Since StarSector is one of my all-time favourite Spacegame I keep searching for other games that feels like StarSector and this is one of those, not at level of complexity as StarSector but this one is also fun to play.

I like how the UI is set up. The graphics are pretty enough to be pleasing to the eye. But the sheer volume of stuff to do is mind blowing.
I absolutely love this game! Have 200 hours in this game and everything about it is awesome! From leveling your crew to getting ships and decking them out! 10/10 recommend

I've been chasing that high from the old Escape Velocity games for literal decades now, its nice to see some newer games try their take on the formula.
There's a spiritual successor open source game called Endless Sky you might want to check out.

Same here. Every Escape Velocity clone I've tried botches either the flight and combat, the art direction, the ship upgrades, or something else. Nothing ever surpasses Escape Velocity. Nobody wants to give us capturable ships and fighter bays. Don't know about this game yet tho.
one of my all time fav! I put so many hours into this one even before the "Official release" and it only gets better and better! The crafting, the questing, so many options and different ways to play! If this is even remotely in your wheel house you MUST play this!

I"ve been on a bit of a space kick lately, so I am glad you covered this. This looks really promising! Something I've noticed is that in most space games, the galaxy or system or whatever is actually really small! It is bizarre, and the way you scrolled all the way out on the galaxy map in this video shows this is a game that shows how mind-bendingly massive the galaxy truly is!
There are games with billions of star systems. That's realistic but... why? What it does for a game? I would take 100 manually created and interesting systems instead of a few billions procedural generated mostly empty systems any day xD
You should check out "starsector", its a more complex version of this game with a massive modding scene
Elite Dangerous is a 1 to 1 scale of the entire milky way galaxy. Its not bad if exploration and long travel times is your thing.
This game has an infinite option for the star map. It will just keep adding new systems in whatever direction you go. But it is labelled as "unstable". The reason is that the dev does not put in any checks for running out of memory to handle an infinitely growing map. The good news is that I've only ever played on the infinite setting and I've never run into any instability. You would have to play a single save for a very long time to run into trouble.

IDK if anyone ever played EV Nova but I've been chasing the feeling and quality of that game for 20 years.
That was an amazing game
I started this game after your last review. A couple of things, your fleet will buy their own ammo once you equip the weapons. Also you can warp in or launch all your fleet at one time by clicking on the top undock button.
A week ago, one night after starting, I got the Hephaestus and been using it since then. It's great as a lonewolf.
Theres been no Main Quest after Saving the guy Sam Holo... It's Kinda a lonely game since you can't play with your friend in it...
The man behind this game is taking very good care of this game and its players.

Your channel seems great! Lots of great information and honest takes on a lot of games I've considered checking out.
Game is a lot of fun, but been taking a break from it since the station building DLC is the next update coming out I think, so waiting till then before jumping back in.
Nice - was just playing this game again before the video dropped.
The latest update also now significantly improves interactions with the Tinheads; now if you're friendly with them you can do missions to give them all that junk you find floating in space (which was previously just worthless vendor loot) and they'll in turn will give you ship schematics. So far most of them have just been shuttles and yachts, but they also were a fairly low-level Tinhead station I found early in my new game.
I have so many hours into this game. There's just no other games out there that allow you to just fly a nice big ship and either fight or mine rocks. I still wish someone would remake Battlecruiser Millenium into a functional 3d game. Either that or remake this into a full 3d game. Hell, even just a single player version of Eve would be fantastic lol.

There is sort of a singleplayer Eve, I have it in my Steam lib. It MIGHT be named "Star Nexus" or something similiar. The graphic isnt on the same level last I checked but the mechanics are basically the same.
You might want to look into the "X" series: the latest is X4. It's single-player, 3D, and allows you to roam freely in ships of all sizes. You can accumulate and command a fleet, or just fly your own ship. You can fight, mine, trade, build stations and manufacture stuff.

This seems to be exactly what I wanted SPAZ2 to be. I played the first one for hundreds of hours but felt really uninterested in #2. I think this will scratch that itch. Thanks for the reminder that this exists!

Try StarSector, I mean it, really incredible, 15 bucks and constant updates. Spaz 1 is one of my all time favorites and its similar in all the right ways. Edit: SPaz 2 wasnt even remotely the same game, I hated it.
@@Dermetsu I guess all the bad experiences with early access on steam have me jaded, if you csre abput your game at all, its enough for me. Can name fsr to many games where yearly updates would be a blessing. From my own playing Stsrsector main plot is almost finished, amd the game is in a highly playable and polished state, just put about 60 plus hour in it last 2 months. Any game where you can have a 30 ship fleet, 8 planets as colonies for your empire, and make so much cash by endgame that you get positive money flow, is done enough for me to enjoy. Lets say, constant updates compared to most games. Some great mods also.

This game truly is Awe inspiring as a space game. I’ve been playing Star Valor for a while from your earlier video, recommendation and love this game. I’ve collected a dozen ships or more with a giant carrier to keep my fighters together. My only issue is, I really hate losing anybody in my fleet. Kind of like family. Worked hard to acquire them all and fit them all out, including the best crews. Turning them all into a mining fleet is a brilliants idea, and keep the heavy hitters for protection.

