My family surname Sullivan comes down the Súilleabháin Clan. This is very interesting information. My DNA shows that I am nearly 50% Irish and I have Iberian DNA, so does my grandpa and his brothers but in more concentration than me. My grandpa's great grandpa immigrated from Ireland to America, he was an indentured servant and after he was freed he and his family went out to settle a farm in Minnesota being the first Irish family to settle in the area and there was an article put out in a local paper talking about the townsfolk being nervous about the Sullivans, they didn't know what to expect. Lol Its been a very interesting ride to see my ancestral history come to life, but I love it!
This is an interesting yet heartbreaking story of our Irish O’Sullivan ancestors. Thank you putting this together and sharing our Clan story on your channel. Best Regards, Kevin Sullivan
You are very welcome, the O'Sullivans have an amazing history, i hope to make a video on your septs in the future but if you have any other requests regarding Irish or Scottish history please let me know.
Hey @kevin Sullivan I’m tehira O’sullivan from castletownbere. ive been in nz my whole life .. I heard about the siege of dunboy when I was young and still think of it to this day. heading back when all this covid clears!!

Very cool. My Great Grandfather, Michael O'Sullivan Barruill is from Adrigole, Beara Peninsula, County Cork I've visited there three times and connected with old family. Amazing to see the ruins of Dunboy Castle. My Great Grandfather left Ireland in 1895 and settled in Newport, Rhode Island, along with many others from the Beara Peninsula. Love this history. Thanks for putting it together. Epic!

When you finish doing stuff on Clans of the British isles you could do another series on other cultures with a clan structure, like the Chechens, bashkirs, albanians, tswana, montenegrins, iroquois, arabs, Pasthuns, balochs, kazakhs, rapa nui, etc ethnicities. Excellent video by the way👌🏻, big fan
I would love to im thinking of starting a series based on Families/Clans/Tribes around the world to try and show people similarities in cultures thousands of miles apart as well as embracing the differences. Thank you for the support.
@@Clans_Dynasties Sweet! If you find any of my family name with references to the Assassin's Creed Oder of the Ancients list I promise I can handle it! Haha

Thank you again!! They would indeed i got to delve into some of their history for the St patrick video as they may be related to the Clan who "Kidnapped" St Patrick. They will have there own video though.
Each sept will get their own video but i cant state when, most videos take 3/4 weeks because i still work fulltime and have family commitments, if this channel takes off so i can cut some hours at my job thus cutting the production time down it will end up being sooner but at the moment i cant give a date, sorry.
@@Clans_Dynasties Many thank for your prompt reply and the great videos. I am interested in the Harringtons (O Hingerdill) of County Cork. I am told they were close allies of the O'sullivans and went with them on their trek north. I am trying to find out more information. Can you direct me to some good resources re Cork Clans/septs in early 1600s in Cork?
Thank you so very much, yeah there are a couple of families thats name would eventually be anglisiced to Harrington sometimes confused with being of English origin because on the unrelated Harringtons of Baron Harrington, modern DNA anylysis by Dr Tyrone Bowes currently show a Gaelic Origin, The Harringtons of Cork/Kerry traditionally held lands not far from Dunboy so its not improbable that there were some on the march, i can confirm i exhausted all my sources and every open source i could find for the names of families on the march the names mentioned at 10.22 are all i could find unfourtunatly, i dont have a single source location although locations like Jstor are an excellent place to start as all the academic journals, Books and papers cite primary sources to follow up on.
Very interesting video. I would enjoy a video about the Duffy's. I have attempted to find some family history online with little success. Maybe there isn't enough of interest there to make a video. I don't know.....
Thank you!! My Clan videos dont pull in the views like my other ones, but i dont do them for the views, i do them because i love family histories, i intend to try and and cover every clan/family in Scotland and Ireland no matter how small.
What's next??? The MacDonnells of Antrim? The Butlers of Ormond? The MacKenzies of Seaforth? The Frasers of Lovat? Find out on the next episode of Clans&Dynasties!!!
Thank you!! I will be, My aim is to cover the history of every clan/family of Ireland and Scotland along with English and Welsh families who had major impacts on these countries.
Excellent video! Do you know if Donal Cam’s brothers fought with him and were also part of the March? Im a little unclear if his brother and Richard Tyrrell marched with him to Leitrim. Cheers
Thank you!!, if i remember correctly 2 of his brothers had died a few years before and his only surving brother was in spain at the time as for Richard Tyrell he parted ways with O'Sullivan soon after the battle of Kinsale also the fact he isnt mentioned in any sources as attending, which would be strange if he did considering his status also rules it out.
What books would you suggest for learning more about the Irish clan system? I am afraid I don't know much about my own clan (the MacEochaidh) and it bothers me. Love your videos.
Hello and Thank you for the support, is there a specific subject within the clan system you are looking? i.e the laws pertaining to succession of titles or just basic societal rights for clan members ect. The clan system is very complex and there are multiple layers to it and no one book covers all the subjects extensively. Sean Duffy Medieval Ireland: An Encyclopedia. Irish History and Irish Law" ,D.A. Binchy (can be found as a PDF online) Caemgen51 (youtube channel) celt.ucc.ie// (is a website that contains many sources including the annals) I hope these help you on your way to learning our great history, i will also be covering these subjects including your clan history. Let me know if there is anything else i can help with.
Thanks for replying. I'd just like to learn as much as possible about the clan system in general and my own clan in particular. You've given me some great places to start here and I am looking forward to getting stuck into them. You're a legend, thanks again.
