Unless it is just for the camera, you all seem very gentle with the cows. I get the feeling that you care about them, and not just in the sense that you want to get good milk production but that you want them happy. Thank you for the videos.
I saw that, pretty slick closing the gate with the flick of the bucket. Always a boy in every man. I always enjoy going along for the ride. Great job Cody !!!!
After running a skid steer preferably the same one for a long period of time. The sides of the bucket and the cutting-edge become an extension of your mind. Here is a teaser question for you that you probably already know the answer to. Why does Cody leave a small layer of steaming Manure on the floor when he's cleaning out the last pen?
Cody's doing a great job as cameraman / helper - keep him on board whenever you can. Your very smooth on the skid loader - good seeing some drone video too.🐄🐄🚜
I can feel that cold to this day! When young my parents owned a resort in Northern Minnesota. In the winter we had snowmobile clubs come up. No running water so we had to fill up 55 gallon barrels with water. When 15 to 25 below zero it was crazy. Always enjoy your videos.
11:25 that was slick how you closed the gate, reminded me of my days on the farm and some the stuff I used to do, my old boss used to say that after you use a piece of kit for a while, its just like using a knife and fork, and its very true
Growing up dad was a free lance mechanic. He bought the equipment from a closing machine shop. The purchase included a 5 gallon pneumatic grease gun. I was annoyed many times not getting that fired up when we were ranching
Yeah, it's always a big help when you don't have to get in and out of a skid loader, they are a little bit of a pain on that score. I agree, those boards really helped a lot on minimizing the shovel work in cleaning up the access lanes. Love the aerials, great job and great video. Thanks for sharing, have a safe and enjoyable remainder of the week.
That was my favorite job on our farm spreading manure no one else wanted to do it I’d do it every day great videos as always can’t wait for the next one
The dance of the skid steer. It always amazes me at how agile it is. We see you bedding up the milkers stalls, but never seen it cleaned out. I guess it gets walked, scraped out when you clean where the udders sit and mixes with the manure in the bunker underneath. Has your manure robot for the alleys come yet?
Young man, I never thought I’d enjoy manure videos but you make it worth it! Your expertise with that skid loader is top notch and your thoroughness… I like how you clean! It’s plain to see how you care about the job that you do as well as the animals in your care. Take care and God bless!
Amazing after five weeks that manure was so dry and crumbly. It almost looked like topsoil. Good that you're training your cousin. It can serve to take some of the load off you. Good video. Pax.
About the manure. You can clearly see the heat from the manure. This means that bacteria is causing the manure to decompose. The decomposition of the manure and bedding the same thing as having a compost heap. Why else would you spread it over your fields before planting and after harvesting your crops. Here's an idea. Just as you spread both solid and liquid manure on your fields. What would happen if you stockpiled your solid manure in a silo, and at timed intervals, sprayed some liquid manure into the silo? The idea is that doing this, the manure you spread on the field would have a higher fertilizer content - for lack of a better description - which would benefit the crops, and would help with a far better crop yield. Plus, with a well - thought loading and dumping system created beforehand, such an idea would be practically effortless as well as less time consuming.
I would bet the amount of liquid manure needed to make a significant difference in nutrient content would make it too runny to spread with a box spreader like they do
@@andrewschuyler2271 I'm not talking about dumping 50 to 100 gallons on the solid manure. Maybe all it would take is about 10 to 25 gallons. Plus, the used bedding would soak up some of the liquid manure. It would be some trial and error in order to find a consistent mix between the solid manure, used bedding, and liquid manure so that it can be spread over the fields using the box spreader.
My least favourite job is unblocking the beaters on my muck spreader. We use straw to bed. When I'm spreading that stuff sometimes it can be a bit too much for the shear-bolt in the pto shaft. Fun times! Love the videos.
Growing up on a dairy farm in upstate NY I was doing the same thing with a crow bar more than 40 years ago on our spreader . So much advancement with equipment tecnology since then but i guess they havent found the cure for frozen cow manure...
on our vertical beaters we bump them with the skid steer before hauling on cold days. Get a few revolutions out of them to make sure they aren't froze up. Beats using a stick
All in a days work on the farm. Cody talks to much. Lol. Great drone footage Cody. What does Cody do when he's not working with you Eric? The manure in the stall wasn't frozen like the spreader. Stay safe you two.
I ran a vertical beater spreader for a few winters doing custom work. Best thing to do when it’s cold is before you park it run the beaters once you get back to farm for a few seconds to clean anything out. And also leave the tailgate up and the ram in a few inches helps a lot when things freeze.
Hi Eric and Cody. Having Cody on board makes your great videos even better. Hope Cody stays around. Up here in Erie everything is covered in white stuff. Nice to see green fields. Great seeing your Dad too. Really enjoyed this video. Thanks.
Great Videos , You might wanna look at flipping the cutting edge on that bucket that you were using . and also will help you scrap up more the manure off the ground . I flip my skid steer cutting edge yesterday and what a difference . keep up the great videos and happy farming .
When I was a teenager around 14 years old, a boy on another farm in our neighborhood was cutting hay string off the beaters of their manure spreader. He got pulled through the horizontal beaters and survived after the tractors PTO jumped into gear. I’m sure the tractor was just idling but he’s lucky to be alive. It took a long time for him too recover. That’s been about 48 years ago.
Nice spreader it hard to beat Pikerite!! Just great spreaders. Nice vid. Jts. It also works to bump the bottom vertical paddle with the skid loader. Just a suggestion🤷🏽♂️😁
You are a master at maneuvering that skid loader. Loved how you swung that gate closed using the bucket.
manure-vering
Was 😙🤌
Years of practice 😂
If milk is the the most produced commodity on a dairy, manure must be the second.
More manure is produced than milk
@@carolynrose753 bullshit
@@brez85 pun intended?
@brez85 actually it's cow shit. 🤣
True according to all of my family
11:24 Closing the gate with the skid steer. Now that is some skill. :)
Loved the cow nibbling on the camera. Enjoy your videos.

