Great video. Experienced some of these failures myself. You have to admit though: Gaming was a lot more experimental back in the day. It feels like we lost that experimentalism nowadays.
Disagree, big studios maybe don't experiment as much due to the increased risk involved but games development is easier and more acesssible than ever. Teams as small as one person in size release hits and we see a ton of experimental game design. For example, a recent indie horror hit that spawned a franchise began life as an atmospheric horror game based around operating security cameras. That experimental premise gave us five nights at Freddy's. Balatro is another recent hit based on a unique twist on poker.
I had an N-Gage back in the day. The Tomb Raider port was very impressive, even if you nearly broke your fingers playing it with a phone keypad. Great video, Vincent. Thank you.
Amazing video! To be honest I was a little bit sceptical with the video topic because I absolutely adore your love and appreciation for video games that always shines through your videos. In a society that mostly highlights criticism and negative opinions it's so refreshing to watch your content. The failures you portrayed in the videos are easy to dunk on but most people forget that it's a sign of how much the industry experimented and risked back then instead of playing it all safe and corporate. Some of these failures were necessary to create better products and some of these failures actually had potential but failed for various reasons. You really got that message through and it was very pleasant to see your positivity and humour balance the critical topic.
Wow, your videos have been improving massively. Huge props on the voicing, you're doing amazing work. The algo needs to pick this up because - holy crap - genuinely impressive!
Your videos always take me back to better days. Would you consider making a video about 2000 era flash games? Remember Newgrounds, Armor games and others? Thank you and take care.
John Romero bitch marketing campaign for Daikatana has got to be the worst advertising since McDonalds horrible marketing spiel for the ill fated Arch Deluxe. Both not only failed but drove customers away by the millions. Dick move.
Amazing video as always vyn! Theres something about a bad or little known game that is more attractive to me and ill play before a big AAA hollywood style video game...maybe im just a psychopath 🤣 id love to see you cover konamis weirdest ps1 games..ive been playing sooo much poy poy 🤣
I can relate honestly! 😂 It’s part of the reason I wanted to make this video, just so I could indulge in some strange-ness 😅 But I’ll definitely add that to my list of ideas! I’m sure Konami has plenty of weirdness for me to cover 😁
Hey, I had that Thrustmaster Freestyle board! I was trying to play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater on it, but don't remember ever having a good time with it. Thanks for the nostalgia trip.
The problem with gametap is that it basically had no games. It would have probably done better if it was advertised as a way to play retro games on your PC
The irony is that the Wii Fit Balance Board is actually a fantastic and responsive peripheral, the best kept secret on the platform. Its fast enough to use for ducking and dodging in Punch Out and fine control enough for snowboarding to feel like an arcade stand up machine. Granted, I don't set it up that often, but the thing works well when I do, and for actual gaming.
I worked in a Gamestop after highschool for a few years. I had a buddy at the time buy and return the N Gage all in one day. LOL. Though yes, the games looked very good, especially the online ones, there was an MMORPG that looked cool!
The mention of the GameTap awoke a sleeper agent of me years ago wanting to see the GameTap exclusive Sega Swirl 2 surface one day - as there were almost no details beyond being a sequel of a small puzzle game for Dreamcast/Windows, and later on Slopes Gaming Room got a hold of the game through a dev...but said dev requested it to not share it, so that became a dead end. Even someone on Reddit mentioned contacting both people but neither being able to provide the game. Which means that unless the game *mysteriously* reappears online, the only shot is that someone has it on their PC, which is extremely unlikely. And on something more related, the same could be said about the Dreamcast emulator GameTap used- since that was definitely something that would make many curious but again, no traces beyond Toy Commander reportedly being available. ... Putting the Swirl side quest aside, this has been a pretty neat video going into some of the weirder stuff that time has swallowed like a black hole. Reminds me of how I had a SuperPad GameCube controller...that soon became the "guest" controller due to the deteriorated buttons and quality 😂
The past is often romantasized with no regards to past flaws, sins, or failures while the modern day is vise versa, the ironic thing about this is that the 2000s was once considered modern.