@@Azure9577 Star Sector is a huge game, and pretty cool. Star Sector has a lot of moving parts. It’s just a different type of game experience. Some people love it, some people are overwhelmed by the mechanics, and how game play moves in Star Sector; especially combat.
That game looks so awesome it's bypassed the wishlist and been added straight to the library. Also helped that it was on a hefty discount on Steam :)

There are so much stuff in this that also wasn't mentioned or touched upon in this video because it's so open and huge done well: achievements becomes perks, you can choose which perks from the achievements you earned to apply to your new campaign, each ship you buy and equip will be added you the creation of your new campaign, you can choose to become a pirate, you can start out as a pirate if you go for that achievement to be friendly with the pirates by raiding civilian and other factions, you can become a trader, miner, pirate, alien from the very start if you have the perks (gained from being friendly with those factions individually), you can, with certain ships, automate your attacks completely, making you a mobile fortress of destruction without even having to aim yourself, you can choose instantaneously if you want to drive your ship with mouse and keyboard or just WASD (I use M&K when in combat and WASD when just exploring), you can become a really powerful explorer, AND all achievements that you regain in your new campaign adds bonuses and the same perks that those achievements gains you.
The only thing I wish was more adaptable would be to respec, because sometimes you just wanna start over with your talent tree and try something new: instead of limited respecs, make it cost or just make it free to respec in general.
Found it thanks to you and sunk so many hours in it so far. I will most likely sink hundreds more. Honestly, this game puts many AAA games to shame considering how much working content it has made by 1 person for low price point.

Laious (the dev) has confirmed months ago, that there is still a big feature missing he is working on and a dozen or so new ships to implement. Also, much more story is to come. in short: there will be at least another year of regular (free!) updates to this really awesome game.

Ironic you're revisiting this. I decided to revisit it to the other day, and unlocked your copilot on this run. I'm even using it. Game has little storyline and few goals, but a lot of replayability thanks to the starting perk unlocks.

This one looks very much like the open-source Endless Sky, but much polished and featured...
That marks the second good space game starting with Star and ending with "or".
in the military mark # tells you which version it is. Mk1 is the first version and oftentimes doesn't bother with the Mk#. so a Mk4 is the 4th full version. Mk1A1 is the first alternate configuration of the first version, so a Mk1A1 would be different than Mk1 but essentially the same core model.
Quick tips, use as many shields as you can to not get 2 shot-ed, but you should focus on the shield chargers, that is where your battle Resilience is, also i am a personal fan of the Vulcan weapons that ignore shields, but need ammo, and also try using blue tier ships, i love the Reaper from the mining faction, because it has 4x barrels, and ammo replicator, so you don't need to fuss about ammo, and also being an interceptor means you have +25% speed and +50* critical damage while having flux, and you can use a warp diverter to make free flux for that porpuse. (Also, better craft your own weapons, and for secondary, use a 1 space overload and damage boost mining laser 2× while adding PD (Point Defense). it makes double duty of protecting against deones and missiles, and you can also do mining, because you have limited weapon space on the Reaper.

I played a game called Astroflux a while back. This is like that game but more fleet combat and political intrigue by fighting for territories
The only thing this game is missing, is more unique missions. I've played 'through' the game 4 times now, in all difficulty options except permadeath. Almost 160 hours; by far my most played 2D space game, and I've played a lot of them.
Hope it gets a sequel at some point.

I picked this game up a few months ago and liked the idea but I got stuck super early on. The tutorial had me pick who I wanted to side with, but to get too the miners I had to get through 3 sectors with high level pirates camping outside the gates. So I couldn't make it 3 seconds in the next sector over. Kind of soured my experience... Maybe I'll try it again though.
Love this game, the only one that has successfully scratched that itch for me for Star Control and SPAZ series.

Maybe I should play Star Valor again. Stopped when fleet limit stopped my idea for one more dreadnought.
I'm watching this through and honestly, to me, this game is exactly like Starsector in every regard which is a shame considering the work put into it. Starsector technically has less ship customizability than this but every ship you play is so different and so possible to get all of them that it feels the same. You can do individualized ship upgrades as well. You can still fight fleet combat, put officers in charge of your ships, trade, mine (with Nexerlin or Industry overhaul iirc), level up your captain, get better ships, colonize worlds, ally with factions, lead a faction (Nexerlin again), salvage ships, explore the sector, have beautiful combats, collect guns/resources to make things, and etc.
The things that make Starsector from this is the prettier graphics, at least to me, and the definitely far more niche and unique controls than this game. I see Splatter flying around and notice him and even large mining ships turning on a dime. There's not much nuance to flight combat or inertia it feels. All the guns will hit or very narrowly miss even if they are on the other side of the ship. In Star Sector, the way your guns are placed on your ship do matter and a small frigate could beat out a destroyer or cruiser in combat.
Can any Star Valor players tell me what makes this game more than just a more recent version of Starsector? It seems like a cool game just not anything new to the scene despite the massive work on it which makes me kinda ashamed to ask this question.

this reminds me of escape velocity the primordial version of these space RPGs, amazing game i actually still have even though ambrosia is defunct. Endless sky is similar but it was eh shallow? i wonder if this game can scratch that itch waiting forever since Nova.
