In this video, I'll show you how to add patterns to clothing in Affinity Photo. I hope you enjoy the tutorial. :) - Навчання та стиль
If you're using Affinity Photo Version 1, you need to use Blend Ranges instead of a Luminosity Mask. To see how Blend Ranges work, check out this video I made: ua-cam.com/video/qZOyA3lNTYU/v-deo.html 😊
You never cease to amaze me, Ally! Thanks so much for sharing you talent and knowledge.
Thanks so much Jim! :)
Awesome! I love your tutorials. I always learn a lot every time. It is very easy to follow along as you explain what and why you are doing what you are doing. Of course, I will have to do it two or three - or four or five - times for it to completely sink in! Thank you Ally!
Thank you Lee! That's so nice of you. 😊

Excellent video as always. It’s really good following along on my iPad and doing the actual changes on my Mac
That's a perfect setup! 😊
As always simply impressive 👏🏻
I'm happy though to be able to pause the video to re-view what you just did! I often watch your tutorials on my iPad while I'm retouching to work somehow simultaneously (kind of) 😂
Great job multitasking! 😄

How I love the Affinity suite!
It's awesome! 🥳
Very helpful with a project I was wondering how to do. Thanks!
Glad to hear! I hope your project goes well. 😊
Nice work. Thank you.
Thank you! 😊
you can also mask out the creases using the liquify freeze tool then the tool you have used to ensure that the creases don't get liquified when moving the pattern around 🙂
Great tip Jason! 😊
You seriously made that look SOO freaking easy...I'm embarrassed to show mine! Haha Yeeep, time to get your beginner's guide!! Thank you much for the practice images too!!
It only looks easy because I practiced 5 times before filming the video... haha :)
Nice work as always Ally…. Not really had much call to use the liquify effect, therefore great to see a use demonstrated for it.
Thanks Andy! Glad you liked the video. 😊
Great stuff another amazing demo. F
Thank you Frank! :)
That was SUPER Impressive!!
Thank you! That's so nice of you. 🤗
@@AffinityRevolution The more I do my research of Affinity tutorials on YT, the more I come across your videos. I've signed up for a couple of the free courses that you offer as well. So, I Thank You for all of the valuable education that you are constantly providing!
very cool as always....
Thank you! 😊
Just fantastic. I wish I had your skills.
It took me a lot of practice to get this good. I'm sure your skills will get better over time too. 😊
@@AffinityRevolution Thank you.
The best teacher on the net
You're too kind, Vitor! 🤗
You are awesome 🤞
Aww, thank you! 🤗
Great video Ally and a useful technique to 'have up your sleeve' (pun intended) 🙂
A+ Dad Joke! 😁
thanks a lot!!
You're welcome! I'm glad you liked the video. 😊
omgggg i have to watch this again! ima follow with you next time though. I have to master this for my custom clothing line. Ive sewn everything in white and now need to add the fabric (pattern) that I customized to the garments for photo purposes. Im trying not to get discouraged. this has really helped. now time to follow along😅
You can do it!! 🤗
@@AffinityRevolution Hey question....for some reason, when i try to get to the luminosity stage by clicking the mask icon, it doesnt give me the options like you have. It just masks it. So im unable to do the highlights and shadows. Im trying to figure out why. So im stuck at this point. Any suggestions?
@@RyansUndies Luminosity Masks are only in Affinity Photo Version 2. If you're using Affinity Photo Version 1, you need to use Blend Ranges instead of a Luminosity Mask. To see how Blend Ranges work, check out this video I made: ua-cam.com/video/qZOyA3lNTYU/v-deo.html 😊
@@AffinityRevolution omg thank you! That was the issue! I think I got it now!!!
Nice pattern! I love William Morris!
Thank you! Yes, his patterns are beautiful :)
@@AffinityRevolution And of course: thanks for a new wonderful tutorial! You make it look so easy, well explained!
I'll have to watch this video a few times before I fully understand it. But this is no doubt, a very useful video. I was wondering what procedure to follow, if the shirt she was wearing already had a design instead of being just white. But that would make the tutorial even more complicated. So for the time-being, I'll run with it. Thank you.
