high in the last few years.
On my 2016 Street the brakes an suspension were very poor sinds I got the bike. So good improvements there. But the large clock and Bonneville tank gives character to the old bike and I will miss them. I Might buy a 2022 Speed Twin 1200 this week because I miss my old 900..
14:18 bro! £310 extra for Cruise Control? Come on! It should be a standard feature @triumph Honestly, as you said, the new trident seems to be a better option.
I am so happy i just bought the 2024 version. Dash, exhaust, headlight, tank, seat Brembo brakes - all that looks better. You can find some good offers for new „old“ models now, because they have to be registered this year. From 1.1.2025 all new registered bikes need Euro 5+
Some nice updates unlike the Scrambler 1200X IMO, which just got stripped of all the premium stuff this year. This update seems more correctly done, even though we lost that Brembo name on the caliper. It always seemed a bit confusing to me why they had a T100 and a Street/Speed Twin. They seemed like almost the same bike before, and I wouldn't have put "Speed" in their name, personally. This one at least looks a bit Speedier, even though I generally prefer the Classic style Triumphs myself. I like the new wheels, paint, suspension updates, tank, seat, and the larger brake disc. I prefer the old clocks, side covers, and headlight bracket though. This would be an awesome first bike if it weren't for the near $10K price. A premium first bike let's say. Then again, if you were downsizing a bike collection, and wanted just a nice clean one and done bike, this would also not be a bad choice.
I always thought they were the same as my scrambler and just 5 speed. Glad to hear i’m wrong and look forward to seeing what dif the extra gear makes. Great vid thanks
Cruise control, 6 speed transmission, brembo brakes, led lights and classic colors. Those are the things that we need Triumph. The only thing good thing mentioned is the usb charger 🙄.
I like that colour. Looks cool. I do wish they would have took a blast from the past and made it look more like the Street Cup with a dual dash and bar end mirrors. Good review. Cheers!
Yes, there was that voice in the back of my head, still is really, that wants me to have the 1200. However, I still have so much fun with the bike and the thing still rips. In terms of insurance and mpg, the 900 is better. I also liked how the 900 looked more bonnie than the 1200 (something MY2025 lacks now). Truly dont regret getting the 900 over the 1200. I plan to add a faster bike down the line, but that bike will be a striple likely.
I know that I was always begging Triumph to bring back their experimental, unusual yet beautiful vivid colours... But I think I would go with the gray here, since it shows much clearer the lines and curves of the tank - and ultimately the whole bike. These stripes, while they look great on the new Trident, they don't seem to fit this bike's curves. A single colour option is much better here.
Two types of people that liked this year model: current owners seeing their previous model worth a lot more and RE dealerships seeing their Interceptor sales going exponentially.
I currently ride a Tiger 900 GT pro, which is perfect for adventure touring and a bit much to deal with as a commuter. I happen to be 60, arthritic, and short. In a year or so I will probably hang up my touring boots and downgrade to a commuter bike. My favorite thing about the 900 was always the seat height & I don't relish having to pay extra to keep it low, but the new suspension and new dash were must haves for me. The only other complaints are the long gears on the 5 speed, and not losing more weight. Ultimately it will come down to this bike vs the Scrambler Icon but I like the aesthetic of the Triumph more. If my wife puts up with it maybe I'll keep the Tiger and add the 900?
Nice update. My old ST900 was a great bike, I loved the engine, transmission, and especially the 5 long gears, so much better than 6 gears. I would have preferred a taller seat, the much better dash from the Trident, and cruise control. Triumph ticked all those boxes, well done. My only negative would be if they were changing the tank, make it bigger to extend the range.
Get a 2024 model still selling them & be around for another 6months. I owned a Interceptor 650 & now own a 2024 Speedtwin 900 I would definitely go for the 2024 Speedtwin or T100 before 2025 model comes out or if have to wait till 2025 get a T100 but like I said 2024 model be around for awhile.
