Hover feature is only limited to the lates ipad pro (M2 processor), nice new feature though. If only they can bring that feature to the earlier ipad pro's it would be nice. But i can live without it, i guess. What I like on this new update is the improvement of selection tool. Keep it up kabayan! Tagay! 🍻
the hovering is just nice, but it really starts making sense if you hook up your iPad on another screen. your neck is facing forward and you can use your iPad while still getting feedback on your cursor position, just like a Wacom. for me this extra UI-feedback is very welcome for my neck and back. when using my device in the normal mobile mode the hovering is not really necessary because i can see were i am pointing.
I just bought an iPad Pro M2 11" and the hovering feature is really useful when painting textures at the size that you want. In this way you see the size and can change it seeing the actual size in realtime before painting. This save you a lot of undo/tries before you are happy with the result, and this saves you time at long term in a drawing.
If there’s anything i learned from seeing all of these reviews, its that if you have an M1 ipad then you shouldnt get the new M2 one. the difference is too slim.
Thanks so much for the review, I really didn't want to spend so much money on a new iPad for these features, especially since I only got my M1 last year. Thanks for sharing!!
I received my iPad Pro 12.9 inch Sunday and I must say the hover future has been awesome to work with as an artist. Definitely a game changer and has made my workflow so much easier just working on this particular iPad coming from the 1st gen iPad Pro has been a breath of fresh air omg. Best investment to my business and art career.
Would you say that the pinch gesture for brush size is more precise than the slider on the side? I tend to always get 1 or 2% away from the number i actually want with the slider
Totally. I've been using it for a few days now and I still keep defaulting to the sliders. I should just turn the sliders off to force myself to see if the feature just takes time to get used to. 😅
When using the pinch to adjust brush size, you don’t need to have your fingers near the pencil’s cursor. You can pinch from anywhere on the canvas so you don’t have to pinch while blocking your view or feeling awkward. This way you get a bit more precision when going up/down 1% intervals because of the 2 finger pinch control, while at the same time keeping your offhand out of your line of sight.
I will try the full feature of hover when I upgrade my 12.9 M1with a 2023 model. Right now doesn't really seem that awesome if you just got your M1. I personally thought there would be a lot more in the 3d portion of Procreate with 5.3 but I haven't seen anyone cover it yet. For me this update was a let down especially since it was delayed for so long. Oh well, lets wait and see what they do with the 2023 iPad releases since there will be major redesigns at that point.
Yeah I tried it with Nomad Sculpt and though I didn't get it on camera, it had some weird interactions. I think it'll be a full year til all the apps start taking full advantage of hover, and by then we'll be on the verge of another iPad Pro refresh. So it's good to wait on this one.
Worth for m2 if not owner of iPad. And for other 16.2 features. - Note: older procreate files can be used in 5:3. But 5.2 or earlier can't read 5.3 procreate files.
Agreed, M2 is absolutely worth it if you don't own an M1! Oh and thanks for the note on the file version change, I suspect it has to do with the file compression optimization they did. 😁
I have a problem my Procreate 5.3 when I get 2 layers together all layers turn active, is annoying specially when you have many layers, anyone knows hoe to fix it.?
Not sure I understand your problem, but try checking Settings > Prefs > Gesture Controls > Layer Select and see if you have one of those settings accidentally toggled (I toggle them all off because I find them confusing.)
Just go the App Store and search "Procreate". It should have an update button there (if not then it probably already auto-updated.) You can check which version you have by tapping "Procreate" on the upper right of the app's main gallery. 😁
I haven't done a formal test yet but I do think it'll be a slight improvement. That said, I was ridiculously content with the layers and performance of the M1 iPad Pro so I wasn't really hungry for a boost in this area. Will do a full assessment in a future video!

@@Comicbooker I suspect that with the 16.2 update this will become even beter with the improved full screen support.

Your phone New York, like myself we use Procreate. That’s what’s up.
How are you videotaping yourself? I’m assuming with another camera. But that’s really cool how you record your self painting and you record your face
It don’t work for me 😢 I activated the settings and it don’t work

Hey I’ve watched so many 5.3 review videos on youtube and you’re the most helpful. Cheers mate!
Your arts is so inspiring. I mean everytime I see it, it motivate me to achieve that goal. Thansk ;)
You're welcome! I hope you have as much fun working on your goals as I do! 😁

Glad I could help! I'm in the same boat as you and I'm a actually relieved I can wait a little longer to upgrade. 😁
Great review
Thank you! 😀

It's great to see you post more videos! Good to have you back
More to come! I'm trying to do more but sometimes comics just take over the video schedule haha. 😅

Hi! Do you think m2 chip gonna make a difference in performance and handle more layers in feature?

@@Comicbooker Thank you❤
As far I know, the maximum layers depends on RAM amount.
@@3dart_es409 yes but m2 has more memory bandwidth and i tought maybe it affects how chip use the full potential of the ram
