      It’s funny I grew up on Genesis and I didn’t even know Saturn existed. One day in 98 my mom said she talked to a Babbage’s employee who said ‘there’s a new Sega console coming!’ After that I spent time on AOL looking for any and all information, then Sega and Sonic announced the ‘new look’ and found a gaming VHS that had a first look at Dreamcast along with other games of that time…there was so much mystery back then

    So the reason why the Dreamcast version of Space Channel 5 seems harder and less responsive is because it's designed for CRT tvs. Their refresh rates are much slower so the game is programmed with a delay to make up for it. If you use a modern TV the lag will make you miss inputs. Parappa and other rhythm games of the time also have this issue.

    Being reminded of Ecco the Dolphin lore is always a trip. In a good way.
    Great video going through some of the dreamcast's strangeness. A lot of folks already said, but yeah this is my favorite era of gaming in general too. Just something about it feels like the peak of what the medium was meant to be imo. Not perfect but the focus on fun and vibes was at its best. And Sega were masters of it. I'm a big fan of Space Channel 5 and Jet Set Radio, I'm glad those series are seeing use again among many others by Sega.

    • @Vynsent
      @Vynsent  3 місяці тому +1

      I gotta agree! Sometimes I would wonder if it’s just nostalgia or if the games of the early 2000’s were actually doing something special in comparison to todays games. I’m starting to believe they were just doing things much better before, these games had a lot of soul to them and you could feel the love put behind them. You can still find that now but it doesn’t hit like those older games! Glad you enjoyed the video though, thanks a bunch for watching 😁

    Genesis was the first game console at 4 I was introduced to, Sonic 2 was the first game I saw and played. From that point until 02…loved Sega, I had a 64…but the Genesis and Dreamcast especially the Dreamcast was a moment. My mom waited in line for it to release on 9/99…I got picked up from school and holy shit Dreamcast and Sonic Adventure is at my house. I will never forget that …I would spend the following 2 years renting and asking for titles from Shenmue to Jet set, Power stone even Space Channel, weird RPGS like Evolution and Skies of Arcadia, even buying PSO with no internet so I could get the SA2 demo….my mom who know so little of games still tells me to this day “it’s a shame this thing ended you were so excited and I was so excited to get it for you”. They kind of gaming experience no longer exists. I still hope one day I can camp out with my son for a new console release, something that isn’t just ordered online with games digitally loaded…something you have to live and experience and don’t even know what that will be. I hope Sony Nintendo or MS for us old guys…next launch let’s us experience a mid night launch and a sane launch for those games one last time, one time I loved as a kid that I can vicariously live through with my own now. But…I’m off topic and ‘dream’casting

      That's a great question! And usually I try to make time on the weekends to write and record my scripts, as that's the most difficult part in my opinion. Then throughout the weeks I just take an hour or so a night and spend that time adding visuals to my voiceover. But if I have an especially busy week, that means I'll be spending my weekend time locked in my room editing for an entire day xD It's definitely exhausting, I struggle with it at times, but the end product is well worth the fight! Keep pushing my friend, we got this :)

    I’ve been a Sonic fan since I played SA2 Battle at a gym daycare around 4/5 and have always wanted to play these more bizarre games that also came out around that time. I’ve played Ecco for the Genesis and I’ve never once thought of it as relaxing 😂 I’d have to say SomeCallMeJohnny p much hits nail on the head. Ecco Jr seems fairly relaxing but the first game? V difficult and stressful and yet I try to see if I can inch my way just a few more meters than last time! It’s a game that kicks my ass but I still come back to it like Fear and Hunger or Manhunt.

    Jet Grind Radio / Jet Set Radio is still one of the best games on the Dreamcast, and really the only flaw I've ever seen with it is the controls being a bit janky and hard because of the lack of a second analog stick to control the camera. Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future is also a really solid title, if a super underrated one I rarely hear brought up, that offers lots of great content and a shockingly serious tone and story. Saddest part is that there was actually a sequel for Ecco in the works, titled 'Ecco II: Sentinel's of the Universe' which did have a "playable" demo leak online a few years back. It was canned the same time the Dreamcast was canned, and clearly didn't get far because majority of the assets in the demo are re-used from Defender's of the Future, though it's still a massive let down.
