Hey thanks for watching the video!
It's good you bought the optional cow lick stabilization feature on your camera! 😆
The only time I am up at 4am is if I never slept 😊. I think I would be very cranky.
Kudos for feeding the nation.
Have a great weekend Jan from the imperial county California 👍👍🇺🇲
Thanks Jan, and Aloha from your number one fan in Hawaii🤙🏼🤙🏼
Another very interesting video Thank you 😊😊😊
Since the sun is setting around 8 pm now and Jan was up at 4 am to milk that means he put in a 16 hour day on a Saturday. A lot of hours and hard work goes into each glass of milk. I liked as you were scraping the beds the cows demonstrated that even they know how to zipper merge. There are always those that have to race to the front.
all that hard work and the end user gets a tasteless pasteurized watered down bs
@@minergate4066 Not a fan eh? I would describe it as delicious and satisfying myself. I appreciate the fact that Canadian milk is from cows that are not corn fed and that most dairy’s here are small family run instead of the corporate behemoths like you see in the states. I do understand your description though I feel that way about the nut juice milk wanna bees that are being pushed at us right now. They have their place for those that want them but the should not be called milk. I like nut juice myself. Hope you are having a good Sunday!
@@asquithmainlines699 I’m from east central Minnesota USA and I agree wholeheartedly with your entire comment except I hate milk. Here I am, a farmer’s daughter and then a farmer’s wife and I never ever liked milk or the cottage cheese and yogurt that my mom made from our cows’ milk. I did like making butter though. We don’t have many kids that know about the family farms anymore and how fun it was, it was hard work but we all grew up strong and healthy and learned a ton of stuff that you don’t get taught in school. We did feed corn silage for a few years and then quit. Not long after the GMO corn started. Now it’s hard to find non GMO grains and even garden seeds fell victim. Thank God that we can still get non GMO seeds.
Jan, pretty cool how interchangeable your family is at breeding cows. All of you can do it. You should do a competition to see who has better conception rate in your family.
Don't forget that he goes home and edits videos for us to
Another great video of all the hard work you folks have to do every day on the farm.
I loved when group 1 returnes to clean walks. 1 went for a massage and many jumped for joy after being milked. Love your vids, Jan.
Boy long hours each day, sleep well, stay safe & strong
Your videos are great. Enjoy them very much 😊
Now that winter will soon be around the corner, remember to put the " NO ICE SKATING " signs back up at the lagoon.
Nice to see the rye sprouting. I am amazed that I never get tired of you spreading manure. Great video, thanks.
I never tire seeing you work with your beautiful cows, Jan. Always busy on your fine farm. Thanks for sharing.
I like youre content
Chorin’ gotta love it 💜
Thanks' my friend Jan for sharing the interesting new episode. 👍
Outstanding video Jan! Impressive rye field. Enjoyed the video. Thanks.
You say it feels like Spring. That’s because it is Spring where I am in Australia. Ha ha.
I like your job, i respect you and your content.
I love how the cows are always so curious of the camera 😂
Very nice video Jan. Thank you so much
I always enjoy. Now when I’m at our local Dutch store I will pick up porridge I’m sure it has more nutrients then the packaged ones. We are often going to the Dutch store cheese and liquorice zoute droopy.
GOOD AFTERNOON
🇫🇷hi Jan impressed by your workload .. to be ready for milking at 4.00 every day what time do you wake up and leave your house far from farm to realise your hard job every morning ? And approximate hour your day finishes every day ? Did not realise it before today but obviously your never rest and sleep … nevertheless very hard .. congrats to you and all Canadian 🇨🇦 and US 🇺🇸 farmers
His house is not far from the farm -- it's within sight of their fields. When he was starting the lawn at his house, he hauled loads of black dirt there in the front end loader. Could even spread some manure to fertilize his lawn if he needs to.
Great video as always
Cows, especially Holsteins, are curios and have to lick anything new!
"SSHHHLllUPP ! ....SSHHHLLLLUUPPP ! " 🤣
Awesome job
Great video
Hogs and cattle will check out what’s happening in their area, movie stars !
The drone video with the spreader was cool. Good job!
