- Yamaha pacifica 611 HFM pick ups demo
User-replaced neck pick-up: DiMarzio DP169 virtual P90 pickup
Factory-standard bridge pickup:Seymour duncan custom 5 humbucker. Both with coil-tap for single-coil or full-humbucker configuration, using 3-way selector switch.
Tone control has been removed and replaced with switch that makes both pickups either humbuck or single-coil
Thanks for the great demo. I appreciate your running through so many playing styles and tones.
Thanks for your kind comments, Kevin, appreciated
Excelent tone
well explained vid TY !
thanks for the comments
hey man, super nice sound! how hard was it to replace the tone knob to have the switch, and what kind of switch did u end up using ? planning to do a similar thing, last time i actually used the tone knob in 15+ years of guitar playing must have been... never.
Thank you for your comments. It was a while ago now but recall i de-soldered the tone pot and throw away (no replacement or substitute) The switch may need some washers to fill-out the hole as its narrower. It was a double-pole single throw that just short-circuits the coils not wanted on each pickup, effectively halving them.
Hey mon, great video! Is it possible to get this same setup but still keep the push pull tone knob to control of the splits?
I would think so, Seth. i never use a tone control so removed it and put in the switch instead. From memory, I dont recall if the factory-fitted switch attached to the tone-knob is 2 pole or not, but i'm sure it can be done with less work than my knob-less modification.
The one on top of the bridge is a seymour duncan 59?
the bridge pickup (chrome) is the factory-standard seymour duncan. the neck/black one is the dimarzio
What is your impression comparing the original p90 to the virtual p90?
It was that long ago, i cant recall. But i like the option of split for a "thinner" strat-ish sound and the other option of a P90 tone in "noiseless" mode. If i ever get another guitar with a P90 in the neck position i would change it for another one of these. hope that helps...?
@@SLATEB0Y I appreciate the video. I've been hunting around for a noiseless option for a P90 that doesn't cost $120 - $150. I think the DiMarzio is a great option.
@@swandiedrich Agree. Obviously, there is a small compromise but the pros outweigh the cons massively for me. i think they do it in white or off-white colour too
