Affinity Photo has a lot of great tools to turn one color into a different color, but adding color to white can be a tricky. But in this tutorial, I'll show you a super simple technique that lets you turn white into any color. :)
This video was inspired by Umesh, one of my Photoshop heroes. You can check out his video here: • Turn White into Any Co... - Навчання та стиль
It is amazing that every tutorial I watch here always has at least one more valuable tip that I can add to my arsenal. This one had 3 invaluable ones for me.
Thank you!
That's awesome! I'm glad I still have a trick or two left to teach. 😊
Thank you this was well needed and I'm also searching your videos for typography font letter manipulation color adjustments + much more.... crafting is awesome
Thank you! Glad you liked the video. 😊
Very cool! And so easy to follow. Thank you. Love your tutorials!
Thank you Lee! 😊

Thank you for your Affinity wisdom Ally! Very informative tutorial... your the best!
Thank you so much! 😊
Reviewing some of your vids that I first tried to learn a year or 2 ago. Really good stuff here! Thx. You have a good teaching method.
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the tutorials. 😊
Ally, every time I see you or another Affinity Photo tutorial talking about Blend Ranges, I always say to myself “‘Shh’ for shadows and highlights”. I do this because of your great video explaining blend ranges.
That's awesome! I'm glad the tip has been helping you! 😊
Thanks again for a very informative tutorial. Much appreciated.
Glad it was helpful! 😊
Thank you Ally. Last year I was trying to make a white rose half red (War of the Roses reference) and managed it eventually but it took ages and many unsuccessful attempts. This method did it in less than 60 seconds. Knowledge of blend layers is essential clearly!!
Sorry this video didn't come out last year! haha 😅
This is beyond cool Ally - another gem of info, thanks. :)
Thank you! 😊
One of your best, Ally!
Thank you! 🤗
Another well explained tutorial, thank you

My pleasure! 😊
Wow! You make it look so easy!

Absolutely brilliant as always.

So cool!!! I will be using this gem a lot!!!!
Thank you Dave! 😊
A very well made tutorial again . Thanks
Thank you! Glad you liked the video. 😊
I would make a slight adjustment to this workflow at the beginning, so that you only have one single mask layer that all other subsequent adjustment and fill layers use...
1. Starting from your source photo, make your selection (as in this video)
2. Add a New Pixel Layer
3. Create a New Group (Press 'Ctrl+G' or 'Command+G')
4. With your selection still active click the 'New Mask' icon in the layer panel - this will create the single mask that all your subsequent Fill and Adjustment layers will use.
5. Press Ctrl+D (or Command+D) to Deselect your selection.
6. As in this video, create your new Fill Layer, then drag this Fill Layer into your group and select your desired Fill Layer blend mode.
7. Add your Curves adjustment layer and tweak accordingly.
... this way all colouring and adjustments will use that one single mask, which can then be refined further - affecting all associated layers. I just personally think this workflow just makes it more efficient and easier when working with masks. it's not better, and there's no right or wrong, it's just more convenient - to me at least.
Thanks for your video, your tips are great as always.
Thanks for the comment! I agree, that is probably a better workflow. I thought about doing it that way in this video, but I didn't want to confuse people with masked groups, since some people find them confusing.
@@AffinityRevolution Yeah. I agree it would have added an extra (and likely needless) level of complexity to the tasks demonstrated in this video, since it's less about this particular tutorial, and more just a streamlined approach to mask-management workflow in Affinity. Your tutorials are great btw. and have helped me a lot in my migration over from Adobe Photoshop to Affinity Photo. :)
@@reactions5783 Thank you! I'm glad you've been enjoying the tutorials. 😊
I like to try different approaches. I end up with linear burn simply being applied to the whole image. my steps. 1.selection. 2. make a new pixel layer. 3. make a group with new layer selected. 4. apply a mask to the empty pixel layer. 5. deselect. 6. create fill layer and drag into group( tried different positions in the group) 7. change to linear burn blend. Where did I go wrong? thanks. Note: tried original image inside and outside the created group.
Really helpful, thanks.
You're welcome! Glad you liked it. 😊

Hey, just shifted from photoshop to affinity and you're the best creator for it today and sort of the first one i guess and i can see your channel going big in upcoming times.
Can you recommend some other good softwares that gives competition to major software companies? For example, an alternative to after effects etc
Thank you so much! 😊
I hear Cavalry is a good After Effects alternative. Personally, I use Apple Motion, but that's only for Macs.

Great!!!
Thank you! 😊
Hello, this is a very useful tutorial. Thank you very much. I'm saving it.I have one question about Affinity: Can you stitch fotos with it? May be I didn't look close enough, but could not find an option. Thanks again.
Yes you can 😊 ua-cam.com/video/H90fie8f2Bk/v-deo.html
File/New Panorama... Very powerful and usually requires little fixing in my experience!
Hi, is possible to change color starting from a dark one? I mean, if I have a photo of a pair of dark blue shoes and turn them in yellow or white?
Thank you very much
You can do that. 😊 Here is a Photoshop tutorial that will show you how. The technique is the same in Affinity. ua-cam.com/video/PyNcSqwLFMc/v-deo.html
What!! Wow!!
Thank you! 😊
amazing and so freakn easy to do too! haha wow
Glad you liked it! 😊
Thank you
You're welcome! 😊
Very useful Ally. TFS, G :)
Glad you liked it! 😊
Is this the same way that you could change hair colors? Or would there be a different technique for that?
I haven't done much work with changing hair color, but it seems like this would work just fine with hair.
Can you please do a video on hair color change please
Good idea! :)
Affinity Revolution thanks for the reply hope to see you do the video. My main concern is trying to decrease gray hairI know you can’t probably change it all together but maybe you can darken the gray
Is that possible to make it as a mockup and put logo/picture on it?
Ya, you could definitely do that.
If you're new to making mockups, you can checkout this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/FTVQ8N9TilA/v-deo.html
Affinity Revolution Thank you so much 👍
Thanks.
You're welcome! Glad you liked it. 😊
Why is it happening as I've downloaded the picture and once I insert or open it in affinity it gets pixelated may I know why?
Hmmm... I'm not sure. I'd post your question with a screenshot on the Affinity forums, so the Affinity developers can take a look at it.

Precisely the tutorial I was after
Thank you! Glad you liked the video. 😊

Thank you! Glad you liked the video. 😊
I got real excited until the selection tool came up 😅
Haha ya, selections can be tricky... 😅
Is it possible to change any colour back to white? Or, make something white, more white.
Yes, you can turn other colors into white. I don't have a tutorial for that topic, but there are some Photoshop videos you could watch:

Honest question: Is this Gina from Brooklyn 99? 😅
Haha I just found this photo on Pixabay. I'm not sure who it is! 😅
i love to see how you give credits to unmesh wheneven you are inspired by him
He deserves it! He is amazing.
@@AffinityRevolution yes absolutely
and you are also amazing
The operation of affinityphoto is very lagging and the gradation is not easy to use. Can it be improved
I don't make the app, sorry. You can ask a question to the app developers here: forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/5-affinity-on-desktop-questions-mac-and-windows/
Can your voice get any more perfect????
Aww, thank you! 😊