GOOD JOB!
You should pressure wash the blue mats in the milking parlor. Would be very satisfying to watch them turn bright again. Great videos keep them coming.
Hi from Ontario
Long days are common on a farm. Even during the so called slow time. Only good thing is sleep comes easy to a hard worker.
👍👌❤️🇨🇦, Jan you put in a very long day,
🇫🇷 and I like your Channel where I don’t have to translate gallon volumes and °F temperatures 😊😊 you have no choice but only using liquid manure vs normal one on the long run for soils and crops ? Pro/cons ?
the cow-lick shot was great
Do look after yourself. You seem to work rather long hours.
Your rye is looking good. Are you planning on sowing some more?
Good job guys
Nice job on the video
💜💜💜💜

Hi Jan, when you hear talk about some strangers visiting your farm and driving through to your property... that was us, my wife and I. We are visiting Canada from the Netherlands. Yesterday (9-23) we were in Saskatoon. I, Erik, follow your you-tune channel and enjoy the stories you tell and the photos you show. Being so close to your farm, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to see if you were there. So we drove to the farm and on to the grounds. First we checked to see if there was anyone in the office and then we rang the doorbell twice so that you or your family could know who we were and what we were doing there. Unfortunately we didn't see or meet anyone. Just thought I'd let you know. Man, you live in a beautiful part of the world. It's even better than I first thought. Meanwhile we are in Regina. Tanja and Erik de Vries Netherlands
Sorry I keep spelling your name as Jhan. I had a kennel client who spelled his name that way. I apologize for that...love watching the videos.
Cheers.
156 is like the size of my entire milking herd
Always looking for ways to save money, I do too. 👍
Do you have any load cell on your fodder wagon? I think about straw and silage? Thank you for sharing, God bless you and your family.
Good stuff
Hi Jan, you eating Brinta brings back memories from over 30 years ago, we ate it almost every day on our farm. Did you know Brinta actually is an acronym: BReakfast INstant TArwe (tarwe is Dutch for wheat). Do you spice it with sugar of honey? And do you use hot or cold milk? Just curious. Love this, like I love all of your (and your sisters) posts LOL
Thanks Jan. Sre you going to plant Triticale next spring? Will the Raptor be parked for the winter?
🇨🇦
it is so interesting to see how different the regulations for the manure are around the world. If i am informed correctly, one is required to put the manure into the soil / cover it with soil in germany.
Would that be called knifing it into the ground.
Our milk in Ontario Canada is $4.99 and sometimes it comes on special for $3.99
So I'm pretty sure you do milk in your coffee? Have you ever used super fresh milk 🥛 ?
🚜 🚜 🚜🐄🐄🐄🐄 🚜 🚜🚜
Jan! Bossman needs to go ripping in the Ford Raptor again!
Nice video Jan I enjoy your video uploads it's Nice to hear your on the milking schedule again I Know you check the oil before turning on the Trucks May God bless you and your Family as all of you's are in my prayers always as I serve the Lord and you're serving the Lord as well as we do what we do to God Not to man Colossians 3:23-24.
i'm just curious, what's the price for 1l/gal of fresh(raw) milk in your area? In mine it's around 0,55 CAD per liter :)
A 4 litre jug of 2% at Costco costs us$ 5.29 plus an 8 cent enviro fee and a 25 cent refundable deposit on the jug.
@@asquithmainlines699 misunderstanding - my intend was to ask, how much they are paying for his raw milk :)
@@kuba729 Oh O.K sorry.
Raw milk in Canada is illegal!
Government Controls the milk market,
Zero Tolerance for those that distribute or sell raw milks, fines and jail time!!
No Joke!
Have to get your own cow, to control your wish for raw milk,

Hey Jan how are you doing what will your video posting schedule will look like this fall and winter
Can you tell us how the feed is different from group to group?
Brinta hahaha you must have a Dutch store there
How much liquid manure per acre do you apply? I know it varies with soil testing.
They're putting around 8.672M liters on 320 acres, so that's around 27,100 liters (3/4 of their manure tank) per acre.