The shirt needs to be blank before you can add a new pattern, but you could use the Inpainting Brush & Clone Brush to remove a logo from a shirt. To learn how, watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/YybYFkYYWDg/v-deo.html
Thanks 😁
Thanks Bob! 🤗
Thank you
Thanks Kevin! :)
Perfect
Thank you! 😊
Brilliant
Thank you! 😊
You might consider a video or course on using affinity photo and/or designer in building a Shopify e-commerce site. There is very little on UA-cam that addresses this need. Love your videos, thanks for your help
That's a good idea, thank you! 😊
Of all the videos I have watched this has to be the most amazing one so far. Incredibly useful in all sorts of photos just for adding a pattern to any solid colour surface that might look better with it. Must try this out soon! Quick q tho: *does it require version 2* ?
You can use Version 1 too! If you're using Version 1, you just need to use Blend Ranges instead of a Luminosity Mask. To see how Blend Ranges work, check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/qZOyA3lNTYU/v-deo.html
@@AffinityRevolution Oh thx, I should have checked the pinned msg from you 🙃
Cool
Thanks Kevin!
Dank je wel :-)
Graag gedaan! Ik ben blij dat je de tutorial leuk vond. 😊
Nice tutorial!
Have you experimented with the Displacement Filter in v2, using the Red/Green Offset method, either alone or along with the Liquify Filter to mold the pattern to the folds in the shirt fabric?
Layer > New Live Filter Layer > Distort > Displace ...
I haven't done that before! I'll need to try it out. Thanks for the tip! :)
@@AffinityRevolution I just tried it. Two pointers:
1. The displacement filter yields the smoothest results if the underlying fabric layer is blurred a bit.
2. It appears that the pattern art around the outside edges of the shirt could still benefit from some liquify filter work. So, maybe it requires a one-two punch of Displacement + Liquify.
@@markoehlschlager3862 Awesome tips! Thank you so much!
Are you making a full tutorial for affinity photo 2 for iPad
I'm not, sorry!
Hi! Could you please write me where I can find in the menu to turn on the mask more options cause I have only the basic one. But the luminocity layer mask is not available.
Thanks for the tuttorial. It is great!
You need to have purchased Affinity Photo 2. Affinity Photo 1 only has the basic mask option. 🙂
@@AffinityRevolution Is good to know. Thanks so much!
How would you use a digital seamless design on an object list a latte mug or wine tumbler to ensure the pattern connects correctly at the seam?
I have a patterns tutorial, which has some tips for making seamless patterns: ua-cam.com/video/pm-tk5x9Dn0/v-deo.html
Wow! that was a really great tutorial. I'm not going to say this right but there is a way to save those steps and repeat this so you could do this with another pattern or color, isn't there? I can't remember what it's called. Not a macro i don't think. if someone knows will you reply. Thanks again.
Adding a mask to the shirt is the most time consuming part, so once you have that done, you can repeat the rest of the process pretty quickly for new patterns. 😊
Isn’t there a displace filter, like in photoshop?
There is, but for adding patterns to clothing, I think the technique in this video produces a more realistic result. 🙂
Mozaik photo pleasee
Thanks for the idea! :)
theres not a displace effect, as its in Photoshop? Will be superfast, and much more realistic ;)
There is a Displace Filter, but I think this technique looks more realistic :)
It mades pretty tatoos on the arms (3:11)
This is great! Do you think a similar method could be used for adding tattoos to skin?
Yes, you could use similar techniques to add tattoos. Here's a video from another teacher on adding tattoos in Affinity: ua-cam.com/video/my_MiHiXsUg/v-deo.html
Love your videos. Since you are adjusting the one particular pattern itself, is there any way to use that a placeholder and dump in other patterns? Hope that makes sense.
Great!! Make a video teaching the opposite.
Thanks for the idea!
How do you open split view in Photo 2 so you can compare before and after views?
Sorry, Affinity Photo doesn't have that functionality. Personally, I just select all my layers and turn them off & on to see the before and after.
What do you mean by child layer. Do you mean dropping the levels adjustment layer into the shadows luminosity mask layer?
i cant believe that ap has such old way to select things.
i came from ps and this is just ridiculous.
Hey this is excellent!! Quick question….I need to add patterns to the same image for my clothing line. Once I do this whole process in the video once, is there a way I can simply insert another pattern and it’s automatically adjusted to look realistic? I have over 50 patterns and I’m hoping I don’t have to do this process 50 times🥹🥹🥹
I don't think there is automatic way to do all 50 at once, but after you've made the mask, it will be much faster to do the other patterns. 🙂
Another great tutorial!
Thank you! 😊
