I met Ted Reed at a Chicago NAMM show in 1990. I showed him some applications of his book I had developed. It blew his mind. He had only used his book literally. The great thing about drumming is that the variations are infinite
Hi Sherrie I hope you are in good health , I opened up my iPad this morning and saw a thumbnail of you on UA-cam so I clicked on it and I must say thank you for you being you I totally enjoyed your video. Please keep up the good work. Kind regards from the Netherlands Nigel Burgess

I saw you play and heard you play. What a fantastic drummer you are. The late great Stanley Kaye thought the world of you. A fine gentlemen Stanley was a kind man. I know he knew Buddy Rich so so so much. Sherrie could you possibly write out a Buddy Rich exercise for me? I want to have an exercise written out slowly with sticking and then let me gradually build up some speed. Thank you so much for everything you have done for drumming. A fan of yours always BOOM
Nice video. Takes me back to Berklee in the 80s where everyone was doing this. We called it the Bible, too! I think it may have been Alan Dawson who started using the book in this way. Another book that you can do this with, if you can find it, is the now long out of print Jake Hanna book. The phrases swing a little better than Ted Reed, which makes them more usable, and the material is a bit more diverse (different meters and mixed note values in each study).

One of my favorite drum book, i still work on it, thanks for your lesson !!
Great...your providing a very valuable lesson in how to use Ted Reid's book. One day my instructor played around the kit from the book to demonstrate to me how the patterns can be played in any way you like around the kit....he basically said that. I think your instruction is very complete. I'd look forward to following along, I can see it'll take some thought, but you break it down thoroughly enough. Thanks
Hi Sherrie! I dig the different ideas and positive energy too. I never thought of playing Reed book w/ Latin or funk flavor-it’s so standard to play it with swing feel that I sort of bypassed the possibility-giving me great ideas-I’m back on the Reed book for daily practice and would actually like to write a sort of updated Reed-type reading book although this is definitely one of the bibles (no capital “B”…don’t want to upset anyone these days, hee hee….). Peace and love, hope to see you again sometime, GREG BURROWS
Wow sherrie, never thought about practicing bossa and samba with these pages 👌 Always love watching Woman in Jazz on pbs and seeing you breaking the walls down 👏👏
Alright, this randomly popped up in my recommended videos, and you've inspired me to pull out this book for the first time in nearly a year. I always just snare comped to it over a swing pattern tbh, thinking the other ideas sounded a bit silly. Hearing you play them, now I know better! I especially liked the bossa nova/samba grooves, they're going to take me a while to learn but I think they'll be worth it.
Ah hah! I started drums age 70. I only do rudiments, it's like riffing on a drone, or droning in a riff. Not bad for an old lady. I like how you explain things.
All of this was taught by Alan Dawson in the 60's, interesting to see how many people think this is a new discovery! Would be good to give credit to Mr Alan Dawson for this
I surely didn't "event" or "discover" any of this! I learned from my teachers and give absolute full credit to ALL who use this book to keep the world swingin' and groovin! The genius of Mr. Dawson was definitely one of them :-)
This drum book needs to be reprinted in modern large bold notations instead of 38 year old hand written markings that are hard to read. Music software makes it easy.
I still have this book with your notes in it when I took lessons from you. The notes are dated 1986!!
That mirror is the cleverest way of drumming shooting I've even seen haha.

I woke up thinking I need a practice routine. thank you

Thank you so much Ms. Sherrie. I learn a lot every time I see your videos. Keep up the most excellent content.
Thanks, this is precisely what I was looking for. I remember learning from this book, but I forgot what methods I was taught
Great video! I was gifted that book but had no idea how to use it.
Thanks for this. I picked this up this week based on its strong reputation, but I needed some guidance to see how it can really open up.

Great lesson and teaching style! Super helpful for me.
Great educational material, some of the best teaching available I think. A must for anyone learning drums
Thank you! I’m still basically beginner but I’ve had this for for book for a while but I’m intimidated by it lol 🥁🥁👍👍
Thank you Sherrie for putting this in a way a novice like myself completely understands. Bravo
Awesome! Diva drummer, literally!
Very cool lesson, Sherrie!
Great lesson, thanks.
Great video! Thanks for sharing!

Great lesson...curious to what your cymbal setup is
All Sabian...Manhattan Ride and Hand Hammered
Please make a video where you bust out some sick blast beats.
Looking for Vol 2, first exercise page 5. How do you play hats on 2 and 4 when you are already using right hand then.
With your foot

THANK YOU@@NJacana
OOO I remember this book
Well explained. There many more possibilities to practice with the Syncopation. Check out the books by Alan Dawson and Bryan Bowman.

She is good!
Straight ahead
Id love to see you play bleed by meshuggah😂
What interested you to the drum kit, and at what age. You know your stuff great job. Do you play with a band.
Thank you! The DIVA Jazz Orchestra
what drum kit is this? the bass drum specifically sounds great
Yamaha Oak Custom
hell yea sherrie
Studied it in 1970.

If u can’t play naturally, then practice to every song like hell
That ride is a tad obnoxious 😝
🤣The drums need major tune up help
Probably my lack of good mics...The ride is actually GREAT for acoustic jazz and my drums are tuned as I like, but thank you for sharing your opinion.
LOUDER... PLAY LOUDER
I expected to see her jamm out haha, disappointed a little.
I have several performance videos on my channel as well :-)