Does the rye not freeze in the winter Jan?🤔
It's a winter rye verity. It goes into a dormant state through winter. Then, continues to grow in spring. ua-cam.com/video/HthtZiKrvnY/v-deo.html
Please tell us about your cow replacement program.
* Do you keep all the female calves?
* Do you sell the older cows to other farmers?
* Is there a maximum age that the cows are no longer useful?
* They keep most all of their calves, both male and female. Males are raised as steers, and sold for beef. They only sell a calf if they have too many to house, or if it has poor physical conformation.
* In some circumstances, yes. However, in most circumstances they are sold for beef.
* They will keep a cow as long as long as she is in good health, and continues to produce a profitable amount of milk. A Holstein cow is typically good for 4 to 6 lactation cycles. However, they have had cows on their farm that have gone 8+ lactation cycles, and have produced over 100,000 liters of milk.
How many times you milk the cows or are they milked mornings and nights
They're milked twice per day. The morning milk shift starts at around 4;15 am, and the afternoon shift starts around 3;45 pm.
How often do you dump their water? It looks green with manure.
Could be algae too, I’ve seen them dump and scrape them before. Honestly don’t think they’d leave crap in troughs
How many hours a day do your work? You started before sunrise and are still there and it's getting dark.
There are days where he works form 4 am to around 7, or 8 pm. If he's on the morning milk shift, or even a double milk shift. He does often take a nap around lunch time, on longer days, if he has time.
Jan sure does know a LOT about poop.
Poop is an essential part of the dairy farm circle of life.
The Poop Must Flow!
Most livestock farmers do. I mean I had to sit in a 10 hour class about poop the other day
Hi
Morning Jan. If you drew the manure out down to empty, how long would it take you?
If he averaged 20 minutes per load, it would take him 5, 16 hour days to fully empty it.
@@MellowYe77ow wow. That's a lot of poo
When milking does there nipples bleed with the milking machine? Or why is there nipples red after
It's not blood, it's post-dip iodine. Added by the milk claw, to prevent infection.
You should show milking a fresh heifer vs the adult cows.
Why don’t you do corn silage, seems to be a pretty big component of other dairy’s.
Corn doesn't grow the best in their area, too dry. That's why they grow more drought tolerant crops like barley and rye.
@@MellowYe77ow good to know we are in southern Manitoba we are dry but not as bad as Saskatchewan. We grow a lot of corn but a good silage crop is 15 tons to the acre
Has the family ever thought about changing over to a rotary 60 head ? And increasing the heard to 450!
I believe if you run the numbers it will show a good profit margin to pay for the rotary!!!
Not sure at this time but they would have to buy more quota not sure how much it is know but probably around $25,000 per kg of butter fat, and some provinces don't open it up all the time , so they can have control.
They would like to upgrade to a rotary in the future, but they can't afford it right now.
👍👍# 🇵🇰
Jan,when is Neline's wedding ? )
How many times feed and milk
They're milked twice per day, and fed shortly after each milking.
At what age did your Dad get you milking cows? Do you ever get a day off? The videos are great
He started helping when he was around 7, or 8. His great uncle (Who wasn't involved with the farm) was paying him $10 per shift. Jan was trying to save for his own ATV at the time. He wasn't tall enough to reach the cows, so he had to stand on a pail. After 14 shifts, he fell, and could of been kicked by a cow. That's when his parents decided that it was too dangerous for him to be milking that young.
Yes, he gets time off from time to time. He's done several farm tours during some of his time off. He also took a trip to Holland earlier this year.
Hahah verkopen ze ook brinta in Canada?
3:40 odd body-shape on cow@brush station?
That brush was tickling that heifer...or was she 'bout to dance?😵💫🤣🙃🙂🤔🤣😆
not her most flattering angle but none the less a very happy cow
Do you worry about deleting your stock of sand
They have to refill the sand room at times, but they could dig nearly anywhere on their 2400 acres of land and find sand. Not much chance of running out.
Spring? I wish. It went from 30’s to 10-15C. I want that 30 back. I need to turn into a snowbird, I think there is a certain age you need to be though. 👴🏻🧓🏻😂