Seems to me that composting material represents a valuable source of warmth for the animals
The sound of that 71 though😍
13:10 "Hopefully our tractor and spreader will come back in one piece" Good thing Cody didn't hear that, being out in the spreader and all...
Basic farmer's rule ,"keep your mouth closed when chopping away at frozen manure"
😅
I saw that, pretty slick closing the gate with the flick of the bucket. Always a boy in every man.

Thanks for your time and effort in your videos. Straight to business, no B/S, ramblings, and some dry humor. Perfect!

thanks for giving a shout out for the napkin holder and embracing the heart put into the gifts. I pretty sure you won a viewer for life.
Gate finesse, sweet move.
Thanks for update reminding us how hard it is in the winter to take care of the livestock well done
For the frozen beaters just bump the bottom corner with the skid steer bucket. I do that with mine. Works great.
We started doing that also after we took the pto out of a 4850 trying to break frozen beaters loose.
I really like how much thought goes in to making sure you don't waste anything. Also very nice closing the gate with the skid, that was smooth.
Good to see Cody again. Nice that he can come and help out.

Your cows are such divas, always trying to get on camera! Ha, Ha! Stay safe, and stay warm. Thanks for the videos!
I stop what I'm doing when the dairyman drops a new one.
That board you added on the one side was a great idea. Good on you!
Very nice camera work and skid steering!
Enjoyed the video

The move closing the gate with the skid steer was epic!
The things you get sent from kids are so adorable! Kids and adults both love your channel :)
11:30 that gate flip tho great video keep up the good work
You should hit the spreader with hot water from the milking parlor when it get stuck
Thanks for another great video. I always enjoy watching.
Beware if frozen crud...it can do a pile of damage!
Amazing after five weeks that manure was so dry and crumbly. It almost looked like topsoil. Good that you're training your cousin. It can serve to take some of the load off you. Good video. Pax.
It's bedding material (aka bed pack) which absorbs the manure.
Whaaaaaat?!?! I saw you close that gate with the skid loader!! You have some natural talent running equipment!! Great video!!
You can just give each beater a walk with a sledge hammer and they are usually loose

Isn't cleaning the spreader an option to avoid freezing up? Thnx for the vid.

That skid steer is quite handy though.😉
14:08 "Hey! What's Up!" 😅
How warm does the manure get? Does it help keep the cows warm?
Loving the camera man thing!!!! Way better than a tripod but we do what we must right!
Your You Tube channel seems a lot more successful now then when I first started watching. Good for you! Plus you have two kids now! 😆
