Well to clarify, this is exactly what happens in the game. Literally almost frame to frame. The anime did it better because we got more flashbacks however, the feeling "what I am fighting for at this point" hits stronger in the game because you are fighting, not just watching, and you have to fight until the end. Personally, I suddenly felt like Adam who lost his brother and he just lost it. It really hit home then because now it happens to "you". It is the same rollercoaster in the game and you have no idea where this all leads. Also, even if you are the "I dont like tragic stuff, I am out" type like I am, by this point it is far too late to stop. You have to see it through the end. If it was any other story, I would have dropped the game at this point, but in this case, you just want to go to the finish line. You want to follow 9s to madness and get an ending. I dont remember seeing such a good adaptation laterly or like ever. It is 100% frame from frame faithful when it must, and every change is mostly extra material and it only makes it better. That is what happens when author of original material leads the adaptation.
@dimel1347 I always say I'm going to drop a series, and it has me by the neck. That's just how good it is, and I'm kind of sad I never played the games before or even watched story mode to get the full story of NieR Automata. I will probably like I did with Devil May Cry many years ago. Watch the story mode for each game to have a much more full picture and understanding of each route

Normally, I would have dropped this when I arrived at this game event but there is something special here and you know that this is the start of route C, so it makes the player eager to go to finish line. Given how they add all this extra fluff in the show that is canon but can alter the experience, I am equally anxious how it will conclude imo. The anime is great because it adds so much stuff that is canon mostly from side material, but wasnt in the games and it has same OST . They also do make some changes from the game. Watching a story mode version of the game instead of playing is absolutely a good choice and in some cases, optimal timewise if life is busy. There is a lot of banter and exchanges that happen during gameplay and not cutscenes but if life is busy, a movie lit version is still worthwile instead of puting 100 hours in this.
In fact, the anime has already been giving hints about the presence and importance of A2 since the second episode through the way Lily reacts when she sees 2B. In other words, from the beginning there was already a hint that Lily had already found a Yorha who had the same appearance as 2B. And this brings us to Lily's flashback episode where it shows that she interacted with the Yorha and there was one of them who was similar to 2B. This unit presents itself as Attacker Number 2. If the letter in the Yorha's name stands for Attacker Number 2, its unit is in fact simply A2. That episode clearly ends with 2B asking about what Lily would do if she found one of her companions and it's at that moment that we get A2's first moment on screen. I will limit myself to just saying this because the next episodes should focus more on A2's past but she is one of the most important characters for the lore of Nier Automata.

back in the release day , alot of streamer playing this game for the hype content and drop the game right after ending A (2b naive pov ), and thought that was the whole game . Ending B tells you a diff side of story on same route A playthrough (9s knowledge cursed pov > you know he the most suffered character in this game ).This is the begining of route C and yes ,alot of players, streamer realize when the Credit rolls during Bunker explode scene was like " You telling me the whole 2 ending was just a prologue ? "🤣
If you dont played the game, dont play until the end of history. It is an very painful, but very emotional, poetic and amazing. You must have the genuine emotions of this for yourself. After that... Play the game! The game have a lot of "sidequests", that very intersting for the lore. About this episode, and an detail that is more explict in the game: 2b calls 9s as "nines" for the first time at the same local that he asked 2b for do that. (On The bridge of the shopping district). And this fact, turn this a little more sad... One song of the game OST that fits this moment well is "blissiful death". This music dont plays in that part of the history, But.... Every time that i hear this song, i can hear 2b crying while she says "bunker gone, that is no point to buckup"
@henyvieira I can imagine playing g all the different routes must have been either bittersweet or extremely painful depending on the choices you made in the game, and now we're seeing one of the multiple routes play out but with a twist

A2 is most important unit in this story - basicly whole line of modern day E models is based on A2 data because of her abnormal performance. To the point where she was able to impress not only Bunker commander stuff but also Machine Lifeforms network (they watch after her closely as a unit which always exid their calculations) . From character standpoint A2 is most close to humans (in terms of self-consciousness) among all Yorcha units

So 9s is always too good at his job, he always uncovers yorha’s secret, 2b is actually a execution model disguised as 2b, she’s actually 2e, so every time 9s comes close to discovering the hidden truth, 2b is always dispatched to kill him. Since he’s too good at his job, he too valuable, whihc every time he gets killed, they reboot him with completely refreshed memories. 2b killed him a total of 47 times, so each time 9s dies he forgets eveything that happened in the previous life, while 2b is the same 2b she keeps all the memories. At first when they first met, she was just a heartless model but the more she gotten to know 9s, the more she developed feelings especially for him. She killed him over and older again to the point it was unbearable to her, to the point that she told 9s to kill her, since she couldn’t bring herself to do it anymore. 9s didn’t hold it against 2b, and they made a promise, meaning 2b will continue killing him not because of orders but of 9s last wish in that incarnation. When the anime first takes place meaning ep 1 , she already killed him dozens of times, she acts indifferent and cold to that 9s, after they blew themselves up, 9s refreshed again meaning he didn’t remember anything. That was the reason 2b clenched her fist because her heart is always broken. They will get their happy ending though.

I vaguely remember episode one when they faced off against those big machin lifeforms, and they had to take themselves and their enemy with the black box. I think at that time, they didn't mention how many times 2B had to kill 9S until now in this season

For the entirety of season 1, 2b was suffering, even since ep 1 it’s the same 2b who’s gone through eveything mentioned, first time watchers would have never guessed it. In the season she was hiding everything under a facade, because of her promise to the previous 9s, now in this ep we actually see what she feels. If you are also wondering about the ending, initially 9s and a2 both die near the end, but a unexpected twist occurred, their pods the things always floating around them, they gained emotion, and self deduction. They deeply cared for their lead, so they rebelled against all yorha pods and the base on the moon, and they declared an all out war against them, and after the two pods or 3 won, they secured their data and rebooted them with memories intact his time. The pods may seem insignificant but they play a massive role in the story, especially 9s and 2bs