This renewal doesn’t suit my taste at all. It’s far from being ‘a big thumbs up from me’-quite the opposite! The Speed Twin is losing its roots and its timeless, consistent style, increasingly resembling a standard Asian or Indian bike. Fortunately, I bought the previous version in the classy British Racing Green with a black stripe. From me, it’s a thumbs down! The Speed Twin is no longer an option.
Vast improvement on outgoing model could be tempted as the 1200 is to pricey for me but I'm more interested in the new 800 Sports Tourer that's coming shortly.... Much as I like the comfort off the Adventure bike my heart has always been with Sport Tourers
Was never a fan of the single analog dash on the speed twin 900s that didn't even show the revs. I actually see this updated dash as an upgrade even tho everyone hates it. Tells u everything u need to know when you're riding
Noooo! They changed the exhaust from the all Stainless Steel silencers. That was the best part. I have been thinking of upgrading to a Speed Twin 1200 but I would have to find old street twin exhaust to hack on.
If they want to call it a "Speed Twin" I just wish they put a 17" wheel on the front 😢 It's already very tempting, but that 18" front kills it for me. Guess I'll have to wait a few years for the next major update
No, I really wish I had kept my 24 model! Have to admit I don’t like this new iteration. For many reasons. But sometimes they look better in the flesh.
Things I like: The new side panels The less scalloped seat - although it used to be the comfort option and the lower seat was standard so it's not actually new. The fact cruise control is at least an option - although really given that it's basically a software tweak it should be standard. Things I'm ambivalent about: The new brakes The new forks Things I don't like The new headlamp - the brackets seem really fussy and look plastic-y compared to both the old model and the similarly styled brackets on both the 400 and 1200 models. Triumph if you're going for a shared design influence then actually carry it across the whole model range. That effing LED/TFT hybrid dash - don't get me wrong, I've nothing against digital, it's the fact it looks so cheap, the LED panel on the top looks like something from an aftermarket catalogue circa 1998 and as for the the square TFT in the bottom. The whole thing looks cheap like Triumph are running to catch up with the idea that TFT screens are cool (they're really not) and have bodged together some bits from AliExpress into the previous round instrument binnacle. Triumph if you're going to do TFT at least do it properly, a round screen that fills the entire space please. And if you don't know how to do it, go and look at an Indian, or a Samsung Galaxy Watch or, or... ANYTHING ELSE THAT IS ROUND.
Why should the cruise control be standard? It still costs money to produce the materials for the controls, to manufacture the controls, have developers develop the software for controlling the throttle inputs, and have workers add it to the motorcycle.
Haha we all saw the Tiger 800, tbh not that special as far I could see. We need a tiger 800 with the spirit of a Multistrada Pikes peak and XS1000R. Wheels from the Street RS, stiff front fork with less travel.
I think it's just a normal 800cc tourer than a tiger 800. Wouldn't make sense have an 800 850 and a 900 in the lineup tbh. Also many months ago there had been spy shots of something that looked like a street triple but had a single round headlight and an upright Seating posture maybe this 800 could be that?
Seat height was cramping on longer rides and is my main complaint. Spot on as always Bob. You are the best Motorcycle reviewer, and UA-cam content creator. You should have your own TV show.
Never had any problems with the phamtons in any weather 2 up or just 1 Loks like a nice up grad on thr new one But the USB port on the light side look a bit suspect too Weather The last model under the seat better ideaand the rear light on the mk2 looks better the mk2 light looks like it felt off my mtb The rest looks grate
I have the 2016 Speed Twin in red and prefer that still. Just do nice rich colors as strips are crap looking. I'm sure the bike is sweet ride but the black one is one to get.
My Tiger 900 (both 900's) has 94 HP and the 2024's have over 100 HP, Why did they not bring this 900 up to par at least with that? I'd be pretty disappointed with 65 HP out of a 900 (ie I wouldn't buy one).
Do the boffins at Triumph really think that up grading the rear shocks means the customers don't notice the paring down everywhere else? The tank is probably as cheap as it can possibly get now, just paint and transfers. They did this in a big way with the T120 Bonny a few years ago. Added cruise but took away the centre stand, grab rail and heated grips, made them options, expensive options too. Like others have said, it makes us feel that our old one is better and more valuable, probably not a good sales triumph, Triumph!
