- In this jazz drum lesson, we will preview the third lesson in my three-part series on jazz drumming approaches to Ted Reed’s Syncopation book. In this lesson, we will take our jazz approaches to page 38 in Syncopation from the two previous lessons and play the written rhythms between the snare drum and bass drum in a few different ways.

Never tried alternating measures with this concept. Done long & short notes but I'll give this a shot....

I am seeking help with Syncopation #2, Ted Reed's orange book that came after the blue one. How do you hit the hats on 2 and 4 when other drums are engaged with right hand. This is on page 5, first exercise. Meanwhile, gonna go try what you are doing here.
I am sorry to say I am not familiar with that book.

Is having the beater hit high up on the bass drum intentional?
The breater. Height is set for the best balance on the pedal. It appears to be high in this lesson because the base drum is only 18 inches in diameter.