Absolutely! Despite some of the weird offerings, I definitely appreciated the experimentation 😅
@@bartsquared1398I was going to say the same thing. Thanks to indie Devs and smaller studios, gaming is bigger and more diverse than it's ever been.
I had an N-Gage back in the day. The Tomb Raider port was very impressive, even if you nearly broke your fingers playing it with a phone keypad.
Great video, Vincent. Thank you.
That’s really cool! I had always wanted one, would still love to try one out some day 😁 Very glad you enjoyed tho, my friend. Thank you!
@@Vynsent Thank you, Vincent, for all the great content and the nice nostalgia hit. If you are going to get an N-Gage go for the QD version.
Thrust Master Flex! 😂 let’s go homie watching right now. Thank you for blessing us.
Amazing video!

Those Burger King racing games were actually pretty fun, i remember playing them a lot with my brother.
I really enjoyed the vehicle based games for a moment, but sneak king just had me lost 😅
Doritos crash course in the xbla was fun too
I loved Gametap back in the day
Was ahead of it’s time!
I loved Gametap as a kid! Saw an ad for it somewhere on tv back in the day and used it to play a lot of Psychonauts and Splinter Cell
Really was ahead of it’s time!

Lmao incredible! 😂
Brother you’re my favorite channel right now. These vids have an incredible ability to scratch my nostalgic itch.
I really appreciate that my friend! Thanks a bunch 😁

I really appreciate that! I’ve been working super hard on making them look and sound better 😁❤️ It means a lot to hear that!
19:19 yooo how tall is John?
Either he’s a short king, or that interviewer plays in the NBA lol
I remember playing some 80s-90s games on Gametap back in 2007.
Very cool service for the time!
@Vynsent you gotta admit Gametap was ahead of it's era.
Incredible video, amazing voice, and the sweetest boi I snow. ⛄️
My brother! Thank you 😁

Lmao definitely a huge fumble!
Playing Streets of Rage and Metal Slug games with my online friends makes me think of GameTap everyday bro!

I never get tired of that intro. "HeavynSent"
Glad you like it! 😎
BK’s Pocket Bike Racer was amazing for $7, haha! I didn’t regret that purchase at all!
I remember GameStop having a thousand copies of it back in the day 😅
Another great video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching 😁
Shout out to the different variation of me aka Ray wearing a super fly shirt at 3:46
Handsome devil 😎

I still need to give one a try! Luckily they’re cheap 😅
While Nintendo kicked the craze off in America is true, Atari had a massive market over here first. Great video though!
Very true! Gotta give Atari it’s flowers 😁

It was a great idea! Just seemed like a poor execution lol
Pretty impressive video and yeah reall I do like the Taco Phone XD
Gametap... wow you reminded me of that.
Little throwback for ya 😎

Maaan, that really is quite a mystery. Really peaks my interest! 😅 And thanks a bunch for watching! I’m very glad that you enjoyed 😁
As a 13/14 year old at the time i really wanted an n-gage.
So did I! I definitely would’ve ended up selling it to GameStop for 3 quarters at some point tho 😂
I tried to get into gametap back in the day but I didn't have a credit card and my dad would not let me use his .
how can you forget the data design interactive library?! They're as bad or worse than almost anything on the list
excuse me SEAK KING was peak gaming
maybe gametap was taken down because of copyright? jeez.
A peon such as I could never understand it’s glory 😂😂
Babe wake up there’s a new HeavynSent video
My fave comment 😂❤️
what is the game being played at 3:28?
Crisisbeat!
@@Vynsent Thanks big dog! fucking love your content btw!
Its crazy that Gametap was basically Xbox Game Pass but of the 2000's.
Way ahead of its time!