Love what Triumph did with the revised Trident but not so much the Speed 900's! Nice changes ruined by an awful paint job. Too bad for a model whose style and appearance are its main selling point. I'm guessing these 900's will be collecting dust in the showrooms!
Great bike. I had a street twin as my first bike. But come on Triumph £9100 ridiculously expensive. Yeah quality is there but it ain't £3000 more bike than the competitors. Sadly I moved away from Triumph due price ridiculous price increases and service prices had Tiger 900 Sport they wanted nearly £768 for a second service. I don't pay that on my car.
I’m going to make more or less the same comment I made before the video was reloaded, which is that just like the Trident I don’t like the 2025 styling or paint updates. Looking at the other comments I see quite a few people think the same 🇬🇧
Oh dear, what's Triumph doing ? Is this a classic or a modern street bike ? This bike has lost it's identity now. I endured an early street twin for a few years. I hope they've ironed out the problems with the wiring loom and gearbox selector shaft.
Analogue clocks especially on the 1200 were part of that premium retro machine feel... This dash though tech wise is up there but doesn't suit the retro theme of Speed twin series. Although i feel Triumph wants to keep the genuine retro vibe limited to the Bonneville series i.e T100 & T120 going forward.
Looks like a good update from the old model but still a five speed gearbox? I find myself regularly looking for an overdrive gear on mine and would have thought this would be an essential upgrade. Still overall I like the look and hopefully the upgraded suspension.
The worst part is trying to find aftermarket sprockets to lengthen the gearing. Nothing bigger than an 18 front and nothing smaller than 41 rear. I’d like a 19-39 at least. I’m not worrried about acceleration losses. I’m at 1/4 throttle most the time anyways with all our torque. I’ve been doing 65 in the slow lane just because 80mph at 4500+ rpm just seems too much for it.
Bob, it looks like you neglected to mention that the new round speedo/dash is no longer centered. I think that's a big mistake and is a turn off for me. Was really hoping for 6 speeds. All Triumph bikes except the modern 900s get 6 gears - why?
As a first generation owner i think both speedtwin 900 and 1200 are not modern classic anymore. They are more on the modern side then the classic. In general this is a nice bike as the 1200 version. I try to get Triumph's point on these upgrades but if they change T100-120’s as they did on speed models i will be very disappointed.
first they ruined the Speed Twin 1200 and now this! absolutely boring colours Triumph! 👎🏼 the headlight bracket also looks crappy, so does the instrumental cluster.. previous one's did look better imho. It's not a classic motorcycle anymore.
That reason for why there's an 18 inch front wheel is just about the worst I've ever heard, it's up there with "the dog ate my homework". If it's because it's inherited the geometry from the Bonneville, then why didn't the Thruxton which after all was derived from the Bonneville too. If they've made the effort to swap the forks they could have swapped the wheel at the same time.
It must be difficult to do an unbiased first revue while standing in the manufacturers building. I have always found your revues honest and interesting. Lets see what you make of it on the first proper ride. For what its worth, I` don`t like it. To me, the styling is mixed up. It`s neither retro nor sporty naked...
I wish motorcycle reviewers would stop using their height when saying whether a bikes seat height is manageable. I’m 6’ 1’’ but I have a short inside leg, so I have a lowered GS to make it more manageable for me, so please give your inside leg measurement rather than your height.
Like you say in the video I also think this is a good revamp and it definitely helps make the differentiation to the T100 clearer. I think if people want that traditional Bonnie look they have the T100 and T120 for that so if you don’t like the speedo that would be the way to go. I am not totally sure about the dents in the tank but I guess that’s to clear the new USB forks maybe they are not as noticeable in the flesh.
I like the direction they are taking this bike. However, the speed 400 styling cues are still so much better, as like the new 1200, nothing aligns on this bike and the angles are all still mismatched with the back of the bike looking completely different to the front of the bike. It looks bent. Whoever designed that speed 400 needs a pay rise and/or be promoted.
