      Its no problem at all, i am always happy to talk about this subject and i will always try to reply if i see the message, as for the founding of the name i am lead to believe that DNA studies seem to prove that the McDevitts have 1 original line and that its from Donegal, i use Dr Tyrone Bowes of IrishOrigenes as my refrence to anything DNA related as i dont study this field. I havent checked the DNA to see if theyre paternally linked to the O'Dohertys, but considering the McDevitts were wards to O'Doherty Tánaiste's i would say its very likely.

    Is the name Dockery related to this clan?

    • @Clans_Dynasties
      @Clans_Dynasties  2 роки тому +2

      It is possible as the phonetics are very close, there is a no doubt an anglicised version of Doherty to Dockery , although there is an English name of Dockery, which may have come across during the plantations, The name Dockery is mainly found in Roscommon which isnt a Doherty area but it was not affected by the plantations the same way its neighbours of Ulster and Leinster were.

      For me it was simply some relatives deciding early on to spell DOUGHERTY instead of DAUGHERTY. For example, my 4th ggf named George Daugherty (like you) b. 1799 had two younger brothers. The youngest, John, spelled his name as DOUGHERTY and according to a stepdaughter of George he argued that his younger brother John was spelling it wrong - lol. Much later in one of George's great grandsons he for whatever reason wasn't close to his father or living with his father growing up and started using DOUGHERTY. So now both those branches of my known family and all their descendants use DOUGHERTY instead of the rest of us using DAUGHERTY.
