Plus, I have to be cognizant of space. I'm running out and I don't really want to try to find more space. So at this point, a polish really needs to be something special for me to to consider purchasing it. Which leads me to another problem; the indie world. lol So there's that. I dipped my toe into indie polish pool this year and now, I'm completely drenched and entrenched! But all in all, this is a hobby that I absolutely love and I'm just working to make sure I keep it that way TFS!
I would totally watch a video of reorganizing the swatch sticks! I can't watch swatch and reviews when I'm not specifically looking to buy polish, so I'm glad you're wanting to do other content again.
I've only been on this little hobby of ours for about 3 1/2 years, I have just over 900 most purchased thru destashes. I stopped buying mystery polishes last year and have only picked up from PBE this year. I too was not excited, and a lot of the joy was gone. I have destashed a few myself, some from my VIP bag and just this week I posted Enchanted "A little bit rose" collection 2 have already went to a new home. My winter project will be going thru and doing what you did Hillary, I want the joy and excitement back in my life. Thank you, you inspired me. Happy to see Topic Tuesday coming back, even if it's on Saturday. 😊🐝

I like to think that you are throwing off the statistical average of polish owning in your apartment building. Just like the statistical average that we eat 8 spiders a year. Thats a myth, its just that one dude who is eating 400 spiders a day. Hes throwing off the statistics for the rest of us.

I use your spreadsheet template & love it. I use my home office as my nail space so I can only store so much. Finding what you truly like & will wear vs fomo is a process & I’m slowly being aware in real time & making better purchases for me. I have swatch sticks for all polishes but haven’t organized yet, I’m hoping to complete that project over the winter. I appreciate you keeping things real & being honest.

This was quite an undertaking! I still haven't gine through all your destash videos. Im glad youve found that enjoyment for polish again. You already know my limit is 300 and by next year's PPU I will probs be dangerously close to that 😬
I done a small destash last year and felt pretty pleased with myself until I came to decorating my nail space and had to move all my polishes out, it was then I realised I was out of control! Since May I have bought 2 new polishes and I am loving going through my collection and wearing all those polishes that have been ignored ❤
Keeping swatches of things you got rid of is such a great idea. I know I've gotten rid of a polish because I didn't like what it looks like on me but then bought it again because I forgot why I got rid of it.
Thank you for recapping, and sharing! Like you, when I fall in love with a hobby I fall hard. But my problem isn't letting go, no problem giving away polishes I dont love. My issue is lack of time to try new polishes. Even changing my polish every other day, my buying got way ahead of the ability to try. With 150 polishes I've never even worn (and realizing I keep buying the same dang purple sparkly pretties over and over!), finally reined in the buying. And then the Halloween collections started dropping. 😅
I just updated my spreadsheet last night and I just broke 300 polishes with 10 more on the way 😅 I’ve started having a lot of the feelings you described about my collection. I have 330 polishes. Trying hard to keep it under 500. That seems my manageable point, any more than that it gets overwhelming, especially with all the shifty indie polishes I own.

This was a great video, found it v interesting all the stats and the why. I have 139 polishes (and 3 on the way...) and for me its starting to feel too much but it is so hard to stop buying. Ive been trying to dupe ones i want and wear all my untrieds, and i think space will be the real issue. I live in the UK and houses r small over here- i dont got no room for anymore!!! As im eying up the Painted Polish Halloween releases... theres a slime one with my name on it.... 😂
I live in the UK too, own around 75 polishes as I deliberately planned my collection before I purchased. when I think about needing 10 times as much space to store 750 polishes I am overwhelmed, then I almost hyperventilate wondering how people store 2000-3000 polishes. The nail UA-camrs are wonderful for research though, because I can research dupes, comparisons etc.
I get you I feel I got too many polishes so I'm try to use all polishes I have I give same to senior center that make me happy see seniors getting polishes for family members ❤❤
I both appreciate and admire this process you’ve gone through. I made a lot of changes to my buying this year once I realized just *How much* I was actually spending. I also went through my entire collection and got rid of everything I couldn’t thin back from the dead and some that had faded beyond belief and some I just plain didn’t like anymore, but doing a full destash is so overwhelming to me! My problem is I literally wear every color and every finish lol. I am glad to see your approach and maybe I’ll be able to finally use it for my collection soon
I was so nervous to destash, but when I spread it out over the length of time I did it was a lot easier and I didn't feel the emotional toll I thought I would!
I’m very similar. I have four helmers and refuse to buy a fifth. I’m working through my destash. I have several shoeboxes with overflow. 😕 it really is a lot of work when you add in swatch stick organization. Mine are on rings in small fabric boxes but I need a better way. I’ve also not removed the ones I no longer have or have added to destash pile yet.
“I had to buy to remain relevant” must be the worst and most uncomfortable feeling. Collecting anything can easily get out of hand. I love seeing the excitement returning ❤
I don’t have quite as much as you or any real collector. However, even I acknowledge that I can’t wear it all. I freaking love it. But, if I have something pretty similar that I haven’t worn yet, I put whatever I’m reaching for back at the store. Or I choose to not “add to cart” online at that moment.

I’m only buying what I really like and want I’m even selling most of my stamping plates I don’t like as I don’t do it as much got family to look after first I’m also going to sell some polish and give most to one of my friends who loves polish and press on nails.