Triumph need to stop trying to make their retro style bikes look more modern ffs ! People love modern retros because they look retro but (hopefully) don’t come with reliability issues. That awful dash has already ruined the ST 1200 and the X and needs binning. And don’t get me started on that cheap looking headlamp. On the plus side I’m not a naked lover but all the developments that I hate on the retros work so brilliantly on the Trident that I’m thinking of buying one as a daily. Think it’s the best looking naked out there. Keep the retros retro, and save the plastics for the more modern bikes. Oh, and while I’m ranting put a bench seat on the 900 (first thing I did when I bought my old one back in 2016), it should have always had one, and stop charging people for a low/high seats on bikes. A bike should come with whatever seat you need, complete rip off ! End of rant, keep up the good work. PS Drew, (ex Fowlers sends his regards) 👍🏻
Hasn't arrived in Dealers yet so still can but a 2024 model Speedtwin which looks better & has a better seat, dash, tank & looks more modern classic that's why I got a 2024 Speedtwin 900 2 months ago.I saw a sneak peak of 2025 model & didn't like the new tank & seat & clock so got 2024 model instead of waiting which I was thinking about. The cornering ABS & Traction Control & uograded suspension would of been better but didn't know about that till this video but that wouldn't of changed my mind it was the cut outs in tank & 1200 style seat & piggyback shocks that put me off.
I was really waiting for this bike and I'm sorry to say it but, without a shadow of a doubt, they could have done better. am I the only one who feels like they took the front half of one bike and joined it to the back half of another? the line of the motorbike is broken in half, there is no continuity. Too bad, a missed opportunity.
Well boys, we lost another one. Triumph simply will not be satisfied until every single bike they make is wearing either that awful round split display or a TFT ipad. Great looking updates otherwise, price notwithstanding.
That orange/blue stripe looks outstanding!
That price makes the 2025 Honda CB1000 seem stunning value.
But don't sleep on the Honda, that price won't last long....
People shopping for a Triumph twin cylinder standard/cruiser aren't cross shopping for a 140+ hp street fighter. Same as people shopping for a low level Harley Davidson don't care the prices are so high, compared to a Jap naked.
hardly a comparison to smooth; lo, shifting,

Triumph is obsessed with that dash. They're cheepening all their bikes with it. Might have better functionality, but it looks crap.
Totally agree

I think Triumph's paint schemes let their bikes down. Big time.
Looks great! Not sure what all the fuss is about in the comments. Love that white/orange/blue one.
Congrats to Triumph, for making the ST900 looks even far more misaligned to its brothers 400 and 1200
For day to day riding the 900 is the best lump.

Triumph's direction makes me grateful I got my '21 Speed Twin when I did. US version is same as '19
They should allow the speed 900 to unleash the power potential thats available closer to 80 hp rather than hamstring it with restrictive camshafts
I know that I was always begging Triumph to bring back their experimental, unusual yet beautiful vivid colours... But I think I would go with the gray here, since it shows much clearer the lines and curves of the tank - and ultimately the whole bike.

Things I like:
The new side panels
The less scalloped seat - although it used to be the comfort option and the lower seat was standard so it's not actually new.
The fact cruise control is at least an option - although really given that it's basically a software tweak it should be standard.
Things I'm ambivalent about:
The new brakes
The new forks
Things I don't like
The new headlamp - the brackets seem really fussy and look plastic-y compared to both the old model and the similarly styled brackets on both the 400 and 1200 models.
Spoke wheels will make this a banger.
They need to get some decent power out of that lump and dump that oddball front wheel
I'm eagerly waiting for daytona 765❤
triumph think again. I!m still w8ing for my parts. 2 monts....
hahaha you erased the scene where we could see the new tiger800....but i have it in screen shot
@@DESTRUCTOR-jf3sp we ll see today
Love the rest, not so much the exhaust pipes
Seat height was cramping on longer rides and is my main complaint. Spot on as always Bob. You are the best Motorcycle reviewer, and UA-cam content creator. You should have your own TV show.
I like the look a lot. The red is my choice over the stripes.
