What definitely helped back in 1998 was having family members. I had cousins who had a Playstation, another who had Sega and one who had N64. This was very helpful for kids like me who never had a home console until the 6th generation of game consoles.
1998 will always be my favorite year for video games, especially with Final Fantasy Tactics, Xenogears, Resident Evil 2, 1080 Snowboarding, F-Zero X, StarCraft, Parasite Eve, Half-Life, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Ocarina of Time, Radiant Silvergun, MediEvil, and Metal Gear Solid (just to name a few :P). 2001 is a close second for me just simply because of the Xbox and GameCube launching. 2023 will be known as one of the best, but I honestly think nothing will ever top 1998 for me.
You guys actually remember what games were released in 98 without google? Your childhood HAD to be awful and must not had ANY friends no offense fellas. But that's kinda sad unless your a designer that studied these things etc. If it's just from games you played as a kid and remember I just don't know, should I be impressed or sad 4 you? My 1st instinct is to say I'm sorry you had hard childhood but idk it might been a choice to be way way too nerdy
No offense guys this is weird to most ppl is all. My favorite heroine is heroin. C'mon now I lived life a tiny bit atleast. Lol. I just don't understand seriously. How did you all get these games? We were lucky to have 10 to 15 games by end of a consoles life cycle and my family was super poor either.
@@JoshuaFante 😂😂😂 It’s called having a good, long-term memory. I can remember so much from those years, mainly because those days were more memorable than today. I couldn’t tell you what happened in a tv show the past few years, but can recall stuff from the 90’s, early 00’s. Has nothing to do with an awful childhood, my dude.
The joy we got from going into Toys R Us, going to that giant room with all the games in the back was amazing. It’s such a shame our kids won’t be able to know that feeling.
@@HeihachiMishima48 I personally wouldn't put 2006 as one of the greatest but it was a fun year still with the launch of the PS3 and Gears. I played so much Resistance that holiday
It has most of my favorite games, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, DBZ Tenkaichi 2, GTA Vice City Stories, GTA Liberty City Stories and MK Armageddon. And it has games that a lot of people love like Bully, Dead Rising, Zelda Twilight Princess, Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Tomb Raider Legends, God Hand, Black, Call of Duty 3, Hitman Blood Money, Godfather, Scarface, Smackdown vs Raw 2007, Saints Row, Okami, Company of Heroes and of course Resistance.
I agree, 1998 is quite possibly the greatest year in gaming across the board. So many great games & genre defining titles that are as fun to play as ever. Getting to play games like, RE2, Gran Turismo, Colin McRae Rally, Tenchu along with one of my brothers buying an N64 with Ocarina of Time among others has left loads of great memories. Great video documentary, really enjoyed this.
Amazing video. Clearly you did a ton of research for this. I was 23 in 1998 and was so happy to own a PlayStation. I took it with me to college and played SOTN between classes. Amazing time to be a gamer.
It definitely was a time consuming one 😆 That’s awesome tho! I always get nostalgic for the gamers that were in college at that time, had to be so much fun getting to have one in your dorm and playing alongside your friends and classmates 😄
The GOAT year of gaming. To explain in one sentence just how crazy it was: "Year when MGS, Half-Life and Zelda OOT were released and this is just a surface". Almost all genres were affected by released games. Some very important that weren't mentioned: PRG: Baldur's Gate, Fallout 2. Racing: NFS3: Hot Pursuit, Grand Turismo 2. Shooters: Unreal, Quake 2. Quests: Grim Fandango Platformers: Banjo-Kazooie, Sonic Adventure Fighters: Soulcalibur, Tekken 3 Only 2004 and 2007 can somewhat rival on quality and importance of these games. We need 2007 video to complete trio as for me it was a bridge between that era (96-08) and current (09-now) and amount of games it released and importance was enormous.
Such a huge year, it was hard to decide which games to even cover! 😅 But I agree, 2007 was another great one forsure. That was the advent for my online gaming obsession 😂
Great selection of games to support why 1998 was the greatest year ever in gaming. I would also like to give a shout out to Banjo-Kazooie, Tomb Raider III, and F-Zero X; three truly wonderful games.
What a wonderful trip down memory lane. My personal favorites of '98 were certainly Ocarina of Time and Resident Evil 2. Thanks to ROM Hacks, Randomizers etc., OoT is still an amazing experience today and probably my all time favorite game. I especially love the darker vibes in OoT like Bottom of the Well or Shadow Temple. I can also relate to hand burns due to playing Mario Party. I also had these very frequently. Mario Party was a blast to play with friends though.

I was born in 1991 and 1998 is one of my favorite years of all time. Mostly because of the movies, games, and TV released in and around that year. I also really like professional wrestling, and that was an amazing year for that too. I feel like 2011 came close to being as awesome as 1998, but it fell just a bit short. What's another year you can think of? There were a few in the 2000s that were really cool too.
Ahh definitely the prime of wrestling in those late 90’s! And for me personally 2004 is my favorite year for gaming. But the entire decade of 98 to 08 was incredible without a doubt. Lots of innovation and some of the most influential games ever were released in those years!
