Hey guys just want to say that this has been happening for decades and most of the people who live in port Clinton have for decades not many people move in mostly move out since the nineties when all the factories closed down ! The video leads you to believe that this is majority of the town but it’s not just by the video I can only see it’s by the pier and where all the head boats dock which of course is going to flood it right by the water all the pictures taken away from the buildings is not even port Clinton or Marblehead lol . And the video is edited the slow motions effect is to make it look worse then truly is that said Lake Erie is deadly being the shallowest great lake it can turn up ten feet waves quickly without warning
Happens a lot. Northern Ohio is VERY flat. It was a large sea eons ago, until the ice age, and then the glaciers pushed south and flattened most of northern Ohio. NW Ohio used to be very swampy until farmer drained it off about 100 years ago or so.
First off farmers didn’t not drain it off !!!!! Back during the civil war it was all the black swamp and while the northern and southern states were fighting Ohio and Michigan were as well so Lincoln sent union troops to break the dispute up and as they marched across the black swamp they filled in the swamp to make the town’s and villages that are there today ! I grew up in port Clinton and this does happen from time to time! The problem is that the shore front hasn’t been built up since the early eighties! And most of the residents who live there have for decades not many people moving in to the area more move out yearly! Mostly because of the economic situation since the mid nineties! Lots of factories moved due to the nafta agreement
@@ajo7606 I don't care where you grew up, you don't know what you're talking about. The Black Swamp WASN'T filled in, it was drained, and that took about 40 years. And it was done mostly thanks to James B. Hill, who invented the traction ditcher, that dug the trenches to install drain tile.
@@cherylsibson8457 easy to do. I have seen it once, years ago. So vast I had trouble telling my mind that I was not looking at the ocean. The sight did let me understand how Gordon Lightfoot's huge ship the Ella Fitzgerald could founder in it. (Ok, possibly the wrong lake, but one of them.) I hope you see it and Niagara Falls one day too.

Living by the water is great and beautiful, until it decides to visit you. Water damage is a terrible thing to deal with.
Love Lake Erie and lived right near her for years. But watch out when she gets stirred up!
Appears that living right next to a large body of water has some down sides to it.
WOW!!!!!!!.......Good reason to NOT live by the lake. ... I live near Lake Erie though.
One place that "selling low and buying high" makes a bit of sense...
What kind of flood insurance can these folks purchase?
That's why piers are above the water, sometimes fifteen and even more. Building stairs is cheaper than a new house.
Looks like the water is so furious😲
Geez you would think it's a hurricane coming in damn

I don’t know how I missed this comment, but almost everything you said is incorrect.
Ohio have seen a lot rain one of them for 2 days rain last night
Is this something new, or something that has happened many times before?

Yikes !!
Yup, looks like more than just more rocks to pile up, and more drain to drain the ocean knows what its suppose to do.
Ahhh . . . but this is NOT the ocean. It is Lake Erie, one of the FRESH WATER Great Lakes.
@@miata149 wow, I had no idea, I haven't been to Lake Erie, I've seen ocean waves get that high sorry, my mistake.

@@patsyspry6248 You know the Great Lakes aren't like your local reservoir, yes? They are immense.