Cruise control nice..although its an add-on, thats enough for me to swap this bike..
Big Peach must be giving kickbacks to reviewers regarding engine descriptions.
Yep they messed up the speed twins for good! Loat the retro charm. I own a speed twin 1200 and have been getting lot of calls if i was up for selling!
Engine heating solved /reduced?
I have the 2016 Speed Twin in red and prefer that still. Just do nice rich colors as strips are crap looking. I'm sure the bike is sweet ride but the black one is one to get.
65hp... just why.. Pick up an XSR900 and get 2x the power or there about for the same money. or a Z650rs for less.
Or even the little cousin trident 660 for 81 HP
My Tiger 900 (both 900's) has 94 HP and the 2024's have over 100 HP, Why did they not bring this 900 up to par at least with that? I'd be pretty disappointed with 65 HP out of a 900 (ie I wouldn't buy one).
No one cares about HP it's all about the torque curve, and the Triumph 900 is a peach
Ppl are not buying this because hp...65hp is plenty for real world riding.
Anything below 800mm is cherry on top for short raider like me (my height 157cm)
Nice video 😊😊😊😊😊
Looking at the other comments I see quite a few people think the same 🇬🇧
Wow , it's my zodiac sun moon rising color . But I will go for T120 😊😊😊
No, no the 5 speed long gearing is absolutely great
Sorry, but I’m glad I bought the previous version. A beauty to ride!
This is not…
Speed twin or trident that is my dilema..
Nice!
what bikes do you own?
Soo what do you people think? Will there also be a newer Version of the 900 scrambler for 2025 too ?
Bob, it looks like you neglected to mention that the new round speedo/dash is no longer centered. I think that's a big mistake and is a turn off for me. Was really hoping for 6 speeds. All Triumph bikes except the modern 900s get 6 gears - why?
Still a 5 speed needs a 6th gear !
These changes are interesting, but this way the bike lost its classic characteristics.
does it have 6th gear?
As a first generation owner i think both speedtwin 900 and 1200 are not modern classic anymore. They are more on the modern side then the classic. In general this is a nice bike as the 1200 version. I try to get Triumph's point on these upgrades but if they change T100-120’s as they did on speed models i will be very disappointed.
cruz control is an optioin in some countries; NOT in asia
Tiger sport 800 video when?
No analogue dial? Not even optional?
first they ruined the Speed Twin 1200 and now this! absolutely boring colours Triumph!
It`s neither retro nor sporty naked...
quick shifter???
I Love the dash. It is by far the best Triumph make.
Wut?
I wish motorcycle reviewers would stop using their height when saying whether a bikes seat height is manageable. I’m 6’ 1’’ but I have a short inside leg, so I have a lowered GS to make it more manageable for me, so please give your inside leg measurement rather than your height.
The dash was fine on the trident platform but doesn’t work for the classics at all. No way I’d upgrade to any modern classic with that clock
Looks like the continental gt650
I like the direction they are taking this bike. However, the speed 400 styling cues are still so much better, as like the new 1200, nothing aligns on this bike and the angles are all still mismatched with the back of the bike looking completely different to the front of the bike. It looks bent. Whoever designed that speed 400 needs a pay rise and/or be promoted.
Why are they trying to make them look like Royal Enfields. Sad, Sad, Sad. 👎
Because RE are absolutely killing it
I think you will it is the other way around.
Looks cheaper and more modern (not a good thing) than the previous version
Sorry but I think it’s awful. Definitely not a retro classic anymore. I still love my OG Street Twin, which is a thing of beauty. This is not!
Totally agree. This looks too way sporty
angled handlebar frame is a negative for adding risers; NO reason to not have a clock on every screen display !!
I hate the indentations in the tank. I guess I'll buy used 😢
Hasn't arrived in Dealers yet so still can but a 2024 model Speedtwin which looks better & has a better seat, dash, tank & looks more modern classic that's why I got a 2024 Speedtwin 900 2 months ago.I saw a sneak peak of 2025 model & didn't like the new tank & seat & clock so got 2024 model instead of waiting which I was thinking about.
