    Those LEDs do generate a ton of heat, especially an H8 replacement. I'd recommend you drill a hole in the back of that cover, and just big enough to get the part that screws in connecting the two halves of the wiring together, with a grommet to seal it and some silicone to give it an extra good seal. Then wire that heat sink up against a solid metal portion of your front clip there. That'll keep the heat away from all of your optics...which do tend to go amber, darken, and eventually sever as heat is run through them - as well as keeping all the other bulbs nice and cool, and not smothered with extra heat and insulation (from the heat sink and the insulated wiring).
    Essentially a typical halogen-based drl optic (the angel eyes themselves) will eventually turn dark/dirty and barely seem lit...that's from the heat it puts off burning the optics over time. Imagine swapping to an LED and essentially removing all that heat from the equation entirely. Except that heat sink is going to generate far more heat than the halogen bulb did.
    Looks really good though, I like how bright they are - thanks for sharing.
    * I'm editing my comment after some research as I discovered a clear difference between pre-lci and lci and as well to what I sourced as the right bulbs and what actually are the right bulbs; I'm not mind blown anymore - sorry for my presumption.

      Yeah. I burned my e39 angel eyes optics with led bulbs. They looked like garbage after month or so.

    On some E70's you need to take the wheel arch off, halogen cf xenon bulbs

      Correct, same as mine, to change the angel eyes you will need to take the wheel trim and inner wing off, not as bad as it sounds, there is a great video on here, ill try and find it for you. I think this is yours but just check

    I notice the bulbs are 180w. Wonder what oem current draw is, 30w maybe? Is that going to be really hot and possibly burn your wire?

      Just sold the car last week. On to a 2018 X5!
      I never had issues with overheating though.

    Craming all those wires is a concern for me. The led resistors get really hot and can pose an issue inside an airtight light assembley enclosure. Have you checked inside the light fixture since is your install? All good and still no codes?

    • @Techsyns
      @Techsyns  5 років тому

      Nope, I haven't checked them. No errors, still look good. My thought on LED was that this was the last time I have to change these. 👍

    I'll recommend you go with original bmw parts. Replaced the daytime running light with a chinese LED version of it. Caused both xenon headlight to blow. Be careful rather go with BMW parts

    That is the high beam bulb on a Euro 2009 X5 E70.

    • @kirvedx
      @kirvedx 2 роки тому

      It's the same on an American version too. At least on the pre-lci 2009 E70, the OEM part number still reflects the same style of angel eye as the e60, with different mounting. I did see him turn on the car at the end of the video - I'm was certainly confused myself. The LCI upgrade to the X5's is supposedly LED angel eyes, which I would think means that they're not replaceable unless you really hack your housing away...similar to the eyebrows on an e60. However, this suggests that LCI's are still using a halogen bulb - and sharing it as well with the high beam...

      Chip module? Not sure what that means. Only difference in the model is 35d versus 35i. Are you in the US? Asking because maybe they did something else to make sure it's legal overseas. (?)
