Thanks Darryn for using the Syncopation book this is what I use as my basic reading tutor for all of my students.
Your lesson has given me some fresh ideas.
    Keep up the great work.

“And I’m not happy about this.” That made me laugh. My drum teacher always loses his mop when he gives me pages to work on and I’m using a newer version of the book.

Ted Reed's Syncopation was the trap set book in the 70's.

Fantastic! Great exercise and explanation of the strong and weak pulses on the hi-hat. I am a drummer alike to whom you refer to that have worked on many ostinatos reading pg 38, in my publication of Syncopation anyway.

at 4:21 you state that in this entire exercise there are no more than 3 notes in a row, looks like there are 5 notes in a row in the 2nd bar of the 2nd example, what am I not understanding? When you say the entire exercise do you mean just the first four bars in exercise one?

In the written exercise - Syncopation Exercise 1 from the Ted Reed book - there are no more than three notes in a row. This is what I'm referring to.

Checo Ruiz depending on when the copy of the book was published it will be either page 37 or 38. In any case it's Syncopation exercise 1.
