    How would Isaiah Austin's career have turned out had he been able to play in the league? Also am I alone in hating the "Honorary" draft? You dress up and bring out all your family, taste your dream, all for them to not let you in the door. Must've been tough to deal with for him.

    • @andrebryant5081
      @andrebryant5081 2 роки тому +3

      Yep that honorary draft doesn't give you first round lottery pick contract

    • @MKISports
      @MKISports 2 роки тому +6

      I hate it too. But if the NBA fulfilled their promises to him to have a position in the front office some time soon, I'll still be happy for him that his career would STILL move forward, even though he's not playing anymore.

    And what's really messed up about this is they allowed Lamarcus Aldridge to come back after his life threatening injury, so damn quick too, smh.

    I don't feel as if his growth was stunted. It was just one of those things that he really couldn't control. Overall, he made it further than most of these hoopers and now he's doing good in life! Austin you are a legend in my books! 💯

    I thought he was going to be great in the league. I really liked his game. Sad that he couldn't play. He's balling for the BIG 3 tho.

    He would have had a long and successful nba career imo. Sad what happened to him but atleast he can still play the game he loves.

    Bottomline, when the NBA saw his diagnosis the first name that came to their minds was Hank Gathers(RIP) and they didn’t want a similar situation to happen.

    Waivers, lawyers, insurance policies, and PR have the final say in a lot of decisions that big business like the NBA make. If there's a 0.1% chance of a player dying in an NBA game or practice, the league isn't going to take that chance. They might make an exception for a proven star who has fans and sells merch if it's good PR, but they aren't going to take that chance to on a kid most NBA fans won't remember after draft night is over.

    I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. Heaven Bless Isaiah Austin. Great human being, who is at peace with the unfortunate hand he was dealt. My Dad unexpectedly passed away in 2003 (we believe an embolism), and until Thanksgiving 2003 (when I MYSELF went to the ER, with what fortunately was just "anxiety"), seriously thought about ENDING my own life.

  • @saggyjoe
    @saggyjoe 2 роки тому +9

    I don't often disagree with you, but I think it was best Austin didn't get that chance. There are more important things in life and that's life itself. I would have hated to see a player who were to die on the basketball court. As you've said, there are more to life than basketball. Marfan Syndrome isn't something that can be taken lightly, and if Austin were to pass out, that would be really bad PR as well. I think he did what he could, the level competition where he played is nowhere near the NBA and the stress on the body would have been different. The NBA is a scumbag league, but I respect this particular decision.

    That shit sucks, man. They should have let him try. All these damn injuries people come in with (Thinking Blair and his lack of cartilage, Greg Oden!). What would be wrong with drafting him 2nd round or a 10-day or something.

    • @kencarsonfanboy
      @kencarsonfanboy Рік тому

      the reason he was this good was because of the health issues, had he not had marfan syndrome he wouldn’t be 7ft, had long arms or fingers that are beneficial to basketball players, it’s just really really unfortunate

    This Bol Bol is the reason I hate comparisons to Wemby. Once they start talking about how versatile he is I just roll my eyes. If you ever seen Isiah then you would truly understand how far the talent gap is. Isaiah wasn’t Wemby, but he was far better than Bol Bol. I remember watching Baylor games saying, “He going to be great once he gets a little more size.” A great midrange shooter, could hit the 3, had a handle, and the reason why we need to stop comparing Bol Bol to Wemby… HE PLAYED DEFENSE! He was a rim protector who gave the same effort on both ends of the court.
