A2's story in the game was only a sidequest with some text logs, no gameplay involved. The one who survives in the game is Anemone and not Lily. This specific story is called Pearl Harbor Descent Mission, it has a manga, and you can also find a novelization of it called Short Story Long, and in Stage Plays with live actors. In fact, NieR:Automata started with this story before the game was released. Yoko Taro added A2 to the game to connect them with the first story of it he created for the Stage Play. Sadly, A2 doesn't have much screentime in the game, but her gameplay is probably the best out of the three (2B, 9S and A2).

Anime is slightly different timeline (this is OK with Drakengard and Nier lore) where chains of events happened slightly different. For example in game it was Anemone one who survive there instead of Lily. In game Yoko Taro have some issues with budget so it put some limitations on what he could show. A2 flashback was cut off because of this reason. We only have a text sneak peek inside this threw Anemone memories. Also first time this story was shown in theatrical performance (come out at the same time as a game). Later on we had manga adaptation
When Rose gives Yorhas names, I just cry..... In stage drama (orginal story), Yorhas died before Rose gave them a name, Rose also died before giving A2 name.... This may be only good change in anime.
it's really sad to see how A2, or rather number 2, went from being a shy, innocent girl who was very unsure of her role as captain and who could still feel joy to becoming the ice cold and hate-ridden A2. 🥺 The anime shows this so much better than the game ever could. Even though her backstory is in the game as a visual novel, it's still completely different. I'm really excited to see how it ends. Will we see the exact same ending as in the game, including Ending E? Will we see 10H on the moon server (NieR Reincarnated)? Will there perhaps be an announcement for a NieR Replicant anime? In any case, I'm excited and looking forward to the next episodes. 🤩
Just wanna tell you Kimi, Commandet was suffering too. She asked Council of humanity to cancel the mission, like 8 times, but of course they didn't. You can see this episode felt so fast 'cause they can't show everything. I think you will love the manga/novel. I say go for manga. it's the latest versiin of this story + latest lore.
The story of this episode and episode 6 from first half season are adapted from a Broadway style musical also produced by the same creator in 2014 (10 years ago) even before the birth of the game. Both Captain Ross and No 21 are voice over by the same musical actor, and A2 in the musical is the voice actor of 2B in the anime and game.

@user-fp3in2kf3b now I wished we could have seen this in-game cause I know from a gamers perspective, it would make gameplay even more immersive
The plot of this episode does not appear in the game,this is the plot of the Nier Automata side story manga.

The Rose's flower names for the YorHa androids, is completly new and brokens me.
For me this is the best Episode of cour 2 until now. Its getting worse after 2B death and i love it. Damn you Yoko Taro

This reminds me a lot of Metal Gear Solid 2.
